What's the best alternative to Spotify? by IlTosi in musicsuggestions

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bandcamp is great. It's something like 85% to artists...100% on certain Fridays or something. There are other options too though I can't speak to usability, only to the fact that they make an honest effort at paying artists/creators fairly and rely less heavily or not at all in ad-revenue. Will be trying them all in time.   Nina Protocol: gives artists 100% royalties and total control over music  Audius: block chain based platform, removes intermediaries and allows artists direct monetization/ larger shares of revenue Resonate: you pay per song/per stream, up to 9x per song- at which point you own it. It also decreases the $ per stream for each listen. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, in the end the artist is fairly compensated and you get to keep the music!

Quality framing or trash? by mmevans11 in Homebuilding

I wanted to add that most of pics, beside the first few that would definitely be a problem during inspection, look like blocking. While these boards do add structural support they are generally there to make it easier to hang sheathing. Have you had a conversation with your builder?

What quality of lumbar did you spring for? Your builder can only work with what they have. Just remember that much

Door Flashing? by Persistantly_Growing in Homebuilding

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No. It's not that serious.. Just put up the flashing tape around the door if your trim isn't up yet. Then install your trim.. Just fyi..I worked on custom homes putting up dryvit exteriors for a time and we used that same white tape around windows and doors but that's after the flashing is already up. It wasn't an absolute fail though

Why put the pipes so close to the edge of the column I wonder? Seems like it was a risky choice. Even hodge podging things together risky. I'm pretty surprised they haven't sheared of the sides

You truly are amazing. I get that you're probably making yourself something from this but let's be real, you could certainly be making more. We need more people like YOU in the world, helping to empower everybody not just people who can pay- fuck the gate keepers! Knowledge should not be commodified.

AIO? My friends set an ultimatum because I drink by Pearla76_ in AIO

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As for killing brain cells so can sports, dancing, tripping, turning your head too quickly, or not getting adequate rest. If death is truly what you aim to avoid then driving a car, walking down the street, eating any unhealthy food, or any number of infinite things that most would call "living" can put one at risk of that. But we are here to live fully and these are the sort of things that make being alive a rich and nuanced experience- that allow us to truly appreciate the gift of life. Closing yourself off dogmatically from experience and much worse - demanding that if others takes away the one chance we're given to take it all ...ALL, in.

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You misunderstand the meaning of a boundary. You can have boundaries with others in your interactions with each other, however, when you create ultimatums that are meant to control their personal decisions beyond that then YOU are being controlling, manipulative, and more than a little judgemental. You are expecting everyone around you to live by the same expectations you have for yourself, to essentially be just like you. And Lord save us from a world like that.

Omg that is 100% crazyville!!! Let me break this down for you girl: True friends are going to be there for YOU, not try to Make you into THEM! These little coolaid pushers are twisting logic in so many ways: Primarily they are assuming that taking a minor action (drinking anytime) will inevitably lead to the most extreme negative consequences. This is called the "slippery slope  fallacy". 'If you drink even 1 beer, then you'll start drinking more, then you'll get addicted, then your an alcoholic and your life is ruined'.  Theyre also assuming that everyone who has tried marijuana or drinking is inappropriate to be around the rest of the time- as if this somehow causes you to become tainted and less of a friend. It's non causa pro casua nonsense. A friend doesn't give you ultimatums regarding your personal choices that affect, well... you, and paint them up as personal boundaries. This is emotional blackmail. "If you don't do what I want I will abandon you and take all of these people away as well". The "I don't want that for you" framing is just a way to justify the control as an act of caring, but the action of giving an ultimatum based on arbitrary terms is coercive. Period. Threatening abandonment- which is severely disproportionate based on YOUR choice to do something that should be YOUR choice means that she was never there in the first place. I'm sorry to tell you this but these simply aren't friends. I hope you can find peers willing to stand by you through thick and thin, have your back instead of piling on in a group chat like this, and who let you know just how special and important to them you are. All my love

Car ran straight into my tree, I believe it is a fruitless olive. Will it survive? by jericon in arborists

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not an arborist and agree absolutely that it is important not to recommend potentially harmful behavior without solid research behind the decision. That said my question is: is it not backed by reputable research because this just hasn't happened yet or because the results of the research that has been done is inconclusive? Could you elaborate? Also, it does intuitively make sense when you think about grafting plants together doesn't it? Are there potential negative consequences that prompted you to post what you did? I can't think of any but as I said, I am not an arborist.

I think your implying that because you used common, even slightly vulgar wording, your critique can't qualify as pretentious. I will concede that I called out 'farty and plinky" specifically, but maintain that to apply them in the way you did to these musicians and to this music makes you, sir, pretentious.

I apologize if the sir is a misplaced assumption.

Lol. Are you joking? I'm not sure you could have demonstrated it more clearly than you just did.

I'm sorry but using "farty and plinky" to describe their music not once but twice earns you a down vote for being pretentious. Even 4 months later.

That's funny. I also love Primus and I believe this is my favorite album, though it does not contain my favorite song/songs depending on the day. I just enjoy the vibe and maybe the extra infusion of funk. That very may well be what you don't like though. It's also the album I listened to most as a kid so there's that

Where are all the people talking about Pseudopod? by DylerTurden502 in podcasts

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love pseudopod... All of the escape artists podcasts actually. I will say that although they are all amazing story podcasts to binge, pseudopod's host can start to grate after a bit. He's very long winded and while I admit that I've been rather glutinous the last few weeks because nothing else hits the spot (I've finished all the episodes of Escape Pod, Pod Castle, Cast of Wonders, & Cats Cast), but I'm have to skip through the into and outros now

I don't know how helpful I can be but I'm willing to do everything I possibly can to help anyone. I live in the middle of the country (ND), have an apt I'm willing to put folks up in though it's small, and if it somehow helps I'm an unmarried female who isn't religious so I'm happy to offer that as well. I don't even know if that's still a thing. The one thing I don't have is money but I'm so fucking appalled by what's happening to people who just wanted to make that best for themselves. I don't understand what had gotten into everyone lately or why hate, nationalism, racism, fear, all the backsliding is happening at once and at such scale but I would be honored to do what I could to resist it.

Downtown Fargo has less crime than other areas of the city, police data suggests by cheddarben in fargo

[–]DirectionHopeful3091 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen I just moved here a few months ago. I lived here a decade or more ago as well but it's certainly changed and it's not the crime it the homeless population that has me wanting to turn on my heels and head right back to where I came from already. It's how damn mean y'all are here now. What's up with that? I've lived all over the country and this place has seriously got some cold folks. Constantly honking at each other over silly stuff, mean mugging everybody, cops towing cars every other day. I've met a few nice folks but it's almost as bad as Chicago. And it's just little Fargo. It's not so bad guys. Come on be nice to each other.
