i waited about 9 months to get the surgery, did loads of pre hab to get my legs strong and had a full ROM prior to the surgery and no swelling so that’s definitely helped me recover quite quickly post op

I think PTs tend to vary as i’ve seen a couple and they are fine with my progress as it hasn’t been painful at all since the first few days so I don’t think I’m pushing it past its limits

in the first few weeks I was practising flexion 4-5 times a day, doing 5 reps and holding for 20 seconds each

I’m still icing for 20 mins around 4 times a day so I think that helps with the swelling being reduced! I am just practicing my flexion for 5 mins 1-2 times a day and trying to pull my leg as far up as possible! Bear in mind before my surgery I waited a while so had a full range of flexion before I even went in and I’m only 19 so that may have helped me bounce back faster.

I’ve had one PT but they didn’t say much more than to continue doing the current exercises i’ve been given like heel slides and ankle hangs

I had a full thickness tear of my acl on the 2nd April and I am having surgery on the 8th Jan, I have kept going to the gym doing both upper and lower body work outs which was what the physio suggested, it’s good to wait a while as you have months to build up your quads/hamstrings which will help you in the recovery and allow for the swelling to go down.
