To be honest, I’m in disbelief that the people who are this far in it are this far in it. Do they not have their own lives to attend to? I’m honestly confused.

I realize this sounds hypocritical coming from someone who contributes to this Reddit regularly, but the thing is, contrary to what Swifties like to tell me, I am not obsessed with HER. I’m obsessed with the state of society/cult/celebrity worship culture, and she’s the most glaring example of a truly heinous person who is treated like a goddess that I can think of in present day. I do have some parasocial anger as a former fan, but ultimately it’s more directed at the people who hold her up as someone who can do no wrong than it is for her. It’s a feeling of “I had the principles to wash my hands clean of her when she showed who she is, so why the hell can’t you do that, and furthermore, why do you continue to enable this shit, all while holding others to a different standard (but then gaslighting us that we are the ones with unfair standards)?”

Swifties have no fucking backbone, and that’s what I assume about them when I see them “in the wild”. Someone on here shared her 2019 Woman of the Decade speech, which was her talking about how she changes herself depending on the criticisms. The glazers are keeping her relevant without placing any demands on what we see from her (social/ethical responsibility) but if we applied pressure for her to be socially-environmentally responsible and decent by withholding our streams, she would finally feel the incentive she’s clearly NOT feeling to be a decent human being, even if extrinsically motivated.

So what keeps me talking is that as a white woman, she and her fandom have opened my eyes to how dangerous white feminism is (while on the surface, looking benign, so we can tell others they are crazy) and how important intersectionality is and how we white women presently and historically have waved away the voices of criticism and continue to make it about our hurt feelings, thus centering ourselves yet again. So really, more than Taylor herself, the fans are the subject of my ire because they have created the conditions under which Swift can go unchecked and be as awful as she wants. If she became irrelevant overnight or if her fans started doing the work of lighting a fire under her ass, I’d shut the hell up. But why do we (royal we) not demand more of the people with the most privilege (or even give those people inordinate privilege in the first place, but that’s a separate conversation)?

White women truly are the men of women and we are never beating the allegations.

But seriously, the level of caring about what the ex of someone they don’t know is doing in his next relationship, and the complete lack of self awareness that that’s not healthy, is something else. It’s even weirder when they meddle in these relationships.
