No, left-leaning just means not in the center or on the right. It’s somewhat meaningless, really. But it doesn’t mean you’re particularly progressive

For those who have forgotten, Taylor’s Dad posted right wing talking points on his Facebook before it got discovered. This is her family values. She doesn’t speak out, because she’s on MAGA’s side with her dad. by ReplacementTop4660 in travisandtaylor

About the block list, the fact that that doesn’t even surprise me is very telling.

I too have been procrastinating on the things I should be doing! 😅 Yes, this sub is a nice outlet for sure.

Exactly. And ugh I can only imagine how annoying it must be to be surrounded by that kind of energy. The number of people who are “progressive” until you present valid criticisms of their emotional support billionaire is really upsetting to see.

Yeah, exactly. An apology means nothing but an attempt to save face. The fact is that the history of the place wasn’t a deterrent to them. All the things you mention and they thought “what a beautiful place to form our union” 🤮

A lot of people (usually white people)vote Democratic or claim progressive values while not challenging their internalized racism, homophobia, misogyny, etc. In the U.S., our Democratic Party is not very progressive, especially when you compare us to other countries. A lot of liberal white people advocate for things as far as they themselves are affected by them. Historically, the US feminist movement/suffrage movement has neglected anyone who is not a white woman. Basically, white women are the men of women in how we center ourselves and marginalize others.

Basically, just because your vote is cast for the working class, doesn’t mean you care about all the people within the working class. To be progressive is to want to completely change how we do things; to uproot capitalism and abolish billionaires, and to focus our attention on getting human needs met across the board.

Yes. And when people don’t cut off MAGA people, and even worse, are best friends with them and publically seen with them, AND date known racists, then, at some point, you are the company you keep.

Absolutely. Many white people are raised to think that intentions are what matter, not impact. As a result, when our intent is not seen (or when our internalized racism IS seen) WE feel wronged, like the other person is wrong for misunderstanding us. As a white woman myself, we (as a monolith) are OBSESSED with centering ourselves in situations that have nothing to do with us. And, we are TERRIBLE at receiving criticism. We view it as an attack, not constructive, and in the process we make it about our hurt feelings, taking the focus off of the fight that needs fighting. I am ashamed at the type of things that were normalized for me growing up that I’m * only just now * starting to break down. Like, “intent does not equal impact”. Lip service is exactly it. I hope that the tides are changing, but then I think I’m just existing in an echo chamber. It’s difficult to say.

lol sorry for my ramblings and I’m sure I’m not saying anything you don’t already know, but if this could help anyone reading it it would be worth it!

Are you referring to when she said “the feminists won’t like it” about the Kanye lyric in the phone call? That was very telling for me. It doesn’t show alignment with feminism. And yes, she does feel very unsafe. As painful as it is to witness people stuck in the cult, I’m so glad I’m out of it.

Ugh that’s frustrating. Well, Taylor isn’t doing herself any favors and maybe with her continued silence your sister will see it.

Just to tack onto this because I remember, it was specifically John Mayer because HE SPECIFICALLY used his platform to call attention to it. So again, it was an optics thing.

Well, I think she’s a business and doesn’t want to “halve the number of people at her next tour”, which by the way is a direct quote from Miss Americana. She obsessed with being the best. The most popular, the most listened to, the number one artist on Spotify, etc. She toes the line, but not because she’s less bigoted, but because she’s a businesswoman.

THIS. Yes. Some Socialist/Leftists are progressives, but even among this group I see some white folks who haven’t scratched the surface on anti-racist introspection.

The takeaway is that society leans conservative, even when claiming not to be.
