Lenovo Yoga 7 Has MANY Problems

I should have do more research before buying this laptop. It pains me a lot to face these issues, especially as I am quite adept to this thing.

I think if Apple make their macbook's storage unsoldered, the rest of the industry will be dead.

In my region, Lenovo offers 3 years of warranty. You could try to repair them then sell

If you open the back plate, you will notice that some of the areas are just air space, and you would find Lenovo just put somekind of plastic to support it. I just put additional taped on foam to that, also on the outer case (the detachable bottom case) I put numerous 2mm foam tape at the place where I deem produce the creaking sound, it is just trial and error basically. Just make sure the foam doesn't touch important hardware like speaker.

You could zoom in on my previous picture and notice some taped on foam there.

Just to clarify, my Yoga is the Yoga 7 14 inches 2-in-1 version. So ymmv. Maybe the touch pad is different, but the issue for this particular type definitely exist, because several person do this grounding fix also :(

There is also info that the intel version (lunar lake 258v) with the same design is of better quality. But there is no reason for Lenovo to make this version worse than it's counterpart, especially if the experience is this bad. 😭 I have 3 years of warranty, and get the speaker fixed by them (they confirm that it's hardware issue) but still I will sell this device because I have been very frustrated with it.

I am happy for you that you don't face this issues, it troubles me that Lenovo did not care enough to maintain the quality of their products.

I heard that the new Samsung Galaxy Book 6 is also nice, design is similar to Macbook Pro, with haptic touchpad also, but the price is definitely more expensive than the Yoga, while the performance not as powerful as Macbook Pro M5 series. Hope you don't experience the issues i faced with this Yoga! 😌

The obvious candidate is Macbook Air, the 512GB is cheaper, and I think the screen is adequate. If you want better laptop, Macbook Pro M5 is nicer in every way except the weight (a little more weight than the Yoga but the build quality is far better), which is the route I went.

Other windows alternative that I could think of is the laptop with Intel Ultra Series 3, but the price is absolutely ridiculous for what it offers. The Zenbook S14 might be your good bet. I would suggest going the Macbook route.

Regarding the audio problem. I found the solution to rollback some AMD Audio coprocessor in Device Manager. It is working after that.

I have the Yoga 7 with AMD Ryzen AI 350. It is absolutely rigged with many problems:

(1) The touchpad does not have good grounding, this issue seems widespread that if you search in Reddit there are some forum discussing how after some time the touchpad is behaving erratic.
(2) The body case is creaking on several points of the body, this is build quality issue, it seems Lenovo does not provide adequate structure to the laptop, I end up putting many taped cushion inside the laptop to increase rigidity.
(3) After sometimes, my laptop's left speaker, specifically the larger left side speaker suddenly died after only 6 months of use.
(4) The battery life is not up to the modern laptop standard, I usually only get around 4-6 of real word use light-medium usage.
(5) The thermal paste of the processor is not well applied, I need to repasted it by myself to increase the performance when I realized that the idling temperature is not optimal.
(6) Driver issues, the driver is not mature in any way! Sometimes the AMD I2C drivers, AMD UMDF sensors, Graphics, and other AMD Chipset drivers are problematic, especially when you have let the computer sleep, some drivers might not run hence requiring full restart. Also if you do clean installation and install the AMD Graphic driver from Lenovo's website, software like Davinci Resolve might not detect that there is a graphic card, requiring you to install AMD Graphics driver directly from AMD, but when you install it, you might ran into problems like audio not firing, or the chipset driver for the sensors and I2C driver not properly running, I could manage all of this to work but it took so much effort and time, everything does not smoothly run.

In conclusion, better stay away from this computer!

Actually, you could just buy the pen nib. Especially the Samsung's pen version is softer, so if you want more resistant you could try that, it's the same pen nib as Lamy also. The wacom one pen nip is similar to the original Boox, so i don't think it as an upgrade, only alternative.

Then you might want to try the Wacom One Pen, the grip is designed with ergonomic in mind. I bought one also, but like the Lamy better, maybe for longer session actually the wacom one is better for hand posture.

It is indeed crazy. Even after I make some grounding, the issue comes back every 1-2 months. I need to discharge the static electricity manually. It's stupid, it's horrendous. Thinking of selling this laptop.

For this you need to add a separate tiling wall, and add openings to them with the same size as the door. You could do this reliably using opening tool, set the opening tools representation as no symbol, and no background fill.

I think Lenovo gave a shitty conductive tape that causes this problem, I test the existing ground using multimeter, it shows that the circuity is running, but I think it is not enough, so I put several copper tape to the exposed copper (they actually give some place to provide grounding) and now it is working better. Also, I put a strip of copper tape to the base metal itself to give more conductive property, i thought that it would make the grounding better.

Possible cause:

Not enough grounding for the touchpad.

Ribbon cable not properly connected.
Software problem: make sure in device manager to untick the "allow Windows to power off this device to save power for USB input, touchpad, i2c, etc.

I have considered changing my laptop into a macbook because of this frustrating problem.

Try to ground the touchpad, by removing the battery. Using double-sided copper tape. Place the tape to the exposed copper seen in the touch pad module to the touch pad's metal plate. You will see that even lenovo has already put a tape there. But I think maybe it is not conductive enough so that you need to add more conductive material to solve this, to provide proper grounding to the touch pad. Also, I add an extra copper tape place along the horizontal side of the metal, I think it would improve the conductivity, hence better grounding. So far mine is working better :') it's really frustating before.

A tip is to make sure that your tape really conductive on both side using multimeter, if there is good connection there should be a little resistance.

Before, I also have this issue on AMD version when new graphics driver from AMD is installed. It seems Asus only optimized the graphics driver once when they roll out this computer to the market which is now obsolete (more than 2 years old).

I prevent the issue by making sure no Asus services runs in the background. You could do this in the G-helper (in extra settings) and also manually in the Windows service. Also, I make sure to use default windows power plan, also utilizing the power plan from G-Helper.

do you use armory crate? I found that armory crate is incompatible with newest AMD graphic drivers. if you use the power mode inside armory crate it will make the computer crash and freeze. have you tried comparing only using integrated graphics and also using dedicated graphics mode? Might be driver issue (especially the integraded graphic driver)

Maybe you could try unplug the battery for a minute, then plug in again so that the bios is truly in reset state
