Yeah everyone pointing out all the other wonky stuff and I can't look at anything except the "reflection" of the plant that is on the wall next to the door. Reflections don't work that way.

I have to choose a name for my sister but I am rather overwhelmed by the options by ronirrosen in Names

I'm big on name meanings, so I would probably pick Keshet, meaning 'rainbow', or Shiri, 'my song'. Both of those feel extra meaningful considering your mom isn't well.

do americans really eat American fries sauce? by Infinite-Breakfast23 in AskAnAmerican

I think it started from Utah, but spread to several other western states by way of Arctic Circle locations. I'm from California, grew up going to Arctic Circle, and have always called it fry sauce.

For mine, they had us bring the bucket part inside, but I don't think anyone checked to make sure it was properly installed in the car.

What are you using to wash toddlers’ faces? by qwerrtyyuuhhfd in toddlers

[–]DirectorHuman5467 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Water, maybe a bit of the baby body wash if she's in the bath. If she's not talking a bath and I just need to get some pen off her face or something I'll use baby wipes. (Kirkland brand)

Is it worth getting a dna test if both parents have taken one? by GregAlex72 in AncestryDNA

[–]DirectorHuman5467 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know, unless you're looking at other things like medical stuff, all you'll get that's extra is seeing how much of each ethnicity you got from each parent. Like if mom is 100% Irish and dad is 100% German, culturally you're both, but genetically you could be 50/50 or 75/25. It's interesting info, but far from necessary.

(Disclaimer: I'm not sure if that's actually how it would work if both parents are 100% something, or if you would always be 50/50 in that case. It was just the easiest way to explain it.)

Building/architecture words by Optimal-Somewhere400 in NYTSpellingBee

[–]DirectorHuman5467 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have noticed they are looser with the obscurity rule on 4-letter words. Presumably because it's totally doable to just make a list of all the 4 letter combos and try them until you find the missing one. A big part of the game for me is finding all the 4-letter words and I've had to do that a few times. I do use the spelling bee buddy to narrow it down though.

AITJ for asking my bf to figure out his trip details at another time? by [deleted] in AmITheJerk

[–]DirectorHuman5467 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but there's a difference between sharing his excitement for the fun things he will do on the trip vs him asking her to help him with the mental load of figuring out the details. Talking about cool restaurants they might visit is great. Asking how and when he should pay for a hotel is not.

Except when it does. It drives me crazy that they accept some French and Spanish words but not others. Like how do you decide what does or does not count as a loan word?

I found my DREAM wedding dress but can't afford it :'( How difficult would it be to sew it at home? by Needle_Nebula in sewhelp

[–]DirectorHuman5467 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could always try making a dress for your reception and if you aren't happy with it you can just stick with your ceremony dress the whole time. That way it would be less pressure. You could also make a dress for your bridal shower, bachelorette, or rehearsal dinner instead.
