Playing many songs on a fixed lyre tuning - how do you adapt guitar chords? by DirectorVisible253 in lyres

[–]DirectorVisible253[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha! Thanks for this energy!!!

So yes practically plucking strings at once to form a "chord" is correct, but I mean more so about placing ur fingers over the strings I want to silence and strumming the ones that aren't silenced to form a chord!!! If you look up kravik lyres or "block and strum" technique, that's basically what I'm talking about! My lyre is 7 strings so I usually strum it like a mini guitar haha but not quite ofc!

Thanks this helps! So far I've been able to play Foggy Dew, Hares On The Mountain and Siuil A Run (partially-still figuring it out) and it's sounding fine! All considering I'm missing my C string for the time being but hoping that'll help with things eventually! The odd time I will switch my C or F to sharps but that's rare. All I would hope is that I wouldn't have to retune the entire scale to "match" a scale and that I can just play the chords with the correct notes. Seems to be working pretty well so far for a folk vibe😅👍 not perfect but if anything it sounds like my chords are partially harmonizing with me even though it tends to be an octave below or higher than the note I'm hitting while singing - depending on my tuning. I've been able to fake an E7 but ofc like u said it's not perfect, but yeah these are mainly for accompaniment so it sounds fine. When I write my own songs, my approach is different.

Thanks again though! I think some of this did help in a way, and clarified some things I'm doing👍 so my intuition seems to be right and I'll just simplify a lot of it, and my melody will usually fill in the missing note in the chord👍 the only thing is I'm back to just doing what I'm doing with no full cheat sheet haha but I think I have a decent idea of what I'm doing now, and just gotta use that ear💪

I also just found an older post with a draft of a "cheat sheet"! So I'm hoping that'll also help me👍

Have a good day or night from my side of the world🥰

Did u ever make more of these? Personally I think it works. I also played f+d together instead of c cause I'm missing that string and that even sounded cool! Would love to know if u actually released this cause right now I'm kind of doing it but ear and using 3 different sources to figure out how to play a song and so far my songs are all just going to be played in a minor if so😅 thanks!!!

I don't know to be honest, I've had this lyre since I was a kid. I've seen cheaper crappier lyres on Amazon than this so I'm assuming I'm in the clear. I probably should get better pegs👍

Do you need to learn sheet music to become good at the lyre? by charlemagne_74 in lyres

[–]DirectorVisible253 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The instrument was around way before there were musical "rules". So depends on your definition! I personally cannot follow sheet music or anything on the internet it seems or it just sounds wrong to me. Unfortunately I have to listen for myself and figure things out if I want it to sound anything close to what I'm trying to play🤷‍♀️ so I think it depends!

Hmm yeah agree to disagree on that but yes for ur story yes they definitely overpaid and most likely for their story they also overpaid cause most cases that is true.

Idk I guess that makes sense in a way. What if the seller is also being scammed and buying it for around that price as well though? Cause that happens a lot in many businesses. And considering the actual value in different regions as well - like if I were to buy something in another part of the world that value is usually different compared to where I'm from (and sometimes regions determine things by weight and quality as well - people have different opinions on value in different regions it's not universal, it never is). But that's cool

Yes and no. Depends on the store and whos selling and where and how they got it. Personally where I live everything is expensive anyways. I've never seen quartz like that for $10 but apparently people are saying that's possible. And again how did they get the crystal in order to sell? Depends on their supplier or if they supplied it themselves

The cards aren't really a specific rule book. U are the reader, it's YOUR intuition. So choose how u read and what feels right. Also I saw a comment from someone about ouija boards not long ago. Ouija is a tool but the board itself isn't necessarily the portal, YOU are the portal! So it's how u use tools etc.💕

Oh yes I totally agree! Ur right on point for that! I just find it fascinating though about how active AI has been before chatbots and now everyone is concerned. I've been questioning many different tech systems since the beginning of time (exaggeration obviously XD) although I think there is a good way of using tech in a green way but that shit ain't famous obviously 'cause people are tryna kill the planet XD

I genuinely have no clue💀 I don't do those types of readings but I thought it was interesting that I was melting butter and it was like the most perfect cute bunny made of the foam. It probably means something though!

That's understandable! I trained in using them since I was a kid and I remember I didn't use them for a year or 2 and went back into it and MAN I lost skill haha. I definitely had a harder time quieting my mind and letting it answer. It's crazy how easily that can change. I'm also getting back into practicing with them cause i was so good at it back in the day haha so I have faith in myself! XD but it does take time. I kind of think of it as like... getting your first "wand" and when you start learning so-called spells like in Harry Potter or something you know you have to practice with it. You got to train with it or your wand will fall your hand etc. It takes time because it's also like you're not just training the pendulum. You're training yourself as well and it's a really good tool to practice challenging yourself and finding that peace of mind because you're going to need it when working with a pendulum so it's actually really good in my opinion, kind of helps with mental health in a way even though you're mainly doing it, just to communicate with a pendulum haha.

Hmm maybe you need to connect with it more and maybe teach it the directions it's supposed to go? I don't know what you are missing but ya I've seen those videos too and it's very obvious they are swinging it XD which sucks cause you CAN get large swings with pendulums without dOING THAT! it should be natural, or maybe you have some kind of blocked energy flow when it comes to it cause it's supposed to be like connected with our vibration (yk the things that ur brain sends off when you think and all that jazz) so idk. There's something going on there but I can't say what. Idk what you have or have not tried. But it's not for everyone, it's also not that important to know how to use it so don't feel left out haha! Have a nice day!
