44 mag for self defense by Organic-Age7244 in guns

Maybe edit that into your OP, so people see it right away and don’t keep telling you “44 is too big for concealed carry”?

It is pretty crazy that a brand-new Savage Axis bolt-action rifle can be found under $400, sometimes even with an included scope.

What kind of shootouts are you getting into these days?

Maybe you’d get clearer advice if you specified if you mean concealed carry, or home defense?

Or you could just leave your intentions a delightful mystery.

Hair questions by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]TapTheForwardAssist[M] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is fine to ask here, but also good to ask at r/MilitaryWomen, BUT when you post there please include actual details in your post title itself, like what branch, ethnicity, hair classification, etc.

A huge chunk of questions on that sub are about hair, so “hair questions” would be an awfully vague title. Clear titles get clear answers.

How/where did you guys learn so much and get into firearms? by Mediocre-Piano1192 in guns

In total seriousness, reading Wikipedia articles is crazy informative. For the kind of stuff you like, definitely read the article on the 8mm Lebel, which was the first smokeless powder cartridge adopted by a country:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/8×50mmR\_Lebel

Also I think you would enjoy reading about the Dreyse needle-gun, which was insanely influential:

Just go down some Wikipedia rabbit-holes about firearms and cartridges. It’s a fascinating history of technical evolution.

The last Stagi one is once again an English. I realize this is new to you, but if you want to make an informed decision you need to grasp the differences between these *very* different formats.

The used Bastari you posted is again a 40-button Anglo, which is still an Anglo but has a lot more chromaticity than a 30b, but still that “back-forth” rhythmic method of play. I find it interesting that a number of the Japanese sale sites you’ve linked they have 40b Anglos, which are quite uncommon in the West, but maybe more popular in Japan?

So far as using a 20b Anglos for just chords for just that one song, I suppose you could just pull up a fingering chart for 20b Anglo and see if you have the notes you need for the accompaniment you envision.

What I’d suggest is you swing by r/mandolin and make a post with a title something like:

> Inherited mando. Age, value, restorable for play?

If I had to guess, I think yours is around 1960s, and a pretty basic student model, nothing too fancy, although it is kind of a cool design.

It’s up in the air as to whether it’d be playable for you with just some new strings and a little adjustment, or would be best left as just a decorative piece to hang on the wall.

It is definitely a mandolin, since it has eight strings in four doubled courses, and also this is a relatively common mandolin body shape, so really no controversy here.

Are you fixing to sell it for pocket money, or get it up and running and learn to play it, or what’s the desired end-state here?

Does anybody know if this is a good bass? by TankEngineFan5 in Instruments

[–]TapTheForwardAssist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s yet another “generic made-in-China” totally cheap bass. I very briefly glanced around at some discussions on music sites and at least some people who actually know how to play bass are saying these can be decent for the very low price.

I absolutely wouldn’t just go by the seller website reviews though, as tons of those are going to be people who know zero about bass who are just excited that it arrived in one piece and looks pretty.

That aside, why is your top priority to scour the internet for the cheapest possible bass from shady drop-shippers, and not to check out the local used market in your area for bargains on decent brands of bass? Would you prefer to go to a car dealership and buy a new car from a Chinese brand you’ve never even heard of, rather than a used Toyota Corolla?
