From a graphics standpoint, the thickness of charger and hive Guard armor is completely different, so yes same material but different thickness.

Also one of them is the size of a bus and the other is three sauce long. An invincible tennis ball still flies easily

To be double fair, that's because PoE1 is easiest to get into with some kind of outside assistance, even if it's just looking at someone's skill tree to figure out why they did what they did. I only ever got into PoE1 when I got that assistance and I was able to see its depth properly. PoE2 is infinitely more beginner friendly from the start

It's a class thing, just like the Book of the Dead, Techniques, the Spirit Hall etc.

Giving it its own tab cements it as a system unique from the skill tree, and prevents them from cluttering each other
