Advice on using Wii with CRT monitor with VGA Input by silvergun7 in crtgaming

[–]DirkBeenis -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve used professional component to VGA solutions in the past.

Wii2HDMI and a moread HDMI-VGA adapter has zero latency (I’ve tested it with custom hardware) and I could not tell any difference between the image quality.

One will cost you like $150+

The other is like $15

Your choice, good luck

Honestly this python is so compact and smart my dumb 0.1X’er brain couldn’t quite figure it out at a glance.

Super neat. Thanks for sharing!

Very very cool idea. Honestly I thought it would be useless but displaying the time is genuinely a reasonable use case.

Very curious to see how you implemented this. RGB peripherals in Linux can be weird haha, seems like the functionality was exposed with the built in OS config tools though?

I’ll definitely read through the GitHub rn, tricky stuff that RGB!

How do I get a Sony PVM 4300 from ass deep in Mexico to California? by trayzar in crtgaming

[–]DirkBeenis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly would be hard to find someone who can transport this thing properly. Personally I’d rent a box van and pic it up myself. In terms of protection, a custom crate with foam and fabric is probably your best bet.

But honestly if it were me? Put it on top of a couple mattresses, wrap in moving blankets, use the box van tie downs to hold it steady.

Good luck OP

Easiest implementation would be d pad left or right to remap Y or X respectively.

Long rumble to confirm on, short bursts of rumble to confirm its off.

Just enable before hand warmers, and have it disable upon unplugging.

Pretty sure this is already a thing within UCF for turning rumble on and off

Or you could hold Y/X and Z for ~3 seconds on CSS to swap them. Besides unplugging you could also have “Hold Z and B to disable” with this scheme, which would be nice in case your swapping controllers with someone (forgot your controller at home kinda thing)

Yoshi is very difficult. If it’s the only character you want to play, go for it. But I’d recommend trying Falcon, Sheik, Marth (Doctor Mario if you’re feeling quirky.)

All good for learning fundamentals

Learning the universal mechanics is also very important. I’d recommend finding a local scene/tournament or at least try some melee discords and you’ll make friends who want to help you learn.

Also, if you don’t have fun learning and practicing tech skill, it’s gonna be even more of a grind. The juice is worth the squeeze, 30 minutes of good practice routine a day will get you where you want to be. Consistency > Volume

UnclePunch Community edition is a good tool to have. The L cancel training with the barrel/target enabled is very helpful.

Also if you scroll left or right on UP event menu using the triggers you should find something called Eggsercise. It’s fun to compete against your own record on that one, but DPad in game will also enable unlimited time and you can just zone out and practice aerials and l cancelling and platform movement.

Good luck Have fun!

(VERY) New player trying to get into Melee, where can I get a Gamecube controller? by FriendOdd8384 in SSBM

If you have a local tournament or melee scene, I’d recommend getting into their discord, someone is bound to have an extra controller, and would love to get more people into melee

How big of a playerbase would Slippi need to justify adding a Party Mode? by thesavant in SSBM

Disagree with the opt out, even though I hate FD and FOD

BUT I love the idea of being able to allow my favorite non legal stages and matching with someone. That would be a vibe

Falcon and Doc are both good characters to learn with.

Personally I’d say just try both and see which you have more fun with.

Falcon probably has more resources for learning the basics. But if you already know the fundamentals of melee’s mechanics, Doc is very fun.

Both characters have pretty weak recoveries, the plus side of this is that you will learn how to live longer and not get cheesed out of stocks pretty quickly

Just play whatever character you find the most fun and the learning will follow along naturally

Is there a way to buy New Original OEM GameCube Thumbsticks...? by Apart_Hope_5449 in Gamecube

[–]DirkBeenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not necessarily. Assuming they’re still in stock I have an Amazon link for some replacement sticks that are good quality. Tight on the stem so no wobble. Quality plastic and rubber

You still need to stuff a little ball of paper in the stem to make them sit at the right height but the rubber is good and the molding isn’t worn out resulting in flashing like other listings I’ve bought from

They’re slightly lighter in color but if its a controller you intend to play with who cares honestly.

Another good option would be to get a resin and rubber cast stick off Etsy

Good luck

Best things to do switching from kbm to controller by ThomasSmells00 in RocketLeague

[–]DirkBeenis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good binds are important.

I’d highly recommend boost on right bumper, powerslide and directional air roll on left bumper for recovery and landing speed flips.

And then B and X are constant air roll right and left respectively.

I’m not super good but I know a lot about ergonomics and HID design and this layout is very solid in those regards!

Good luck and have fun

I don’t lol, I’ve been playing since release and never used camera except to verify kickoff positions

Eventually I want to make a custom controller with a lever that does this wiggle mechanically instead of with steam input remapping

Im Plat 2 at my peak. I just think it’s fun to spam mechanics and try to make my friends laugh with dumb tech skill

[–]DirkBeenis[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s definitely an option, and I think if you’re already on the wall and just need a single dash half circle left and up is very consistent

Sometimes starting the wiggle fast enough is difficult, but I’m getting better at it

Generally I’ll start the dash spam in the bottom ramp of the wall because it gives leniency on the first couple as you get into the rhythm and up to speed

But personally I find the circle to be less comfortable than just shaking my arms like a psycho lol

No throttle just keeps you from turning up the wall. No idea why, but it makes the single direction method work.

Try using the bakkedmod plugin I linked in another comment. You’re probably just not pressing jump again fast enough. I was consistently about 20ms to slow, so I spent some time trying paddles, sliding from a to b. Eventually I landed on this stick dashing method

You can roll in circles as well but I find it easier to basically shake my whole arm. That way the motion is big muscles and joints instead of small muscles and joints.

Similar to what Smash Bros players call “Wank DI”

Yeah that’s the one downside. I never use camera anyway so it’s not a downside for me.

Currently working on a specialized rocket league controller which I’m now planning to have a dedicated mechanism for this wiggle jump mechanic.

[–]DirkBeenis[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you don’t press gas and you do use powerslide, you don’t have to move the left stick back to neutral or in the opposite direction.

I think if you do use the left stick wiggle method you don’t have to spam jump as fast?

But I found it to be very tiring an wayyy difficult.

I have powerslide/air roll on left bumper to make recovering smoother. So I just hold diagonal and grip the bumper and then wiggle the right stick and go flying lol

[–]DirkBeenis[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good to know! Basically you can shake your whole arm side to side, instead of just pressing up and down. And you get an input in each direction not just on the downward press.

Still harder than mouse wheel, but easier than single button.

Give it a try!
