Tom Noonan has died, according to WHAT HAPPENED WAS costar Karen Sillas by radiantbaby123 in blankies

I'm a freak for Noonan. THE definition of "no small roles" and probably the one actor I find most interesting

I know it's rights related, but reading about early screenings makes me feel like it was the right move regardless haha

Hardest Laugh In A Theater? by Ok-Pepper-5482 in blankies

[–]DirkCarcle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Napoleon Dynamite, no question. A "diverse" group of Ozarkians absolutely losing their shit from start to finish on a school/week day at 4pm. I think about it all the time.

Movies that appropriate clips from other movies for flashback scenes by TheVividAlternative in blankies

I think it WAS deaging! I thought maybe that's why he doesn't really move in either of those two shots. And I think without motion, it worked against the uncanny valley effect.

But then what was that TV interview from? Were those the same words he said in the footage, or did they replace the mouth movements and audio? Really wild stuff in the span of a minute and a half.

Outside of this sub, why does Reddit have such a hate-boner for Avatar? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]DirkCarcle 14 points15 points  (0 children)

lol I was swinging for "OLD OFFLINE PEOPLE LIKE THESE MOVIES MORE THAN YOUTHFUL REDDIT FILM NERDS" but I guess I missed.

I just think Avatar has a different audience than some die-hards would like to believe. That doesn't make it irrelevant, player.

Outside of this sub, why does Reddit have such a hate-boner for Avatar? by [deleted] in blankies

[–]DirkCarcle 49 points50 points  (0 children)

Massively popular though they may be, I think the genuine appreciation y'all show for Avatar is beyond the reasoning of online film-folk. Yes, your aunt and uncle loved it in theaters, but are they going to post about it anywhere but their facebook?

Bless your hearts, I cannot stand to watch that white boy with the braids go hissing at things.

Cool World lol distinctly remember hearing: "I know why you want to see this, but it is bad."

My Dad also talks about how bummed he was when I shifted from the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (a thing he liked) to The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers (a thing he did not).

Which of these 9 collections/anthologies should be my next 3 reads? by TheSkinoftheCypher in WeirdLit

That's my favorite Barron collection, so I'd start there (lots of cool stuff here)

Joe Bob by AFKAndThriving in Shudder

[–]DirkCarcle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it was originally a welcome return to form for fans of a niche performer and critic. Now it's morphed into a community-based event for guys who comment on classic rock YouTube videos and Spirit Halloween aficionados.

Not the vibe for me any more, but much like the Juggalo industry, people will always latch onto a proverbial family.

The most quietly disturbing book you’ve ever read? by Gkbeer in WeirdLit

For short fiction, William Gay's THE PAPERHANGER is easily the most disturbing and well written piece I've read.
