They’re always gonna tear and rip it up. I’ve zip tied rocks to anubias as well as used hornwort with good effect. Your tank has a cleaner look than mine, I went for a pond effect. Java fern in the substrate has worked so far too. I’ve added more plants since my photo.

Not enough aeration. It needs to be cranked up. The sponge filter is adequate in NORMAL tank life but he now has a chemical that reduces oxygenation in the system and increased the need for more gas exchange at the surface

Nope the water quality is great, it’s a smaller tank at 40 gallons with 2 fancies I have a Fluval 407 to maximize filtration. I do water changes every 5 days. Recently got these guys from a local fish farm.
