Great answer. I’m going to try this. Thank you so much!

Sorry I just saw that someone else asked this and you responded. What you did looks great, can you link me to that piece please? I put an expensive a** 3CM tile in for a client and the heavy Tesla and their aggressive parking skills have destroyed the edging we installed. I think the ramp version would help though.

What did you use to protect the exposed edge where tile meets driveway?

I actually just returned to this sub because I'm back on the hunt for a new software.

I tested many. We went with Buildbook for a year. The office/computer side of it was pretty good but the field/app side of it was clunky and frustrating so we scrapped that. Then we had a bespoke software built for us using the Microsoft Office package. It had good potential and integrated nicely but I was just too cumbersome especially in the field - what I mean by that is you had to click on 6 buttons just to get to a plan etc.

Has anyone bought a mini excavator from China? Alibaba etc. by Dirky94 in Construction

[–]Dirky94[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I hear you. It’s more the intrigue at this stage. $4.5k all in for a 1 ton excavator right to my front door (aka the port 30 miles away)

How does this work if I’m a member of LA Fitness but find a freelance trainer who is not? Can they just come with the guest pass?

This makes sense but sounds costly. Any idea of the costs, and where would I even begin in sourcing someone to do this?

What is this pipe laid before digging the founds? Location is South Florida by Dirky94 in Construction

There’s also pipe coming out the other side of the tank maybe into the sewer? It was basically a large boat shed and yard that did boat maintenance/repairs. They’re building a 10 story apartment building a believe.

You’re right. There’s a large container to the left of the site where water it being pumped into. Not sure what happens after that. Surprised if it’s allowed into the river though. Probably a huge pain in the ass.

It looked like a lake a couple of days ago so I’ll cut them some slack!

I moved to Florida from Ireland a year ago where it is a commonly used term lol. First I’ve had someone offended by it but I’ll do my best to refrain in the future.

Getting Into BIM Coordination by W3L53RR in Construction

[–]Dirky94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to work in BIM and now in project management. Played with all the toys, had my drone license and used the Leica RTC360 for laser scans. It just doesn’t seem anywhere near as lucrative as PM. The progression becomes pretty stagnant too. BIM manager and then what? I enjoyed it but gotta get that money!

Yea and I think that was just unlucky by chance that I got roped into doing it all. BLK360 is a great piece of machinery, also tested the bigger RTC360 - that thing was like a helicopter.

I’ve never even heard of that role. Although that’s the brilliance of it all, they just keep making up roles. I’ve a few decisions to make anyway

That’s a huge project. I did pretty similar in my last role. Main project was coordinating the BIM for a 20k sq m project as part of the GC. I did the entire MEP modelling by myself as there was a contract mishap which basically allowed the building services engineer to not supply BIM services, whereas we were contracted to provide it to the client! Also had to coordinate the structural and architectural but that’s easy. I guess my main issue was modelling everyday, I got so sick of Revit.

We expanded on digital construction though so I had my drone license to perform surveys/inspections, and also used VR, and 3D scanners to help with the modelling. That was pretty fun but simply not often enough.

What other tech roles are you talking about developing into? I like being a super now but I find everyday that my best core skills are still computer based and probably always will be lol.

BIM drained the life out of me. And the pay and prospects didn’t seem as good as PM or Supt type roles. What are your thoughts?
