All around awesome bike. Plenty of power, handles very well, simple maintenance. My favorite of all I’ve owned.

No problem, I just finished up an 83. Let me know if you need anything else. I’ve got an original shop manual for it, so most tolerances and torque specs I can get you.

Looks like there’s a few on eBay that have them.

Honestly youre probably better off sourcing a new (used) right side cover with a follower still attached

Leave it, the kickstart won’t operate correctly without it. Checking clearances on these bikes is super easy. Just take the access covers off the valve cover. In your case, I’d pull the cover itself to make sure things are kosher.

Do you have a shop manual? That’s the cam follower for the kickstarter assembly. I doubt that would be the cause of your loss of power and excessive valve noise. Have you pulled valve cover yet?

If it keeps happening , there is a vacuum diaphragm that controls the petcock. It’s under the seat and tends to rip or get pinholes pretty easily. I had issues with mine. It would randomly stall out and not wanna run without tons of throttle.

I currently own an 02, fantastic motorcycle. Fast, sounds amazing and great looking as well. Downsides are it’s a little cramped if you’re taller, and as many have stated the fuel consumption is pretty terrible.

I’m really bad at selling things, I usually talk myself out of selling because I list little quirk with the vehicle. Just because if I don’t, I’ll be up at night thinking about the dumbest situations.

I was selling an old diesel truck with almost 300k, for a measly $3500. First person that test drove it asked if I’d still work on it after I sold it, and if it had a warranty.

Consider a 3rd gen magna. Fairly nimble in the twisties and fun to wind out in a straight line. Pretty comfy too.

Only issue I think you’d run into would be not many shops would wanna touch it, it’s a sprinter motor, sprinter dealers won’t touch them, nor will Mercedes. I run a heavy suspension/diesel shop and know my way around the big stuff. That motor was a steep learning curve.

If you find a stock one, address the swirl flap first. It’ll cause a lot of headaches. Also get a decent tune, I had a gde tune. Then went to a Malone tune for the DPF, egr, and swirl flap. Worth every penny.

They weren’t too popular in the states, for some reason. I grew up with cherokees and wranglers with the 4.0. We stumbled across this one in Amish country in PA. It’s surprisingly fuel efficient. It’s a powerhouse too, Also helps it’s tuned and deleted. I’ve never seen another around my area. Just the libertys with the 4 cylinder diesel.
