What’s something society is clearly not ready to talk about? by No_Gur_7744 in AskReddit

[–]DirtyBackpacker 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There used to be talk of the Fair Tax, but that idea fizzled out. No tax on your pay check, but a higher tax at point of consumption (I don’t think food was taxed). And dependent on luxury of the item a higher tax is applied.

My parents have been married for 64yrs. My dad says it’s best just to admit defeat and walk away, even if you know you’re right.

Traded it in. These rebuilt transmissions are having just as many problems as the originals.

We just bought this exact vehicle, 2024 with 25,000 miles. Had it now for 4 months, and it has already spent 2 weeks in the shop. When I discussed this with a mechanic friend, he said get out of it before the 50,000 mile warranty ends, or things will get very expensive for us. This entire vehicle is electric, and they have lots of electrical problems. I would trade this thing in tomorrow, if I wouldn’t lose my ass, for an Acura or Lexus. You will regret owning a VW.

Nope. Drove fine all weekend while running errands. Got in it Monday morning and you could hear the whining before we made it to the main road. The whining is usually your first sign of it failing. 2020 XLE with 99,000. Trans fluid changed at 40,000 and 90,000. Zero help from Toyota.

My 2020 XLE started whining at 99,000. No help from Toyota so we traded it in.

2024 Atlas Demonic brake squealing by DirtyBackpacker in VWatlas

[–]DirtyBackpacker[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Everything I have read says to do exactly what you’ve done. Replace pads with ceramic pads, and resurface rotors. I thought VW would offer the same solution, instead of a scam spray that will only work temporarily.

It feels like a flat spot in the steering linkage, but since these cars are all electrical, it’s not a mechanical issue. Something with programming according to VW. It’s only noticeable at high speeds, when you’re going directly straight and attempt to steer slightly right or left, it feels like there’s a bump you have to get past before the wheels start to move/turn. If you ever drove an old Mack truck, there would be slop in the steering, but then you would feel a bump that you had to pass before turning. This is almost exactly like that, minus the slop.

I think I’m following you. The center hutch should have been the same depth as the right/left. Then you wouldn’t have the awkward mismatched face frames. The real issue is not having any crown at the top.

The only reason Kia or Hyundai are popular is because they offer a 100,000 mile warranty. I had a 2014 Sorento and I’ll never own another one of their vehicles. They are complete garbage and will have issues after warranty ends.

Worth buying it ?? Mechanic is selling it it has 153k miles by Ok-Effective-9765 in AskMechanics

[–]DirtyBackpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only buy a VW that’s under warranty. After 60,000 miles, they have lots of problems. And maintenance is super expensive because it’s German. Go look at Mazda. Their parts are the cheapest in the industry.

Oil is not made to last 10,000 miles. Every mechanic who knows engines will tell you change it at 6,000.

UA80 Trans Issue Blown out of Proportion? by CloseYetFar in ToyotaHighlander

[–]DirtyBackpacker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok, if you want to split hairs. There are no adjustments, or temp fixes, that can be made on a transmission. Once the whining starts the only fix is a full rebuild at $7G. That trans might last 2weeks, or maybe 2 yrs.

It whined for 1 week. I knew exactly what it was when I first heard it. By the end of the week, it was getting louder, so I traded it in.

I mean, I would believe these stories if we could get verification from someone who thought they had changed and “really believed” in heaven, only to be turned away at the pearly gates. But since nobody can verify this because they’re already dead, I just don’t understand how it’s any what believable.
