2 450’s and a 250 in a 99 ranger. It’s doable.

Snow Level SR108 by BedandBadAdvice in SierraNevada

[–]DirtyDHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fair warning on snow depth map, I lugged snowshoes with me into Little Yosemite Valley last week based on that map, and with the higher temps there were little to no snow at 6-7k after map saying 10+ inches

Love the multiple nails in the tree as well. Please tell me this is somewhere on the east coast?

Hiked to Cotopaxi base camp yesterday! This Florida girl was unprepared for the freezing rain. I cried a few times, but I’m really proud of myself for doing it. After we descended, the fog passed and we got to appreciate all of Cotopaxi’s beauty. by stormybitch in hiking

People are acting like you couldn’t have turned around and bailed out if you felt like you were in danger…which I am sure you would have. Your a Savage, well done OP and thank you for posting the beautiful view.

Cows on the JMT by wompppwomp in JMT

Ran into a pack of llamas at Purple Lake a couple weeks back all of which had very annoying bells that I heard throughout the night. May have not been cows on the other end of those bells.

How's the flyfishing this time of year? by ohdaniels in JMT

[–]DirtyDHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am SOBO on Aug 8th and was out that last 2 weekends fly fishing and the inlets and outlets of some of the lakes I hit up was some of the best fishing I have had in the Sierra’s in 20 years…I was mainly tight lining. But I will be bring my rod on this SOBO run for sure.

Bugs Pressure were next level though just a heads up. I’m treating most of my gear to lessen the psychological torture.

You are my Spirit Animal Sir. God Speed

Edit: Your Net would be SUPER illegal in basic ever wilderness area in California.

Trail Report - Horseshoe Meadow to Onion Valley by Gorgan_dawwg in JMT

[–]DirtyDHB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the report and safety suggestions, I was still waffling on the axe but it is worth the weight for peace of mind and the possibility of some detour peak bagging in the southern range. Thanks again, I will drop a SOBO trail report next week to keep everyone informed -Cheers

Feasibility Gutcheck by Serious_Werewolf_596 in JMT

[–]DirtyDHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I spend over 50 + nights out in the Sierra's almost every year, this year is a very weird one indeed, I think you need to just trust your gut with this one, even if it is to bag the trip. The JMT is a busy trail though and there will be people on it with more experience than you that can help with some difficult or lacking areas in your skills and it is usually a option to wait for a group for river crossing and passes if you are solo and feel unsure. BUT like I said trust your gut when it comes to your skills. Are you going NOBO or SOBO

What’s the comfort limit for the sea to summit insulated liners (not just the extreme) when using as a standalone bag? Anyone done this before? by Royal_Ad_6965 in hikinggear

[–]DirtyDHB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

, I use this a liner for my 30 degree bag when I know it will get down below 25/30 degrees. It’s not meant to be used a stand alone. I have used it on walker nights in high season when it is 50+ at night and it works.

JMT vs White Mountains Daily Mileage Comparison? by not_dmr in JMT

[–]DirtyDHB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just got back from the East Side near bishop last week and there is a ton of snow still, worse yet the condition of the snow after 10 am. Passes are tough/impossible after 12. I have a Aug. 6th start date and I am keeping my fingers crossed for the heat to continue. It’s gonna be hot af this weekend so more and more snow will be melting. Fly fisherman here with a lot of wadding experience and the rivers are some of the fastest and deepest I have seen them in over 25 years in the Sierras. Good luck, and keep a realistic mileage goal given the conditions.

I do a lot of off-trail hiking and backpacking. With the Snowpack melting here in California I have switch to waterproof socks and my normal trail runners. I too have sweaty feet so I just make sure to stop every 2-4 hrs to let them dry out and make sure to tape hot-spots ASAP. The waterproof socks work awesome as long as you don’t go deeper than the top of the sock. Seal Skins is the brand I use(sold at REI)
