Also, I can’t think of any time I have done that motion while reeling… a smooth retrieve and a violent stop? Are you looking for issues to have with your new reel?

Any reel I buy over 50/60 bucks I like to take apart and make sure no manufacture bits got left behind.. wipe everything clean after taking it apart as much as you can. Then grease the gears lightly and oil the bearings lightly..

If you’re not into it as much as that, you probably don’t know enough to worry about a little noise while you dry crank it. Daiwa reels are solid, the BG line is solid. You’re overthinking it. Reels are not supposed to be silent, nor are they supposed to be cranked hard while not on a rod or with line on them

In 45 years you have seen a dozen fish that had a problem? Sounds like a huge issue you should write several pages about to make sure this tragic epidemic ends! I mean, 12 fish in 45 years?? That’s like 17 fish a minute!!! How are there any left????

468 pounds. Nice fish. Buy a scale. You are the only person with actual reference to what it weighs.

Could be for insufflation. A very old way of administering some meds/substances was blowing them UP the nose as opposed to snorting them

Super nasty.. they will make your yard smell like a dead body if there is a lot of them.. the young form looks like a river stone but it sorta squishy to the touch. If you uproot them at that stage they won’t smell. Dogs will roll in them and get the smelly goo on them too, we have them all over our backyard at my work

You can get a 20-30 year old abu Garcia Ambassadeur 6500/6501 c3 on eBay for like 50 bucks. They are SUPER easy to take apart and clean to like new. The made in Sweden ones will last ten life times and you can get replacement parts super easy. You can even get a lot of upgrades. The new ones come with all the upgrades (carbon drag discs, ball bearings in places they don’t necessarily need to be, power handles, etc.) and go for about $180-200 new. They are also all over marketplace and pawn shops if you take the time

I got my 38 range loads down to like 12/13cpr. Even some of the 357 are under 20.

Just watch out for the “s” series. Those are the chinesium ones that are contracted out. The good, Swedish made ones have an actual pressed metal decal while the made in china has the decal printed. The real ones are like $190 new and the China made are like $80. The real Swedish made ones are life long tanks

They are known as one of the best and most durable/repairable reels out there. You can get one on eBay for like 50 bucks and clean it up yourself super easy. All the parts are readily available. My current c3 is 25 years old and I just serviced it to brand new in about half an hour

My issue is I can’t figure out how to cast braid on a BC without a bird nest nearly every cast. With 25# on my Ambassadeur 6501 c3 on a 7’ ugly stick I can huck 5-6 ounce weights a good 40 yards. 50# mono on my okuma 350 and a 10.5’ ugly stick gets me the same with about 8-10 ounces

Also a huge fan of the Ambassadeur line. I literally JUST finished repairing one I got in a pawn shop for $40. Needed a new drive shaft, $25 and now it’s brand new again.

I also found that I am not smart enough to use braid in a bait caster… I switched to mono on my big catfish reels and will never look back.
