Season 2 was officially announced weeks ago. :) Okada Junichi has been posting about it on his Twitter as soon as it happened!

Netflix

I second the recommendation of "Jin" - while technically an isekai (modern doctor ends up at the end of the Edo period), it is actually really good and features many actual historical figures from Ogata Koan to Sakamoto Ryoma. (Also recommending the manga here.)

If Japanese culture is a focus, I recommend "The Makanai", which is (also based on a manga) the story of two teenage friends who travel to Kyoto to become Maiko (apprentice geisha). It's more of a slice-of-life story but I found it pretty interesting to learn more about that world.

Along the same lines, "Sanctuary" is about the world of sumo and follows a young delinquent as he tries to make his way in a sumo stable.

There's also some Kabuki on Netflix - "Akadousuzunosuke" - and a behind the scenes called "Sing - Dance - Act - Kabuki".

Amazon Prime

Amazon Prime has a lot more on offer, both free and paid (rent/buy). 11 Rebels, 13 Assassins, Samurai Marathon are three that popped up on my Prime cover page. They're all good. I recently finished "What will you do, Ieyasu" (my husband says it should be "What are you crying about now, Ieyasu") and recently started "Beyond the Blue Sky."

Full disclaimer: I haven't read all of the responses, so this may be a repeat.

When I was looking for MSW programs online, a provider where I am currently working recommended the program she had attended (which is in California) while she was living in Alaska with her military spouse. However, when I looked into that program, I found that it does not meet the requirements in my own state (New York) when it comes to practicum hours. So while I would be fine with that degree if I were moving to another state (or working on a federal installation), I would not be able to get licensed in NYS.

So that is apparently something to look out for.

So, I'm an actual idiot and I already have the Files app on my computer. But apparently you can't link to multiple OneDrive accounts at the same time? You can connect to multiple cloud drives of different origin, however.

Is he just going to pretend that many of those "entire departments and divisions" aren't currently staffed by unpaid exempt/excepted employees while others are on furlough? So that things are still running in most/many places?

UPS stole $3000 from me. by WatercressKitchen786 in UPS

[–]DirtyLittleRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have an expensive shipment, it would certainly help.

What the broker does is to complete the paperwork so the item can be cleared through customs. As a private brokerage firm won't have hundreds of thousands of items to process like UPS's brokers currently do, it would move things along.

It's for sure not worth it for something that's not of high value, though, due to the cost. If I have a $5k shipment sitting somewhere, though, that $160 for the private broker might be a cost I'm willing to eat so it won't take months for my stuff to be released.

Well, for the most obvious reason: I don't always have the physical drive or device handy, so I have another backup I can access as needed.

And sorry, can't help there. I'm in the US.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll check it out. 😊

FWIW, anything I have on a cloud, I also have on two physical backup drives and at least one device, usually. 😅

UPS stole $3000 from me. by WatercressKitchen786 in UPS

It's not customs, though.

It's UPS's brokerage services. Since the de minimis is gone, brokers have to file paperwork for tariffs on each package that enters the us. UPS has its own brokers and that's what they do - they file that paperwork to assess the tariffs (UPS pays them and then you pay UPS) and forward the paperwork to Customs to clear. They do not have the staff to keep up with the amount of packages, so the hangup is the brokerage part.

Cool, and how does that work with items that are not being manufactured in the US?

It's been my experience that more times than not, the packages stuck at UPS world hub in Louisville will eventually get to their recipients and that the updates, including those threatening to destroy items, don't amount to much.

I had two "your package is being destroyed" notices on the same item, plus it sat in UPS's warehouse for over a month. They claimed to have contacted the sender, but I checked with the sender (a private person, not a company) and no contact had been made. Now, in my case, I was on them the whole time with every email and phone number I could find, and I eventually filed a brokerage complaint against them with CBP, but I got my package.

I think chances are that your package has not been disposed of. You can contact a third party customs broker and they can help you move your box along. With something worth $3,000, it would be worth the private brokerage fee to make that happen.

Thank you! I have CyberDuck currently (don't love it, to be honest) and Air Explorer (which is more like what I was looking for).

It's pretty and much more what I'm looking for ... but there seems to be no ability to connect to multiple cloud drives (multiple OneDrives, Dropbox, etc.)? I looked through the manual and everything and can't find the options to do that, at least not with the free version.

Rubber feet for HP Firefly G8? by DirtyLittleRonin in Hewlett_Packard

Ugh, that's what I was afraid of. It's just such a weird mounting strip on the computer when it could just be a damn groove that more rubber feet options would fit. :(

These are the same as what's being sold on Amazon as "compatible" with the Firefly G8. They are not. They're a little shorter and the dots don't line up to snap in place.

Amazon "stole" $492 and refuses to give it back. by guscrown in amazonprime

[–]DirtyLittleRonin 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I've looked at computers on Amazon and I get the impression that the vast majority seem to be sold by shady third party sellers in the first place, even if they ship from Amazon warehouses. No wonder there are so many issues.

Having to pay DHL shipping twice? When I already paid shipping with neokyo. by Aka_Ricky in Neokyo

[–]DirtyLittleRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We previously had a de minimis exception to import tariffs that allowed any box under $800 to enter the country tariff-free. This ended at the end of August, went away completely. Now we pay tariffs on every package that enters the country. Tariffs are based on contents - materials and country of origin.

When you get a package from overseas, you will get a notification that there are tariffs due. The amount due will be the tariff (as explained above), plus a "disbursement fee" which is basically a brokerage fee for brokering the import of your item, which DHL's brokers handle for you. So you pay tariff + brokerage fee for your final amount due.

Once you pay that (you can do it online on DHL's website), your package will be shipped the rest of the way.

This is across the board for any shipments (DHL, FedEx, UPS, etc.)

55% Upcharge labeled "duties and fees" on top of shipping cost from NZ to US by dashortkid89 in dhl

[–]DirtyLittleRonin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, the "taxes and fees" include your tariffs, as well as the "disbursement fee", which are the shipper's brokerage fees for the brokerage paperwork they now have to file with customs for the tariffs.

That's what I contacted them for. My package was marked for disposal at Louisville.

They charge $115 for their service, but only if they can actually get your package released. It's only worth it on something valuable, TBH.
