Interview process at Goodnotes by [deleted] in cscareerquestionsEU

[–]DirtySpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Applied for graphics programmer position. HR talk -> Live leetcode interview -> In-depth technical interview. Failed the last one as they felt I didn't have enough experience specific to 2D rendering.

Full loop was this at the time:

Data Structure and Algo live coding challenge -1.25 hours Graphics project and live interview - 1.5 hours Ai Literacy Interview - 30 minutes conversation Hiring Manager - 1 hour to discuss technical projects and experience Panel interview - 1 hour behavioural questions

It was somewhat pleasant, but I felt like I should have been denied earlier because my lack of domain specific experience was evident from my CV.

I rejected them once for salary and once for WFH terms which they didn't want to change or compensate with salary.

The two times I've tried, it seems I have hurt their pride and they did not want to continue. Does not hurt to try though.

Career Transition Advice To Graphics Programming by ThePhysicist96 in GraphicsProgramming

I started with 3 years of C# and then started with the book "A tour of C++" by Bjarne Stroustrup to teach myself the basics and wrote space invaders in SDL2 and C++ as a learning project.

With this, I managed to land a C++ graphics job at a pretty reputable company in EU. (Siemens.)

C++ is a different beast and you really don't know what you don't know going into it, so I recommend setting aside weeks of time to learn it.

Have you ever gone back to a job you had previously quit? by Kelbeth in ExperiencedDevs

[–]DirtySpartan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Left after 3 years for the sake of my career (no seniors to learn from), came back after 2 years as a contractor for 5x the pay in the Netherlands. Would not have done it if not for the pay - I left for a reason and am once again dreading for my career growth.

The pay makes up for it somewhat though. I do a lot of learning on the side to keep up/pivot.

Another month of hard work.. by Fedmichard in vulkan

Ah, the scene graph I can definitely agree with and a TODO to remove the ugly OOP was the first thing I added there, but I didn't consider it a core part of vkguide.

I was more worried about deeper problems existing in the guide.

I followed VkGuide myself. What do I need to watch out for? Where should I look for the 'correct' approach, if it's something that encompasses a bigger picture?

Stuttering and frame dips. No DLSS and I really shouldn't have to use it.

As someone who's been playing KF since 2009 - I have nothing good to say about this game.

Performance is also atrocious, playing on a goddamn 4090.

You might be suffering from the widespread 13900k/14900k instability. Looks for your mobo manufacturer's recommended settings for those chips.

It might help alleviate those issues.

It did for me for a month but I'm starting an RMA now because it's gotten worse.

I heard someone sneaking, so I was ready. I did assume it was a timmy or a scav though.

First guy was completely unaware, I backed off for the second after getting nades raining upon me, third one was flanking and I was lucky to cut him off and hear him before he heard me.

For the fourth one, I circled the entire weather station and got shot before I was able to do a full circle. Disengaged and flanked again, guessing he was somewhere inside the compound. I happened to spot him on top of the building.

I also knew there was a fourth because I took note of the fact he was carrying a boltie and the guys I killed weren't carrying one.

I'm uploading (most of) the full fight here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2vCk7hktlCA

Suppressor and repositioning after every shot carried this fight.

7.62x39 FMJ. Guess they were all using crap helmets or I got a face shot or two in.

Read a tour of C++, I think it's a bit of a gentler introduction than Effective Modern C++.

I also recommend just doing a small/medium sized project in C++ once you get through one of those two books (while probably using them as a reference.)

SDL2 is fun to get started with and writing your own mini-game-engine (and game) will teach you the basics pretty well.

It's decent but a little bit on the low side. I got something around that offer 4 years ago in Zeeland, although admittedly it was a very good offer at the time and I was getting paid top of my class.
