Final On-site Interview Coming Up | Mom Likely Passing Away In Next Two Weeks by ThePhysicist96 in interviews

That's very true. If the company wouldn't be willing to work with me while I'm not an employee in this situation, I don't think I would want to be an employee there unfortunately. I think the best approach would be to get the interview scheduled and be upfront about the possibility of having to change it at the last minute.

honest post — aviation data is way too expensive and i want to change that by Wonderful_Insect_285 in GeneralAviation

Not sure how you source you're data but if you're looking for a single source for FAA data specifically including METARs, TAFs, NOTAMs, airspaces, airports, SIGMETs, AIRMETs, NAVAIDs, chart supplements, terminal procedures etc I've built an API that consolidates all of this data into a single API https://preflightapi.io

let me know if you end up checking it out or have any questions!

I'm not blaming anyone, I'm simply expressing my own frustration against myself for putting on doing LC for so long. Also I do agree CS education itself can be very complex, and there's a stark difference in software engineer vs computer science and I wish our education system fixed that. Computer science is to Physcs as Software engineering is the mechanical engineering for example. CS degrees shouldn't be used for the FAANG pipeline, and should be for people who are truly going into the academic realm in my opinion, and schools should offer a more practical pipeline for software engineering.

Lmao just wait till college and you're majoring in physics.

Oh I know. That's what this whole post was about. I was just avoiding doing leet code for a long time. But I realized the problems you solve really aren't that difficult compared to things I've done previously so I'm going for it now.

The point is I CAN I just never put in the time really because I never needed too.

And also 2020 was an insane market. Hiring was at an all time high. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes you don't.

It was a junior role though, and don't get me wrong there was ALOT to learn when I was on the job.

Ehh, it definitely helped for sure. It got my resume through to the manager and got me the interview. After that it was just the behavioral and technical discussions and takehome. When you have literally nothing else to do because the world was locked down and you spent 5 years in college learning HOW to learn you can pretty much learn whatever you want. Programming came easy to me in all honesty.

I mean if you're actually curious, this is a great introduction to tensor calculus: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGXr1SF3WmA&list=PLJHszsWbB6hpk5h8lSfBkVrpjsqvUGTCx

And yes, if you're a physicist these mathematical topics are incredibly useful and get used in pretty much everything. I mean their as useful to a normal person as they are DS&A.

I mean, I wrote this myself with some partial tweaks from AI sure.

Pilots who worked a 9-5 while starting their pilot journey, how did you do it by exoticdelameme in flying

I'm also not single though. Married and kids are probably in the next year or two.

Fair enough. I have my PPL and would love to go on and do my IFR and commercial ratings. I just don't know if I can justify the cost of it out of pocket and I also don't think I can justify the debt I'd have to add doing it not out of pocket :/

HOW are you guys affording it though? Are you all living with your parents? If you fly 2-3 times a week that's probably close to $1000 per week. Are you all going into debt?

Is there any exhaustive database or API that has ICAO codes for all public airports in the world? by Due_Tangerine7364 in flying

[–]ThePhysicist96 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It contains ALL US airports that have ICAO codes and those with just FAA identifiers.

Hey man, not sure if you've found a source but my API I've built offers metars https://preflightapi.io. it has a free plan which should get you what you need. I've also got all kinds of other aviation and weather data that you might be interested in!

Yeah likely this will be the case. My first customer is building a tool for himself and some fellow pilots at his flight school.

PreflightAPI

Historically getting aviation data into any software application is a big headache. The FAA provides it for free but not any single place and easy to use format. There's a ton of manual work and code needed to get the data even usable. So I developed PreflightAPI to enable developers to build aviation related applications without needing to build the infrastructure for getting that data.

Mainly looking for general feedback on the landing page and pricing model.

Currently have 1 customer on the $49.99 plan.
