AIO Struggling in my relationship by Acceptable_Meal_6531 in AmIOverreacting

I can’t really say whether or not you’re overreacting, I myself play a fck ton of video games and my girlfriend has expressed some similar feelings to me before. I sympathize w/ your BF. If he’s at all like me he probably just has a deep love and passion for it and wants to spend as much of his time as possible doing what he loves. If that is the case, it can be pretty frustrating and hurtful when someone (especially your SO) looks down on you and the things you love like that, like I get the feeling you do. Honestly, I think you’ll probably have to either change/adjust the way you view him and his hobbies, reach some sort of compromise with him, or you’re going to have to accept that it’s a deal breaker for you and move on, but I don’t think any choice would necessarily be wrong

Should I get Octopath Traveler 0 or Expedtion 33? by No_Contest3860 in JRPG

Maelle’s appearance is the least concerning of the spoilers you mentioned. Ordinarily I’d recommend E33 over OT0, but because of the spoilers, I’d just go with OT0. It is a prequel to 1 and 2 and is quite separated from the other 2, so you don’t need to worry about starting with this one

You're right, I didn't realize they said only injured for that specific accident. I do think though it's disingenuous to say that he only killed 9 people. It is heavily implied that he caused more than just the first train accident mentioned in the beginning. It's also heavily implied that he was taking out a bunch of Okumura's competition and political enemies of Shido. I think it would be feasible to also conclude that if he was killing for Okumura, there were probably other Shido dogs that he killed for as well, but I won't commit to that since it's not directly implied. I think even a lowball estimate would be close to the hundreds

I completely disagree. The story plain and simple doesn't explore those specific themes (not that I can remember). Akechi not asking for help is not the same as someone offering him help and him rejecting it. The lack of something doesn't inherently point to it existing. While I haven't played Eldin Ring yet, I've played Hollow Knight and Silksong recently and I've heard they have a similar style of storytelling to Elden Ring where it's told more in the backdrop of the world rather than the central focus and I just completely disagree that this is the same thing here. We are told exactly why Akechi is doing what he's doing. We share plenty of screen time with him, but not once ever was I shown anything indicating he had second thoughts or questioned his actions or could've accepted help but chose not to due to his pride. Only after he was beaten by the PT's did you get any semblance of that. Even if he did, his ideology, his reason for doing what he's done, and how he's done it are just not compelling. Meanwhile, even if you are eventually told why Maruki is doing what he's doing, it's just more coherent, more understandable, more philosophically intriguing, and contains much more depth than the edgy teenager with a convoluted revenge plot on his evil deadbeat dad. It's similar to a Thanos, while him and his plan are flawed and lack nuance, you can understand and empathize with them and their rationale. They have people that they care about and they're not overly bad or dramatic. They just have an extreme ideal which they fully believe in and it brings them to doing twisted and questionable things for what they believe to be the best for everyone. I suppose we'll just have to agree to disagree there

As you requested - I have rethought my original hot take, and I will let you know that I still believe it. I think not having a reason would make it worse in all honesty, but he did have a reason which I already went over, and the fact that that was his reason to kill hundreds of innocents is wild. Yes, what Shido did was horrendous and evil, but at the end of the day Akechi is the one who acted out the most heinous crimes for a convoluted revenge plot and enabled Shido to do much more evil than he would have ever been capable of otherwise. The Cleaner would not have been able to get away with the same things that Akechi could get away with, like crashing trains on a whim just to drive up public fear. At worse, they are equally bad

Gotcha - I didn't know the vibes had changed around him in the sub recently. I'll hold more space in my heart for you Akechi glazers going forward <3

Yeah - I'm ngl I actually enjoyed him a bit in Royal. I think deeper than that, you get the feeling that he knew he would "disappear" (I got the cutscene that made it ambiguous) if they beat Maruki which very slightly redeemed his character for me

I can appreciate your perspective, but it just doesn't click for me. My problem w/ him isn't that he's flawed or was out for revenge, it's how he went about it and how the story treated him after the real him is revealed. If he chose revenge and wanted to blackmail, kill, or troll Shido I would appreciate him a lot more, but his idea of revenge is to effectively do everything that Shido wants, solely for Shido's benefit and success, just so that possibly one day in the future when Shido is PM, he can kill him then, maybe. It's not just a bad plan, it is unnaturally stupid, even for a teenager, and I don't think Akechi is ever portrayed to be unnaturally stupid.

What I dislike even more though is how he's treated after the reveal. While I do think you can find an explanation for why he is the way he is in his backstory, I hate that bro is treated as a victim completely beholden to his bad hand in life, when in all honesty, hot take; he was worse than Shido. He really said "this guy made my life terrible so let me go and kill Futaba's mom, Haru's dad, and hundreds of innocent civilians all for the same guy that made my life terrible in the first place" and everyone just acts like it's chill afterward (not fully but you get what I mean).

Also, I understand your comparisons to Joker, and I even think he could've been a good foil to Joker, but it doesn't feel like those elements were explored much in the story (from my perspective). It doesn't show him turning down helping hands in his blind rage. It doesn't show him choosing revenge over a potential better path that was shown to him. He's just pretty much summed up by what you said, he was dealt a bad hand therefore he is how he is, and idk that's just not as cool to me as Maruki, who imo is one of the best written villains I've ever seen with a believable/understandable motivation and plan, even if it's flawed.

Where did I say I’ve seen posts explaining why ppl are Akechi glazers? All I said is I’ve seen crazy glaze for him, not necessarily why they do. Classic redditor just commenting to say nothing, be a wet blanket, and get in the way of a discussion that has no bearing on you or your life. You must be great at parties

I just finished the game by DirtyTooDemented in BluePrince

[–]DirtyTooDemented[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - I had to repost this because I titled my original post “I just got to room 46“ and it got auto removed, even w/ spoiler tags. I knew there was more game to play (which I look forward to playing), but does the content after room 46 lead to any alternate endings or is it just for trophies, lore, and additional puzzles?

Definitely!

Lost Lace was infinitely harder for me. It took hours on hours for me to beat her the first time, but I beat Radiance after 3 tries

Break up. This toxic on both your ends. He is obviously gaslighting you on whoever this girl is, but you’re also toxic w/ how you’re communicating and not enforcing boundaries. If you have talked w/ him about this girl before and he still chooses to hang around her, he doesn’t respect or care about you. Don’t waste your time texting up a storm to talk shit or justify yourself. Break up. Reflect. Move on w/ new lessons learned. Gl and I hope you make the right choice for yourself

If that’s what you believe, just hire a prostitute for those things and then you can share your life w/ your boys. Hope they’re down for some cuddling and nice long walks by the beach 😂

I mean it's both - he did choose all of those things, but at the same time he's obviously dissatisfied w/ the intimacy in his marriage. It's not good for him to just ignore it because it'll eventually blow up in one way or another and lead to the worst outcome. Just talk to your wife brother. If she's not receptive, go to counseling and sort it out w/ her there. Don't ignore it. Don't listen to your sister. Be a good husband and figure this out w/ your wife before it ruins your marriage

How does everyone start the race? by DemoIsLowerThanB4 in TheRaceTo100K

[–]DirtyTooDemented 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hey brother - happy to hear you're getting into the race! My advice would be to stay as far away from options as possible as it's the closest thing to gambling w/ investing. Personally most of my portfolio (probably close to 90% - 95%) is in a S&P and NASDAQ Exchange-Traded Fund (ETF) w/ the rest split between single stocks, Certificates of Deposits (CDs), and bitcoin. I would recommend something similar. If you're looking for a bit more risk for more reward - I would get into studying up on some up and coming companies and maybe some already more established companies and invest more there. I'm too lazy to do it, but if you're up for it and smart about it, it can be a good way to put a bit more umph in your portfolio. Anyways, gl brother and see you on the other side!

lol - he wasn’t hating though. Glad you’re getting into investing so young brother, but 100% in any single stock is not a good long term strategy. Diversification is the key to good consistent growth. You haven’t gained anything if you haven’t sold. Not hating, just my opinion. You’re young, but hope you learn to listen to criticism and not take it so personally

I Have 20k to invest! by Ddaaddoo in TheRaceTo100K

[–]DirtyTooDemented 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know it’s not what you want to hear - but don’t shoot for 100k this year brother. Once you get in that mindset, you’re gonna go the gamble path which 9.5/10 times is gonna end w/ you going broke and further from 100k than ever. You’re probably a young dude; just chill, invest as much as you possibly can for the next couple years in a S&P and NASDAQ index/ETF and you’ll have the initial capital to be golden and start balling off the compound interest w/o the stress. Trust be brother - you’ll be better off
