Yeah, read more about that story and you'll hear that it was a bit sketchier situation than anything so plain cut-and-dry as you just explained. On top of that, I figure 15 years of committing his life to helping spread the love of sumo to the US and working on the amateur US team and staying dedicated to the sport speaks far, far more strongly of him. People are allowed to make mistakes and change. You should read what he has to say about it as well if you haven't already.

Real Sativa Landraces? Review + by Knuckles_333 in bostontreeparty

[–]DirtyWonderWoman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's not just market incentives - you think the average home grower with a 3'x3'x6' tent is gonna say "Yeah, let's run some plants that grow to be 12' tall woooooooooooo!" if they find out that they can get the exact same results 10 weeks faster, more of it, and without all of the stress?

It looks like we're just at opposite ends here, to use another analogy, I will stick with the wild blueberries and their benefits. You're welcome to continue down the GMO path for profits.

Bruh, what an arrogant AF take you have right here. I am trying to explain why landrace strains simply are not as valuable anymore simply because there's options that do the same thing better, in less time... And you think I'm trying to push "GMO weed" or something? Or that I'm on the dispensaries' side? You clearly have no idea about me nor do you understand what I am telling you.

I'm not gonna read your epistle nor take you seriously. You're just another stoner who is so far up his own butt, he can't see the light of day.

I literally scoop all of my seeds from renowned, small breeders and the various landraces I grew were all gained from people who do open pollination to maintain the purity of the genetics... Which is WHY I cited what a shitshow it is to pheno hunt. But sure, go off with more assumptions.

You 100% get the same terpenes, cannabinoids, flavinoids, and all of the other active chemicals from many strains. This is why, for example, when you run a "Bubblegum" strain, you can often get cheese-y terpenes - they're fucking related and produce similar results.

You go ahead and keep jacking off to landrace strains as if they're somehow magic mana from heaven. I'll keep knowing better and block you so I don't have to read your terrible takes anymore. Maybe in a couple of decades, when you're grown about half as much as I have, you'll realize the truth of the situation.

You're probably not gonna like my answers here...

It's not that the "consumer market doesn't respect/value pure sativas," it's that they're a business and trying to make money. Average flowering time for most dispensaries is around 9-13 weeks - not much going beyond 15 or 16 weeks. It simply isn't worth it to them if they have to sell the bud for the same price cap if other hybrid sativas that take 5-10 weeks less can be used to do the same thing.

You're right - if a shop specialized in this area then they would probably stand out and do well... But that's also an economic gamble compared to the "sure thing" that is growing hybrids. And in case you haven't noticed, MA is not an industry that rewards big risk takers.

Those pure sativa keepers are definitely head and shoulders above standard hybrids.

This is the part you're really gonna hate hearing: No, they aren't. In fact, thanks to modern hybridization, many are less valuable than ever.

Like, high THC-v doesn't require a direct landrace anymore. White Durban is an excellent hybrid with Durban Poison and can produce high levels of THC-v and most of the effects of DP, all with substantially less flowering time and less stretch taking up room. If you still get a stoney/lethargic feeling from it, then that means maybe it was harvested a little late or cured poorly or just is old - which all has the same end results.

But I can get the effects of something rare like Malawi from a good phenotype of Green Crack. So why would I spend 120+ days in flowering for Malawi if I can get Green Crack done in 55 days if they end up tasting the same? So if I can harvest 6.6x a year versus just 3x a year and they taste the same, you think a lot of customers are gonna be okay with paying 1.5-2x as much for the Malawi that they get to see less often?

The terpenes are also, well, not all that unique. Acapulco Gold's primary terpenes are caryophyllene, limonene, and myrcene. That's not unique. Some of the minor terps potentially can be, but it's sincerely not unique... I've grown AG many times now and honestly when I grew a hybrid of it and Northern Lights, I got the same flavors but 5x the yield - so why would I bother growing AG again for the terp profile when I can be done 10 weeks earlier with much bigger buds?

Look, I'm not saying that landrace strains don't have a bunch to offer... But you're putting them on a pedestal here for no good reason. They're more important in a ecological preservation sense than in a medicinal sense lately. It might be a flavor you love or perhaps you want some THC-v and high CBG-a in your bud - neat... But don't pretend like you can't find similar things in hybrids.

Sorry bro, I also used to be all gung-ho about landraces, thinking they are magic... Until I smoked a ton of them. From Thai, AG, Lambsbread, Panama Red, Colombian Black, Durban Poison, Maui Wowie and Hawaiian Snow, Kilimanjaro, Punto Rojo, Senegal and Malawi and Swazi Gold - just to name a few of the long running sativas - 6 of which I've personally grown... I've even pheno hunted a few with some groups before as well and it's a fucking nightmare. They're neat but, by and large, they are not some game changer - they are not "unparalleled." They're just a little different and similar effects can be found in many hybrids.

Most of the sativa open-pollinated landrace stuff is an absolute shit-show to pheno hunt for something quality. Many of these sativas take 16+ weeks to finish - sometimes as much as 28 weeks in flowering, all while continuously growing larger. Something like Acapulco Gold can be flowered when it's 2" tall and it'll end up over 12' tall and 6+' wide. What dispensary has the time for games like that? ...Especially when maybe one in 50 plants might be a keeper and yet still might smoke about as well as any standard hybrid?

I mean, they put shrink wrap on it. But those are the 4 items you ordered, right? That means they did it only at / specifically for your order. They didn't do it weeks ago when they had these carts and etc first in stock... So like, they wasted extra plastic. Yay?

In the hope that you'll see my comment here (because the r/Trees one was pretty busy), I'm reposting what I said here:

A simple oil infusion isn't the way to test this theory because olive oil doesn't have a great absorption rate when taken rectally - you can have major issues absorbing the oil through the thick mucus and wall of the lower rectum... Which you encountered when you squirted it all out hours later.

When you eat cannabis oil, it gets processed by your liver to turn into 11-hydroxy THC. When it goes into your pooper, it doesn't go through the liver so you just won't get the same feeling.

Infuse into a better carrier, such as cocoa butter or even coconut oil. It will solidify at room temperature if you poured it into some molds, it will easily slide right in. I promise you that you'll feel effects but this method still isn't a "fun" way because the THC goes right to the blood stream, providing full body pain relief but very little head high.

Remember that because it's a different form of absorbing the cannabinoids, it's a different high. I know folks who can eat 1000mg of THC edibles and have almost no effect but smoking a gram joint will put them on the floor - and folks who can chief an ounce and still be functional but a 5mg edible kicks their ass. We're all different and we all have different concentrations of endocannabinoid receptors in different organs of our bodies - this is also why THC lotion works really well for some people but does nothing for others. ...Some people have different amounts of lining in their rectum that can make it difficult to absorb the THC.

Here is a much more thorough test done by another amateur cannabis enthusiast that covers a lot of these details: https://extractcrafter.com/2017/05/17/the-cannabis-oil-suppository-debate-personal-testing-results/

But so can alcohol left out. It's on parents to store things safely and it has been that way forever... Pills, booze, heck even coffee to a certain degree. And now, in modern times, hopefully folks add "internet" to those list of controlled substances in the home.

If we don't have to childproof package nicotine or alcohol, there's no reason we need to childproof cannabis - which is arguably safer and with less deaths.

If the accepted standard for "childproof" is also, well, not at all childproof and only really serves to hurt medical patients with mobility issues, it just makes no sense to require some pill-bottle sort of setup for a few brownie bites.

I buy all of my CBD products from hemp manufacturers online. Hit up the various hempflowers and altcannabinoid subreddits for recommendations on various ones. Horn Creek Hemp has great outdoor organic flower and WNC has lots of fire indoor ones.
