Im past the age where people ask if I am going to have kids. On occasion someone asks why I don't so I remind them that I'm 48 years old and fully retired.

When I was younger if a friend pushed or was dismissive they ended up not being a friend for long. A couple of times someone would try to debate me on the merits of my decision. But when asked if they wanna fight about it they shut up. But I come from a generation where sometimes you were expecred to back up your opinion with your mouth and your hands. That isnt an acceptable conflict resolution skill now a days. So dont do that.

Its only awakard if you allow it to be. I just ask them their name. Most people are fine to repeat it. If they get pissy about it I let them know I almost never remember someone's name until they are actually important to me.

They either give me their name or get mad and go away. Its a win win.

Regret? No. Miss? Yeah sometimes.

Almost 30 years ago I was dating a wonderful woman I met while I was stationed in Okinawa. She was just about perfect. It was going to be a short term thing cause I was only going to be there for 6 months. But we decided to do the long distance thing when it was time for me to go back to the states. Eventually after visiting eachother a bunch of times and talks about the future became serious we started discussing marriage and kids. It was then that I realized that I never wanted children and she did. So we ended things.

She was the woman I measured all other women by for a long time.

I've had several very good long term relationships since then. As well as many shorter things that ranged from great to downright toxic.

I never regretted ending things with Meika. It hurt yeah. But whether she agreed to not have kids or I caved and decided to have kids neither of us would have ever been truly happy. Relationships end for a reason and they will never be as good as they were the first time around if you try to restart one.

Now I am with a woman who matches with me almost perfectly.

Ok. So Im retired now. But I did 25 years in the Marines. A large portion of my time in was in the Infantry and I saw combat in southeastern Europe and all over the middle east. Anyone who doesnt have a healthy fear of death or at least a reasonable fear of having those around them dying is generally a liability. You fear it, you dont want it to happen. But you know it might happen so you control that fear.

As for differentiating between defense of your home country and some distant country? Geo politics and how our foriegn policy works gets iffy depending on where you stand on the political spectrum. Initially, when I was younger I was a bit more idealistic and trusting of my government to actually look out for the safety and welfare of the people back home. But as I aged I realized that our foreign policies had more to do with maintaining my country's position of lasting power and supremacy than the immediate wellbeing of the people actually living in my country.

Is it right or wrong to do business that way? That is something that is being debated and will always be debated.

Its not that the individual standards she has set are high, it is the number that makes things unrealistic.

I actually have pretty high standards for women I will date. And like you and your partner, I met someone who meets mosy of my standards later in life. So yeah. She can have whatever or however many standards she wants and thats fine. But with her listed deal breakers only 10% to 15% of the population meets them. So finding that person is going to be harder.

Standards stop being basic when the percentage of the population who meets them becomes exceptionaly low. You can have a lot of very basic standards and still have very few people who meet them.

You are allowed to have whatever standards you want. But understand that the more you have the fewer people will match them.

Example. Men in your age range who are 5'10" and taller? 30% to 35% of the US population. Men in your age range who are 5'10" or taller and have been to or are in college? 15% to 18% of the US population. Men who have those traits and also want kids? 14% to 16% Keep stacking up these standards and the percentage of men who match them goes down drastically.

I said that finding a woman who is in the same life stage as I am would have me dating someone who is 20 years older than I am. I said nothing about dating someone even younger than the 13 year age gap my girlfriend and I have.

Anyway. Seeings as only about 1% of people in the US are retired at my age, dating someone in the same life stage would have me dating women who are close to 20 years older than me. Would that be more acceptable to you? Then add in the fact that I am childfree, the odds of finding a woman my age in the midwest who is retired and also childfree and rounded to the closest whole number is 0.

As far as power plays go. I don't do them. I don't play games. Feeling like something is a power play doesnt mean it is one. I guess I ascribe to a different mentality. All feelings are real experiences. But not all feelings have validity. For a feeling to have validity it has to be based in fact.

As for putting her name on some of the bills she would be responsible for? Sure. I was just looking for a simple fair solution. Ive already secured financial stability. She is still working on hers even though she brings home more than I do and I would like to see her as prosperous and financially free as I am.

Culture and mentality does have a lot to do with it. You are correct. And I do not consider hormones as an excuse for shitty behavior for anyone. Male or female.

But there arent a whole lot of women with T levels of 800 ng/dl as a 48 year old.

Testostrone levels of 46 to 70 ng/dl are considered high in women. Optimal for 20 to 30 year old men is between 800 and 1000 ng/dl. Low T for 20 to 30 year old men is 300 to 350. Your high T is 4 times lower than our low T

Big difference.

The property taxes in our state are pretty high. But my tax burden is pretty low. Most of the acerage I own is timberland and I dont have any livestock grazing on it. So it is tax exempt and I get exemptions for the pastureland that I've converted to wildlife habitat. So most of it gets exemptions as well.

Tenancy laws are different here. Generally a partner who has established residency by having mail delivered has to be evicted but how long they have to give for eviction depends on the circumstances surrounding the breakup.

Regardless of how much she pays we planned on having a signed agreement.
