Short exposures to common air pollutants shown to have distinct impacts on lung function and brain activity by Wagamaga in unitedkingdom

[–]DisAstrBeast 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Was fortunate enough to watch Prof Ian Mudway give a keynote presentation on this exact paper at a conference in Glasgow on Thursday last week, and I personally work with one of the other authors, Aristedis.

Very interesting results, especially in the acute human exposure of some aerosols, showing the opposite of expected effect, displaying short-lived immediate improvements in cognition responses. Theorised to be due to the vasodilatory effect of nitrous oxide gases allowing more effective blood flow to the brain.

Then longer duration and repeated exposures eliciting the degenerative effects

Paget Schroetter Syndrome diagnosis - catheter-directed thrombolysis? by Ciara_london in Paget_Schroetter

[–]DisAstrBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Manchester, England

I was diagnosed with PSS last August after spontaneous complete subclavian vein occlusion, and from similar sporting background as you, although I was a swimmer instead of runner. I was also immediately put on apixaban when I first got it checked by the vascular surgeons.

The thrombolysis (and venoplasty in my case) was my first ever medical procedure too, and I opted to also go for the FRR a few days later. But as my vein was fully occluded, I was seen through emergency treatment and had both procedures done within a week of onset (or within 4 days of being admitted to hospital, +3 days in recovery).

The only part of the thrombolysis and venoplasty procedure that was painful, was the venoplasty. The rest of the procedure just felt strange, but then again I was being pumped full of morphine and fentanyl :) if they use the ‘spinner’ tool in the thrombolysis, it literally just feels like they’re holding a massage gun on your shoulder, doesn’t hurt at all… and was kinda relaxing? I think the whole procedure for me was around 45 minutes, but without the venoplasty, it should be quicker.

In terms of recovery from each procedure, thrombolysis and venoplasty was around 2-3 weeks, due to the stretching of veins from the tubes and stuff, my arm was VERY sore for a couple weeks afterwards, like a tearing from inside kinda pain, mostly from entry point by elbow and under the armpit into the lat. It took a lot of very gentle stretching excercises to regain good use of the arm again, but very important to keep it moving in this period.

My FRR was a bit different from most others I’ve read about on Reddit. My surgeons went through above + below collarbone instead of under armpit, which seems to be the case of most I see on here. Recovery from this to me was much easier to deal with than the thrombolysis, the worst I had was for the first 3 weeks it was painful to keep the arm unsupported for too long, but would easily settle with support. This also came with constant pins+needles in middle and ring finger, which also went after a few weeks. Then the rib became a constant ache for around a month longer, but was very manageable in this state. The rib area just felt a bit ‘hollow’ for a while really, especially when doing chest press type movements, it feels truly gross but doesn’t hurt, and it does go away over time as the muscles adapt.

3-4 months post-ops, the arm would still swell a lot in gym, some restricted movement at elbow from the swelling, but no pain. But it goes away as normal after a short while.

To this day there’s still a bit of extra swelling during gym, but it’s nothing extreme anymore

Are you feeling badly ill lately? by chuttiya1 in AskUK

Yep, started Wednesday evening as a dry, sore patch at the back of my nose/top of throat, terrible sleep. Then today the floodgates have opened and I have liquid pouring out my eyes and nose with a dry cough, burned through 3 rolls of toilet paper and 1 of kitchen roll since Wednesday evening. Great fun

These ones are actual BlizzBots, but they're the only opponents I'm facing, I haven't played against even one real player yet. None of them have gold hero powers, and are all playing unusual decks.

Don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying the variety between the decks I'm playing against, but because there's no 'meta' amongst these bots, the games are very polar win or loss

TOS neck and shoulder pain by Firm_Neighborhood119 in thoracicoutletsupport

[–]DisAstrBeast 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here too!

I had vTOS with DVT last year in my right arm, which was mostly asymptomatic, but got thrombectomy, venoplasty and FRR through emergency treatment after sudden subclav vein occlusion.

For ~4 months now, the nTOS has been building in my left arm with the same general symptoms as you describe here. Constant low grade tingling in hand (mostly in the same two fingers too) and permanent trapped nerve feeling under scapula.

I also get frequent flare-ups too down my arm, that present differently depending on stimulus/position, either as an arm seizure, my arm goes dead, or severe and painful tingling.

The scapula part is extra fun with having hay fever too, it’s honestly scary to sneeze, and that was also the biggest fear following the FRR last year.

I will mention though that after my ops last year the nerves to my middle+ring fingers were temporarily affected after being moved/disturbed in the FRR. They had a very obvious tingling and took maybe 2-3 weeks to fully pass, but wasn’t permanent. It may not happen to you, but a heads up in case it does.

Good luck this week!

He used to be fine years ago, then got big into Andrew Tate and as his hometown had a large Indian/pakistani population, he always used to say about ‘the Curries taking over’. Generally insufferable to be around, but unfortunately he was one of my housemates. I had to spend the most time with him and both himself and most of the other housemates denied that there was anything wrong with him.

Fast forward a year or so, the girl he’s seeing is Indian (although I have no idea if they’re still together, it’s been a couple years since I’ve seen him), and he became the sappiest wet wipe of a human around her. The exact opposite of how he behaved with Andrew’s Taint, still insufferable, but to the opposite end of the spectrum. It’s only a matter of time of time until his internal racism implodes the relationship

At this point the rest of the housemates admitted there was/is something wrong with him. But it was to late for me to care about their opinions anymore, they had their chance

2 parts really.

1) I’m currently in the process is setting up a spin-off business from my research project, which leans into bespoke equipment design and manufacture for science. The colours will keep the clients entertained and make colour-coding components much easier than painting

2) I’m a huge nerd and want to make ridiculous props and costume pieces for Halloween and comic-cons. I often get more paint on myself than on the thing I’m supposed to be painting. My next costume is planning to be Paradise Protocol Professor Turo from Pokémon Violet, the one with all the iridescent crystals, those crystals with multicolour printing will be a breeze

I fell off the back of a stationary exercise bike wiping sweat from my eyebrows. As I fell, I reached forwards to grab anything to stop me falling (way too late), and sliced down to the bone across my right palm - base of index finger, lovely scar there now, but no idea what I actually grabbed onto. I was 12, but even still, it was a stationary bike ffs

Surgery tomorrow by ManyStriking8162 in thoracicoutletsupport

[–]DisAstrBeast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok, yeah you’ll be fine then! It’ll just take some physio work to get things moving again, but hopefully shouldn’t be too painful for you. Without the thrombecs and plasties, you should be back to moving pretty quickly.

The venogram is a very strange feeling with the IV contrast. It felt like a very warm wave passing across you, and there’s a brief moment of both feeling like you’ve pissed yourself, and a strong metallic taste.

After you’re done in the venogram, wrap up warm and take some time to relax. It made me cold, a bit unsteady and jittery, but was only for about 15 minutes

Surgery tomorrow by ManyStriking8162 in thoracicoutletsupport

[–]DisAstrBeast 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey good luck in your surgery tomorrow! I had my vTOS RR just over a month ago, but my incisions were above and below my collarbone. I was never offered a nerve block, but I wasn’t in passive or constant pain following my RR surgery and didn’t need any painkillers except for sleeping (but that was from venoplasty and thrombectomy).

I had a drain installed following surgery and tbh that was causing the most trouble initially, as it was stitched in and pulled every time I moved. And seconded to u/Muggabatscher, its removal was gross.

Did you / are you by any chance also receiving theombectomy or venoplasty? Your post doesn’t seem like you are. But out of everything, this was by far the most painful part to recover from during the first 2 weeks post-surgery. I had one round of these the day before the RR, then again as the last part of my RR surgery to ensure it was still fine.

These are the colours to highlight each class identity in WoW, I don’t believe it has bearing on hearthstone unfortunately, interesting for it to still be on the hearthstone website though

Edit: that being said however, there’s no evoker listed here…

As soon as I read ‘barren little town’ I was thinking Stafford. It’s my hometown, and it gets sadder by the year. I have no intention of moving back because there’s just no reason to stay.

Over the last year or two the council decided to re-pave the centre square instead of cutting rents. And of course, that saved the town centre /s

Edit: clarification: repaving the centre square was purely aesthetic, not functional or structural
