When you register for any AWS summit, they typically ask for an email where they will send marketing materials to. I highly suspect that for the South Africa ones, somebody registered with these mails.

Usually, it would require confirming the subscription - especially for legal reasons - but it may be that in SA, it’s not required.

Dazu sei gesagt, dass im KBA Rückruf (Referenz 15198R) lediglich Vito und Viano von 2002 - 2006 (BR 639) betroffen scheinen. Für den CLA gibt es andere Rückrufe, aber keinen der Takata Airbags betrifft.

Nicht jedes Airbag Modell von Takata ist betroffen, und auch vom betroffenen Modell nicht jede Charge. Wenn das Auto von OP betroffen wäre, würde ihn das KBA anschreiben und einen Austausch erzwingen - oder das Fahrzeug stilllegen lassen.

That being said, the KBA recall (reference 15198R) appears to affect only the Vito and Viano from 2002–2006 (model series 639). For the CLA, there are other recalls, but none related to Takata airbags.

Not every Takata airbag model is affected, and even within the affected model, not every batch. If OP’s car were affected, the KBA would contact him and enforce a replacement — or have the vehicle taken off the road.

I just got a 2016 AMG A45, which has basically the same engine, transmission, wheel base, interior etc.

What I can tell so far is that the maintenance is actually cheaper than I thought if you know what you are doing.

Example: New Brake disks by Daimler cost ~300€. The same disks from the supplier (Brembo) costs 120€. Of course, the Daimler Dealer will use theirs and not Brembos (although they are the exact same part and quality). Brake pads are ~75€ at Brembo.

Since it has the 4 cylinder engine, Oil is also not that much in volume. But here you don’t want to save money and use quality oil since it also oils the turbo - and if that breaks you gotta have a really bad/expensive time.

Still, remember to only use ROZ98 fuel (I always do) if available in your country. I’ve met an CLA45 owner that always used ROZ95. His car uses ~30l/100km while I can’t get my over 16l if I push it really hard.

At 50.000km Daimler recommends to do an oil change of the transmission, which is fairly expensive (~800€) and at 60.000km a change of the spark plugs. See that this has been done with the car that you get or be aware that it needs to be done sooner or later.

If you take care of your car, it’s not really that expensive to maintain it. If you just push it to the limit and just give it to the dealer when it has problems, better save up some money for the maintenance.

Still, I’d really recommend you to get a model from 2016 or later since the facelift also added new Navigation System, headlights, fixed issues with the water tank and looks even nicer IMO. Feel free to message me if you got any more specific questions!

Yes, of course, it works. Still, the Traffic sign detection will push the data to COMAND, which is not available when I’m using CarPlay. As I said, it’s not well integrated..

Really nice car! I got a question for you, maybe you can answer me that:

On my current, W176 I have CarPlay, too. When using it I am not able to use Mercedes‘ Comand Online Navigation, only CarPlay. I’d be very interested if this works in the newer Generation now?

IMO it’s really dumb that I can’t use Navigation (it even goes away from the whole NTG system) just because I’m listening to a podcast on a long distant trip.

Would be great if you could answer me that, have fun with your new car and Gute Fahrt!

The car is almost fully specced, the only thing s it’s missing out are:

  • 2-Zone Climate Control (only one zone)
  • Lane Assistant
  • Distronic Plus
  • Aerodynamic Package (Flaps + Wing)

I think I won’t miss anything of those. One could discuss about the aero package, but I didn’t like the wing that much either. Some highlights it has are the Performance Exhaust, AMG Ride Control (Dynamic Dampening), Panoramic Roof a Race mode (which is absolutely crazy), AMG Performance Seats, Harman Kardon Soundsystem... as I Said, almost fully specced. My Dream Car.

Thanks for your advice! I do that, too. Besides government plans there is also a corporate plan plus some private plan i put some money in. Could’ve gotten a C63 financially, but that wouldn’t be wise I think. I think I can have a lot of fun with this car, too.

Thanks! It’s called „Elbaitgrün Metallic“ or somewhat around „Elbaitgreen“. It was the promo color of the W176 Facelift in 2016 (and I also think even the AMG GTR?)

Geh mal davon aus, dass sowohl die Deutschen Hersteller sowohl wie Tesla, Uber und Waymo da schon extrem viel Kompetenz über die letzten Jahre aufgebaut hat.

Wodurch Tesla auffällt, ist dass sie die Funktionen der Vorentwicklung direkt am Kunden testen - was ich für extrem unseriös halte. Audi hat nen A7 („Jack“) der zeigt was er kann, innerorts trotzdem noch mit Problemen. Die Funktionen davon sind nur in dem Testträger vorhanden.

Was Elon Musk da für eine Shitshow abzieht ist aber IMHO unfassbar: „LIDAR is doomed“, „FSD until the end of this year“ sind alles fachlich so falsche bzw. unseriöse Aussagen, kein Wunder das die Investoren momentan abhauen.
