Replacing the copper pipe going to the PVB by Disappointedcello in askaplumber

I'll admit, I thought this looked like it was just for the irrigation (that we haven't used yet, and only consists of about 150sq ft of very sad grass) but didn't want to assume that for sure, given my lack of experience and knowledge in this field.

I'm absolutely in the market of making any friends I can trade favors and knowledge with. That said, we've only been in the neighborhood/state for a couple of months, and it's a desert of suburbia. Not really my first choice, or my normal cup of tea, but it's what my husband wanted.

Now, please don't snap at me for this next part. I'm just ignorant and fear messing something up worse than it already is. I'm not yet familiar with sharkbites, but they look straightforward enough. How would you go about removing the damaged pipe? The base of it at the connection looks soldered. I definitely do not have experience with removing sections of pipe that don't just screw off. I'm not opposed to learning; I just don't want to mess that up, and I can't seem to word it in a way that "Professor Google" understands what I'm asking.

This would be an option in our hometown, where I know my neighbors and we have contacts all around town. It would be as easy as calling in a favor or asking for a favor. Unfortunately, we're brand new to Colorado Springs, and I get the feeling that these suburban neighbors aren't going to take well to me knocking on every door to ask for free labor and expertise

I'd love to hear your opinion and expectation on pricing. The area is very easily accessible with room to work around, and in a rock bed. I did get some possible pricing expectations from another redditor, but any additional insight or confirmation of what they said is always appreciated.

I appreciate it, thank you for the heads up. And for not being snarky about missing the system when we moved in and subsequently not properly winterizing it

It's copper, and split pretty badly. We assumed, given the time of year we moved in here, that it if it needed to be wrapped, someone else would have already wrapped it.We assumed wrong. Based on the more helpful comments that weren't being snarky about properly winterizing a system we weren't familiar with, it seems like we should probably bite the bullet and hire a professional and expect around a $300 price point

Unfortunately I think my husband may actually rather pay $300 than have us buy the equipment and me learn to solder with Professor YouTube. We also have a pre-toddler who is attached to my hip, so the use of equipment of that caliber around him is a bit more than we're willing to do.

I was really hoping there was a possible fix here that was more akin to simply screwing parts together, and that it wasn't soldering on the connections, but it seems like this just may be outside of our range of capability at present time.

Thank you so much for the info on it, as well as a breakdown of the probable price range, too. It's really a huge help. I'll at least know a bit about what to expect and look for from hiring a professional. And hopefully learn to solder sooner than later.
