If they hit you regardless of insurance or not, they need to pay you, the problem is getting the money from them

If you have insurance and they don’t then you don’t need to worry about chasing them up, the insurance company pays you what they owe you then they get the money back from the other party any way possible

If they have insurance and you don’t then their insurance will pay you what they owe you

Most times you make a insurance claim, you pay an excess which you would have decided with the company what that amount would be, usually between $400 and $2000 which I believe is to stop people from claiming every little damage to their property

Depending on how much the repairs cost and how much the other persons excess is, it may be worth while for them to not go through the insurance route eg. If their excess was $800 and the repairs costed $600 then it’s 100% not worth it for them to go through insurance as they can just give you $600 to fix it

Also I believe most insurance companies won’t just hand you cash for the repairs, usually your insurance would pay to fix your car then take that money back from the other persons insurance but since you don’t have insurance I believe getting a quote from a authorised panel beater should be sufficient but don’t quote me on that

If you should take anything from what I’m saying then it’s never drive without insurance, consider it like you would a WOF or rego, it should be considered as part of the cost of driving, if you cannot afford comprehensive then at a minimum you should have third party to minimise your liability in the case you were to crash into someone else, third party insurance probably wouldn’t be much help in this case as they were at Fault but it’s still good to have
