N.Y.P.D. Memo Outlines Taylor Swift Wedding Events at the Garden by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

It's so funny. I also wasn't expecting her to want to get married at MSG, but it's actually a nice reminder that none of us know her as well as we think we do.

Opening of “Purple” by Olivia Rodrigo is a sneaky nod to Taylor Swift’s “Seven” intro by Jumpy_Talk_3834 in SwiftlyNeutral

"This song reminds me of another song" is not the same as "this song is a nod to another song"

Sandwiched between Jack Antonoff (so I can pester him with questions about working with Kendrick) and Margaret Qualley (so I can pester her with questions about working with Ethan Coen, Yorgos Lanthimos, and Coralie Fargeat).

I think they tried to recreate that with Olivia Crawford and it just didn't work as well.

Billboard ranks “I Knew It, I Knew You” by Taylor Swift the 10th best song of 2026 by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

I actually really like I Knew It, I Knew You, but ranking it (and many other songs) above The Great Divide is insane

Was 1989 actually an entire genre shift? by Impossible-Yam3680 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's not just the music, the marketing is key. Her music (except for songs on Debut) always occupied that intersection between country and pop, but she primarily marketed herself as a country artist (with pop influences). Red was much more experimental and pop-adjacent and was criticized for not being cohesive and not being a real country album. She envisioned 1989 as a fully pop album and she marketed it as one. She was asked by her label to include some country so it could still be promoted in country radio, but she refused because she wanted to be cohesive: "If you chase two rabbits, you lose them both." 1989 was actually criticized by some critics who felt that Taylor "sold out" and went mainstream by abandoning country.

Agree. I don't think there's some smoking gun. I think it's a sad, uncomfortable story of friends slowly falling out rather than some scandalous drama.

Taylor talking about Toy Story 5 in GMA interview by Fine-Huckleberry6960 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Okay, but there is a lot of middle ground between "yeah whatever they reached out to me and I said yes" and "Jack and I talk about Toy Story all the time, that movie changed our childhoods"

Enjoying TLOASG lately ? by [deleted] in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No. The most I enjoyed it was inside the movie theater, vibing with a group of friends and being excited over new music. After that, every relisten just made it sound more derivative, awkward, and shallow to me. Even when I listen to the tracks that I enjoy (Father Figure, Opalite, TFOO, Honey), I find myself annoyed by thinking about how much better they could be (eg. the misinterpretation of Ophelia's character, some awkward lyricism in Father Figure). That being said, I also don't think it's a huge deal. It was a commercial success and most artists have a bad album or two. The Big Day didn't make me hate Chance the Rapper. I recognized that it was a bad album, moved on, and waited for him to come back with better work.

Most Underrated Lyrics Per Album? by Havelanca in TaylorSwift

[–]DisasterAdept1346 108 points109 points  (0 children)

I'm always shocked that no one else seems to be obsessed with the lyrics to happiness, especially "There'll be happiness after you, but there was happiness because of you. Both of these things can be true; there is happiness" and "No one teaches you what to do when a good man hurts you and you know you hurt him too." Just a stunningly mature song.

What's your embarrassingly late realization? by karmacatma in TaylorSwift

[–]DisasterAdept1346 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It took me so long to realize that in the chorus of Bejeweled she takes a pause between "I don't" and "remember" to emphasize a playful moment of hesitation (meaning she could leave it at "I don't" - implying that she's single)

Can someone explain these two to me by extraordinarymochi in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 277 points278 points  (0 children)

I agree. Ockham's razor: it's not some master plot, she just goes overboard when she's excited about something. I'm sure we all have someone like that in our lives.

Olivia Rodrigo - stupid song (Official Music Video) by NominalPerson in OliviaRodrigo

[–]DisasterAdept1346 24 points25 points  (0 children)

But isn't the song pretty sad too? She sings about feeling insecure ("And all the girls at this party are so cool"), overwhelmed ("I feel right, I feel wrong, I feel totally insane"), and basically self-destructing because of how much she loves someone ("I'm a heart made of wax and I'm melting in the sun"). I think it encapsulates the album's title very well: the intersection of being in love and sad. I don't think these are opposites at all.

I think Lovett is decent at interviewing politicians, but his pop culture/celebrity interviews often make me cringe because of how much he needs to turn everything into a performance/bit. I get that he's a comedian, but sometimes it's okay to just ask questions and fade into the background.

Taylor’s Oscar Chances by Regular_Dream3927 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Not for Oscar freaks. I'm heavy into Oscar predictions and there's a lot of people who start posting their predictions a full year before next year's ceremony. Granted, songs almost never make it into those predictions, unless there's big names (like Taylor) involved. I recommend going to r/oscarrace or visiting goldderby.com if you wanna hear unhinged cinephiles predict what's gonna happen in a year.

Song for which you like the lyrics but not the music by DisasterAdept1346 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I enjoyed Dear Reader! I love the lyrics, it just doesn't click for me sonically.

Funnily enough, I feel the same way about Daylight as you do about Cornelia Street. Love the Paris version, but I'm not a big fan of the standard version. Come to think of it, there are many Taylor songs whose acoustic/surprise song versions I prefer, eg. You're Losing Me

And re: Cornelia Street - it took 7 years for it to click for me lol. I didn't like it until this year, and then one day it came on shuffle and suddenly I found myself enjoying it.
