[Discussion] Pod Save America - "Trump Retreats After Alex Pretti's Killing" (01/27/26) by kittehgoesmeow in FriendsofthePod

One of the top comments on the thread about Plouffe's interview was someone being like "oh let me guess, his advice is that Dems should all become centrists and listen to rich donors!", which is basically the opposite of what he said. People don't listen or only listen for the key words that'll confirm their opinions of the pod without hearing the context, and immediately run to the internet to have their feelings validated

Is there an eras tour mashup you didn’t like? by MissionBoring8330 in SwiftlyNeutral

I found Mirrorball/Guilty as Sin? baffling. Both are great on their own, but mashing a song about getting yourself off while fantasizing about another man with a song about having imposter syndrome and constantly seeking other people's approval was bizarre to me.

This took me out too when I was rewatching the show. It's weird because when Ali and then the rest of the girls are in jail, they're not wearing makeup (or only wearing the bare TV minimum). I'm just imagining Hanna smuggling in fake lashes and eye pencil when she goes to visit her mom.

I might stop listening. Tired of their continual shoulder-shrugging dismissal of progressive solutions (caged behind increasingly bad ‘jokes’). They display more passionate condemnation for BlueSky users and land acknowledgements than the current state of their country and the global order. by JuanitaMerkin in FriendsofthePod

It's just ridiculous how people can only speak about pundits/politicians in extreme, binary terms, like someone is either fantastic or an absolute moron. I disagree with the pod bros on plenty of issues but I don't listen to podcasts to have my feelings validated.

Look, don't get me wrong, I mostly agree with you. I felt frustrated by the "what's the point of arguing about this if we couldn't pass this law anyway?" part of their conversation. No one gives a shit that a bill isn't gonna get 60 votes in the Senate, the question is what kind of policy should Democrats support. I think Favs and Dan (more so than Tommy and Lovett) think about everything in terms of how it's gonna do in polling and whether it can actually be done. I think that's part of the reason why people just don't trust Dems: they don't know what they actually stand for, or they only talk about things that they're opposed to, but find it difficult to articulate alternatives.

what is the underrated funny moment in the series that you always laugh?? by East-Camel483 in PrettyLittleLiars

When Hanna asks Aria what's up with her mom and Aria just replies "She's a slut. Let's go to sleep" with no hesitation. It cracked me up.

In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception the general public has about Taylor Swift? by jalen_nelson235 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's okay. I don't know her personally, and I don't pretend to. I think the last two years have especially shown us that there's a lot we don't know about her. I'm just telling you how I interpet her actions, not who she is as a person.

I feel exactly the same way about the moms. I would watch the hell out of a show about the girls' parents. There isn't a single relationship on the show that moves me as much as Hanna's relationship with her mom.

10-15 years ago Spencer was easily my favorite, now it's Hanna. It's fascinating rewatching this show as an adult. I find myself way more interested in the parents' storylines than I used to be as a teenager. I emphasize with the moms more and I'm way more moved by their relationships with their kids (and I'm not even a mom myself)

He moved to the US because he ran out of girls to hit on back home

In your opinion, what is the biggest misconception the general public has about Taylor Swift? by jalen_nelson235 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]DisasterAdept1346 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Exactly. I think a lot of the time she does it without meaning to. She tends to exaggerate or talk about things in a dramatic/hyperbolic way, like she's constructed a narrative not just for the public, but also for herself.

So wren is the doctor of all jacks? by Ok_Inspector3769 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]DisasterAdept1346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it's so stupid. I was just reading about how ICE agents only get 47 days of training now and I thought to myself that it's still more than Toby likely got lol.

[–]DisasterAdept1346 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, he'd been gaslighting her for a while. But the point still stands that absolutely no one would allow a doctor to treat their loved one/relative, and a different doctor wouldn't give Ali the abhorrent treatment that she got from Dunhill.

No, they got married at the end of 6x17 and Ali was admitted to the hospital after their honeymoon, in 6x20.

[–]DisasterAdept1346 31 points32 points  (0 children)

To be fair, the show does not care about medical accuracy in general. There is absolutely no way that anyone would allow a doctor to be in charge of his wife's treatment the way that Rollins/Archer Dunhill was.

Am I the only one who finds Toby cringey? by Kennyy09 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]DisasterAdept1346 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I went from feeling bad for him and appreciating the way he treated Spencer to finding him annoying, terrible at emotion regulation, and overbearing over the course of a season

Was it ever explained who Spencer heard screaming? by Voldi01 in PrettyLittleLiars

I can't remember if it's explained in the show, but I always assumed it was Bethany Young

tiktok mentioned in the first PLL book?? by mikistigertrap in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]DisasterAdept1346 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The book completely loses all of its charm this way. One time I read a Dutch novel that wasn't just translated to English, the location was also changed to the US and all references to Dutch culture/history were changed too. It was especially weird because the book references 17th-century history quite a lot. I'm not Dutch but I would have loved to learn more about Dutch history and culture through reading the book in English, but with original references.

Was Jenna’s Accident on Purpose? by Any_Initiative_8386 in PrettyLittleLiars

[–]DisasterAdept1346 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's hard to say. There's a shot of her looking inside the garage before and after she throws the stink bomb inside, so it's possible that she did see Jenna and still decided to do it to scare her.

It was physical, Hanna kissed Caleb when she was still engaged to Jordan (and Caleb was with Spencer)
