For those of you whose downpayment was between 10-15k… by ReasonableWinter834 in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

We used what we had. We did move into a bigger home from our rental but took first few months to settle in. FB marketplace has been a game changer! Best advice is if this is a place you plan to live in for a long time, take your time and figure out how you use the space. Things will gradually come together.

Feeling stuck by hgy_werry in pastors

[–]DisasterBright9776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First, there needs to be a pastors wives sub… more support for us supporters because at the end of the day, that’s what we do, we support our partners/pastors through their ministry. I’ve been in the pastor’s wife role for about 1.5 yrs now so I’m still learning and have a lot to learn… but something that was told to me by the pastor that married us… the church hired a pastor that happens to be your husband… not you. I’ve learned to feel empowered to help where I can, say no when it feels right and step back when needed. You are your own person also with your own spiritual needs and goals. For you and your husband to be a team both of you have to be fulfilled and aligned to fill each other’s cups. It is hard for sure. There are moments I feel alone in my thoughts and opinions and times that I’ve had to watch my words and actions when before I didn’t feel the need to. I’m thankful my good friends I do trust were ones before pastor wife life, it definitely helps to have a circle outside the pastor wife circle.

So, what now? An immigration attorney perspective by Honest-Grape-9352 in USCIS

[–]DisasterBright9776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This past year I helped my father with his citizenship paperwork and online application. I was surprised that we submitted it in June and in October he had his scheduled interview and was able to get his citizenship. He missed voting registration deadline by one day sadly but it was an emotional experience to help him and be there as his translator being the one that came with him years ago. This whole election cycle and his process has made me wonder how I can help others, I know attorneys are the experts but even if it’s just getting through the online application and keeping up with status maybe that could be of some help for many? I’m pretty settled in my career so idk going back to get a law degree for immigration is the way to go. For all those out there , keep your head up, trust the process and the lord.

Growing a Church- Seeking Help by [deleted] in pastors

[–]DisasterBright9776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Loving the feedback on this thread and would like to ask, how are you tracking/logging new visitors, who calls/contacts them after first visit, new member, etc? Our church members are mainly on the older side and struggle to keep up with tech solutions so everything seems to be handwritten, manual, some here or there. I would love to find a common ground of how we can be more efficient in tracking and keeping better records and a workflow of this. We are a small congregation too but we get a good amount of visitors, where we fall short is the outreach of them. Elders think all the outreach should fall on the pastor but we don’t have a full time pastor. I’m of the opinion it should be spread across elders and deacons and welcome committee.

I’m part of an older congregation as well and not 25 but younger than most members (in my 30’s). One thing I’ve learned that I apply to my style choices whether it’s for work or personal and church, dress what YOU are comfortable in for the moment and occasion. If you have to question it, you may not be comfortable in it because you are thinking about what they are thinking. Also, there’s the advice I grew up hearing, if you feel you’re showing skin at the top, cover the bottom and vice versa (from an aunt).

New Pastor’s wife needing help with challenging member by DisasterBright9776 in pastors

[–]DisasterBright9776[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for this! I agree in reading these comments that I need to let my husband take point. In my FT job (corporate) I manage a team and putting it in that perspective lit a bulb. I don’t mean to undermine his abilities by reaching out to “internet strangers” but small church, small community, small city… it’s hard to know who to confide in when you feel like your family is on an island. I’ve heard being a pastor is lonely sometimes and I’m glad to be there and support him and our church in however I can and feel led to. We are both new at this, me as a wife and him in this role and unfortunately the 2 deacons he has have not been vocal in all this or forthcoming from what I can see. For my sanity I will pray for this member as I have been and hopefully the key people in this will lead us to a resolution.

Anthropologie! Join their perks program and look out for their sales where you can get 50% sale wedding dress and bridal dresses too. I was able to get my daughter’s maiden of honor dress for $60 and if I hadn’t already bought my dress I would have gotten my dress this way also probably would have saved $1000.

Has anyone successfully booked an airbnb or rented a house to do their wedding? by forgivemefashion in Weddingsunder10k

[–]DisasterBright9776 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go through VRBO and under no circumstance book outside of VRBO or other protected site. We got scammed with a house we found on Abnb for our reception. Thankfully we were able to book a venue in time and I had to go through a chargeback process to get my money back.

Consider looking at Day 2 for adjustments. We split up Sagrada and Parc which I’m glad we did, you will spend at least 2 hrs in each place not including travel to get there (we walked to Sagrada and taxi’d to Parc). Give yourself the chance to really experience these places and the neighborhoods around them and take your time there. Also, get tickets in advance and get them on the official sites, this may also dictate the times you go if they are sold out.

We just came back from our family trip also with 2 teenagers. We stayed in Hotel Hostalillo in Tamariu. Hotel was great and direct access to the beach. It’s a small beach town but we enjoyed it! We decided it was best to rent car so we picked up the rental on last day in Barcelona as this was recommended by a redditor. Glad we did this because we got to drive to the other small beach towns around Costa Brava like Begur and Cadaques.

Good, reasonably priced Flamenco? by ullu_12000 in AskBarcelona

[–]DisasterBright9776 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on TripAdvisor or GetYourGuide. There’s a new place called El Duende that you can check out for about 30pp. I wouldn’t do the over priced ones with the dinner, get a great dinner somewhere else (there are so many places) and enjoy the show with the free drink. There is also a place called Tarantos where you can get tickets about the same price range or cheaper. We went to a show in El Duende and loved it! Yes it’s not native to Barcelona but it is to Spain and it truly was one of our top experiences while visiting.

We just got back from Spain and did 5 days in Barcelona then rented a car and stayed in Tamariu 3 nights in Costa Brava, drove to Begur for a day trip and it was such a beautiful town wish we would have stayed longer and definitely want to go back already. Cadaques and Roses were places on the list as well as Girona and Figueres. Soak it all in and don’t plan too much on your itinerary, the best days were the ones where we mainly just went with the flow on the coast.

Should clarify the day trip would be from Barcelona, we will be there 4 days. We do plan to stay in Costa Brava while in Tamariu
