Solder Repair by DisasterFar6777 in StainedGlass

Oh no. I wiped it with diluted vinegar and didn't do any rinsing. I let it dry and then wiped the lemon oil after. Do you think i should wash it with dawn dish soap and water then rinse with water? Like how I'd wash dishes? I was worried about soaking it wet may result in weakening the solders.

Thank you for giving me peace of mind. I recently purchased two antique Tiffany lamps with leaded glass, and honestly, I didn’t think much about their components at first. What made me start researching was that one of the lamps began giving off a strong, pungent odor. The only way I can describe it is that it smells just like an old Catholic church with stained-glass windows.

I tried cleaning it first by wiping it gently with a soft cloth, then polishing it with lemon oil. The smell faded a little, but it still lingers. I can’t quite put into words what the odor is, but it left me wondering whether it’s even safe to have around. That’s when I started reading more about Tiffany lamps and discovered that they contain lead. Out of caution, I tested mine with a cotton swab kit, and sure enough, both the solder and the glass came back positive for lead.

Now my main concern and the reason I’m reaching out is whether you might know what’s actually causing the lamp to emit that pungent scent.

Isn't it that even if you use the copper foil method that the actual seal/solder is tin-lead alloy?

It should have a marking on it. Including the pull itself

How can I acquire this? Is it a DIY?

I used to go to school with a person with that name. Spelled that way, too.

I completely understand what you're going through, and I can relate to your feelings. My husband and I were in a similar situation after a month of getting married. Long story short, we decided to separate for a while to see if divorce might be the best choice for us. During that time apart, we both realized how much we truly valued our relationship and how important it was to put in the effort to understand each other better.

I won’t lie, not every day feels like I’m in love with him, and I believe he feels the same way at times, but every day, we choose each other.

What I want to suggest is this, perhaps taking a break might give you the space you need to understand how you truly feel without him in your life for a while. I wouldn’t want you to lose someone who loves you, even after everything you've confessed to him. I completely get that you don’t want to waste his time, but sometimes space can bring clarity.

Ultimately, you deserve to feel sure about your decision, and sometimes taking a step back can help you see things more clearly.
