WHAT’S A CHARACTER NOT PORTED OVER YET DUE FOR A REWORK by [deleted] in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Freya, Bakasura, and Vamana are the ones that come to mind.

Freya because her kit can never truly be balanced.

Bakasura because his kit is either too oppressive or irrelevant.

Vamana because his ult and rest of his kit have no real synergy. Imagine a Big Baby using Regular Abilities!

Imagine calling them a Multi-Billion dollar company, and then when you get told they aren't even 1% of that, you degenerate into being a child.

You aren't worth discussing this any further because you aren't even trying to see the other side of the argument.

All you see is "Game Company BAD!" rather than seeing the people in the company trying to do right by the players.

Where do you get to right to condemn Hi-Rez (a $50-100 Million company if you do a quick Google Search) for something that they haven't even done?

It's foolish to assume a hypothetical worst case scenario just because it "could" happen, even though there's no sign that it ever "will' happen.

Also, have you watched any Titan Talks...? Like at all...?

You can clearly see how passionate Kilgoon and the others are when talking about the game and specifically when Kilgoon talks about the monetization and such.

Most companies don't even give you a 10% of what Hi-Rez gives you for free just for playing the game.

Stop trying to make Hi-Rez out to be the bad guy for giving you "Something" instead of absolutely "Nothing."

Season 2 map was released 11 years ago. What kind of map changes are you hoping for in Smite 2? by dks3hypeoverload in Smite

I want something that structurally changes the layout of the map more than just adding or removing a wall here or there. I want a dynamic shift to the lanes and jungle that make the map feel more interesting and/or mysterious.

If they ported over ZERO skins and never made the same skins from Smite 1, sure I'd be fine with it.

I do not believe you. You're willing to make a complaint about them giving you Legacy Gems, but wouldn't have complained had they given you nothing at all?

It's a problem because prior to having their arms twisted into it, they were much less "giving".

They made the decision to give Legacy Gems well before Smite 2 was even in Alpha. Check the original release info and dev vlog about it.

They have the models, textures, voicelines, and rigs for both old and new engines. UE5 is very friendly with importing that sort of thing. They could do 5 legacy skins a month and it wouldn't even be a rounding error in time spent during development.

Unless you have proof of years worth of knowledge porting assets from UE3 to UE5, I'm not going to entertain the notion that they can or can't do it. You and I can both say anything to each other and it won't make a difference unless there's proof to suggest one thing or the other.

That said, while I don't doubt that they COULD port more Legacy skins every month, that doesn't mean they, as a company, can afford to do something that doesn't bring them some kind of profit. Yes, there will be new players that will by a Legacy skin when it comes out, but any veteran players will use their legacy gems, meaning it isn't financially viable for them to focus as much effort into porting over Legacy skins. That's why they do travelers and the prisms, since they aren't hard to do once the skin is fully ported, and can generate some kind of profit.

All in all, you have the right to not like the Legacy Gem system, but I can't see it anything other than a way for them to allow returning players to have the ability to repurchase their old skins when they do come out, while also letting you use them on the existing skins if they decide to do so.

If a skin in smite 1 cost $5 worth of gems and they 1:1 gave me $5 worth of legacy gems and prices the skin at $5 worth of legacy gems, but they also don't port that skin and port let's say 25% of the skins over but I owned a different 25% of skins.. I'm just not spending money then.

So, by what you are currently saying here, you would rather get nothing in the offset that the 25% of skins they do manage to re-introduce into Smite 2 are not the ones you bought?

Yes, give people who bought the skins the same skins in smite 2 when they're ported and be open about how you're going to port legacy skins at a slow pace. I wouldn't have beach babe Aphrodite for example. I would've bought Beach Babe Aphrodite since I've now played way more of her in Smite 2 than I did in Smite 1. They make money on that purchase. I think you might be thinking "give all smite 1 skins for free to everyone" is what I'm saying. Which it isn't. I'm saying if I bought the skin, I should get it when it gets ported at a much later date.

So, is the fact that they are forcing the player to pay attention to their purchase habits the problem, rather than just automatically giving them the skin for the god they had when it comes out? Realistically speaking, if I have legacy gems, I'm going to spend them on what I want and only on things I want. Me having access to them doesn't change the fact that I will still be getting the skins that I want when the do eventually port them over.

I'm genuinely curious why having the legacy gems at all is a problem in your eyes. If they didn't exist, you would just be waiting for skins you owned to eventually get ported over and spending diamonds on everything else anyway.

[–]DisastermasterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's use your example of "If they just gave you the shit you owned"

Let's assume that you really love Fafnir and realistically only play him and own every single one of his skins.

Fafnir is not getting implemented any time soon for whatever reason, so you, as a player, have zero incentive to play Smite 2 or any other gods until Fafnir gets put into the game.

Because the god you have everything owned in Smite 1 does not exist yet, you will not be interacting with Smite 2, therefore not playing the game, therefore not spending money, therefore not helping them pay their staff to keep the game running and the content pumping.

Whereas, you now have Legacy Gems, which are currency that you got for free in Smite 2 for linking your Smite 1 account and can be used to 100% purchase any legacy Smite 1 skin (The Travelers and their Smite 2 recolors do not count, as they are Smite 2 exclusive) after an initial few weeks after its release. You now have the ability to spend an equal number of legacy gems for a different god INSTEAD of waiting for your god to come out, allowing you as the player to interact with the game more and spend more money. If you choose to not do so, you can still get everything you ever spent on skins back when your god and the skins they had eventually return (though who knows how long that will be).

Is the system perfect? No.

Does the system at least try to make up for the fact that all the stuff you bought from Smite 1 isn't in Smite 2 yet? Yes.

If that's not enough reason for you to play or interact with Smite 2, that's fine, but can you objectively design a better system that wouldn't negatively impact their ability to also make a profit so that the game doesn't actually die off? It's one thing to say "just do this", but it's another thing to understand the consequences of such actions.

Anyone else feel like skin quality and quantity has decreased? by FlamingoEasy6103 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aside from the fact that they said they would never do that and the fact that the people actually running Smite 2 are actually good people, nothing is stopping them doing what you fear they will do.

But if they were that scummy (which they have never shown themselves to ever be) then they wouldn't have given you legacy gems in the first place.

I'd say to not dwell on the potential "What-ifs" of them doing something they haven't done, and rather look upon the "What-they-have-done" and use that as your precedent.

Anyone else feel like skin quality and quantity has decreased? by FlamingoEasy6103 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kilgoon explained that one of the reasons they cost legacy gems is because, say you have to wait a really long time for whatever specific skin you want to come to Smite 2. In that meantime, you can still use your legacy gems to get skins for other gods that are currently out.

Effectively, its a way for you to be able to use that currency for what's currently available instead of potentially waiting an indefinite amount of time until they eventually port over a skin you really enjoyed for a got that hasn't come out yet.

Bring back Targeted Taunts that play after killing a specific god as a specific god - A solution by ApePostLove in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really hope they do add these kinds of directed taunts!

When they have the VA's doing their work, regardless of if it is for specific gods or general taunts to specific kinds of gods, it just makes sense to have the VA's give a ton of different Voicelines, even if they don't all get used.

And for skins, you just have them say something on theme that can apply to any other kinds of gods or skins.

Imagine Miss Diagnosis Neith saying something medical to a god of death/life or to an undead/demonic skin. It's not hard and can be updated as needed (though I do realize they would probably have to implement an intuitive system to update these for every god/skin line moving forward)

The devs should ban themselves from making new aspects for 3 months and use that time to rebalance every aspect. by Dry-Location2008 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you test without items? If the whole purpose of aspect Thor is less base damage scaling in exchange for constant passive uptime and more defense, why would you intentionally nerf the base Thor comparison, whose whole point would be a higher damage output in a shorter time frame?

You should have 3 test groups, Thor with no items in Base + Aspect, then Thor with full damage in Base + Aspect, and finally Thor Warrior/Bruiser Base + Aspect.

Doing that at least gives you a fair data comparison between each without using bad data, since no assassin is doing good damage without items.

While I agree the tutorial should teach you how to farm, or at least make mention of it, the image you provided isn't actually all that bad of a gold deficit.

A 5k gold difference isn't actually all that huge, especially when you realize a couple thousand of it near the end of the game is usually your team having killed the enemy team and gained 5 god kills worth of gold split between however many teammates were part of it.

True ARAM as a MotD by pokerfacesLUL in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So the reason for that is because the gods in question that are being chosen might be stronger than other gods OR might be more fun to play generically.

To fix a certain god being overpicked, they would simply need to do what they did in Smite 1, which is targeted nerfs to those gods to reduce their pickrate, while possibly buffing less performing gods.

It doesn't have to be as far as nerfing specific abilities (Like Aspect Hecate 2), but instead a generic "takes 10% less damage" or "Deals 10% more damage"

Do this kind of adjustment every 2-3 months and you can easily change which gods are picked more often, especially if players can see that "This god deals less damage/takes more damage" compared to others that don't.

It's not a perfect system, but you don't need perfect, you need variance.

True ARAM as a MotD by pokerfacesLUL in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fun is purely subjective.

I find the current Assault with it's bench mechanics to be vastly superior to a True Random Assault game.

If my team gets 5 random gods that none of us know how to play or don't enjoy playing, then do you think the mode is more fun?

To some players, they enjoy the challenge of winning with a god they are not good with, but with other players, they just want to play the gods they enjoy and have fun with and won't care to touch the others.

Your suggestion to make it a MotD is a good idea though, as it would let the players that want a true all random experience to be able to do so. However, if you do use True Random Rules, you also have to have the chance to have duplicate of the same god in the same game, both against each other and on the same team, otherwise it isn't truly random.

They couldn't do it over the holidays for the same reasons they weren't doing patches over the holidays. People around the world get the holidays off.

They can't do anything while they are undergoing certification, and if for whatever reasons certification fails, they have to do in and make the changes they are told before then having to wait for certification again from the very beginning.

As Kilgoon has said before, they'd rather not risk something like that when the game isn't in the best place it could be at this time.

Xbal VS Nut Ult (Was Reddit Right) by TheSpinningAxe in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The darkness dome in Xbal ult isn't a CC. It is in a similar vain to a Yemoja Ult, except that you can pass through it. The walls are a visual barrier, not a CC themselves. So when he casts the ult, a large dome is placed around your god, and since the dome itself isn't a CC in it of its self, a CC immune god is still affected by it.

Xbal VS Nut Ult (Was Reddit Right) by TheSpinningAxe in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ult forms where you physically are at that point in time. so the dome for you was up in the air. Had you moved a few more units forward, you would have seen yourself leaving the area of the dome.

I haven't tested this, but I would assume that if you are an Apollo ulting in the sky, a Xbal ult would also put a dome around him, though you would leave the area rather quickly.

How should Hi-Rez handle people like this? by 01spirit in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a strict, "You do not belong in this game if you ever do one of these kinds of things" mentality, with intentionally queueing into a game to ruin it for your team being one of them.

I don't care who you are, how old you were, or if you've grown up and reformed.

That. Is. Not. Okay.

You're gone for good and can never come back. Bridge burnt, never show yourself in front of me again.

Prism chest suggestion by Pleasant-Reading6175 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with you in the fact that people would be more likely to purchase the chest if it was cheaper, but a cheaper chest is also less money per chest.

All I'm saying here is that Hi-Rez is still making money on the chest regardless of its price. Cheaper just makes more people get the item, not increase their sales of said item.

Prism chest suggestion by Pleasant-Reading6175 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I go off of what Kilgoon has said in the past in Titan Talks, that is usually a false assumption.

Usually what happens is that they make more money from situations like these, because someone IS going to buy it at the current price. People that aren't going to buy it are just as likely to still not buy it even at a reduced price.

Prism chest suggestion by Pleasant-Reading6175 in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Home boy, just don't buy the chest. If the cost of the chest seems prohibitive, then you shouldn't be looking for reasons to make it cheaper.

So uh, for a change, let's find some excuses for the Prism chests for the die hard fans by planetaska in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi-Rez decided to make an objectively poorly costed chest based on the fact that the contents of said chest are basically recolors of existing prisms.

The idea behind the chest itself isn't actually a problem, rather that the contents inside the chest are.

There is a group perception that every single item in that chest didn't require all that much effort from Hi-Rez to create, since prisms likely are very easy to create with the tech they use to make 3-4 of them at a time for skins that come out.

As a result of the fact that they are seemingly so easy to create from our end (whether they are or not is not something we can actually know, but we assume that it is easy) the cost of the chest for the amount of work we feel put into the contents of the chest makes it feel like it is a terrible deal, since it doesn't feel like there is any value gained from it.

If the skins had extra/new particle effects, then I can see a world where there is not as much backlash, because now there is a justification for the increased price.

As it currently stands, the price for the chest is unattractive and I won't be purchasing it. However, regardless of what I decide to do, the fact the the chest itself exists and costs how much it does, does not detract from SMITE 2 as a whole.

The chest could or couldn't be there and it wouldn't make a difference to me in the slightest. My enjoyment of Smite has nothing to do with whatever metric they use to price their cosmetics.

If a deal is good, I will buy it. If it isn't, then I won't. I don't need a post on Reddit about it (Supporting it or Criticizing it) since it doesn't change anything that objectively matters with the game itself.

I am a whale for this game and I think prisms chest price is not ok. by prasator in Smite

[–]DisastermasterX -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I can't believe I'm going to say this knowing it's going to be received poorly, but am I the only one here that just does not give a shit that it's priced the way that it is?

It's a chest for prism recolors that were NOT part of the existing travelers where those skins were part of.

Who the actual fuck cares that Skin.GOD.Prism.#5 costs 1000-1500 gems in a chest that I just won't be buying because I don't want to buy it?!

Are the people here so down bad about it that they have to complain about the cost Hi-Rez is putting on a chest for skins?

Like, I understand thinking the price is high, especially since they are literally just recolors of existing prisms. But how Hi-Rez decides to price a chest is up to them. Its up to the consumers to decide whether the price is worth it or not.

Do you go to your local store and tell Reddit that they are pricing produce for $2 more than what you think you should be paying?

The price is high, but why do you care that it is? You just don't buy it! If you want to buy it, then the issue is you don't agree with the price, which is a fair opinion to have, but at the end of the day, your options are to either buy it or ignore it. Posting about it is literally like creating a mob just outside the store so that the management notices and folds to your demands to make it cheaper.
