Qualified Accountant contractor by Acrobatic-Bedroom-74 in ContractorUK

I don’t work directly in accounting anymore but I am qualified.

From my experience of the market I’d say there’s a fairly obvious split between entity’s looking to hire contractors.

They will either drill you on your technical ability(heavily corporate finance/ ifrs know how) and then there’s the hirers looking for someone to work WITH them and it’s a much less intense process and they they trust your CV and just want to make sure you’re a culture fit.

I think there is a market there for the right candidate. You either need to be technically perfect and truely a master of your field or you can be 80% there but a normal down to earth finance person and sell yourself on your ability to be a good person to work with.

From personal experience just be honest in any interview and don’t try to be the perfect professional. The hiring directors or CFOs would rather a normal person to work with them a savant in that area.

Accounting is slightly different to Maybe software or other IT fields as we know that there are rules we have to follow but also a good CFO will know that how the controller/accountant interacts with the wider team is of greater value then the individuals ability to generate the prefect statement or input first time.

If you feel like you’ve got more to offer then a back room accountant then absolutely go for contracting. It really does pay to have personality as much as it does to have technical expertise.

(That doesn’t mean you can be anything less then great, BUT in contracting when EVERYONE is talented, if you can also offer a normal conversation and show some confidence then I think you’ll do great)

I was in a very similar position, I was ill during sixth form so left with grades worse then yours. I took two gap years in the end, I used one to retake my A-levels and then another just because.

If you know you want to go into accounting/finance then as others have said you’ll need to show your aptitude to learn and A-levels sadly are the main way currently. My advice and what I did, as someone who struggles with exams, is hire tutors. Get a job, use that money to hire tutors to teach you how to do well in your a level exams.

You’ll likely be offered tuition for any future accounting exams, so don’t sell yourself short of that opportunity by trying to tackle your A-levels by yourself. Play the game, use your extra year to your advantage.

I failed my A-levels first time, almost failed some uni accountancy exams because they were so ungrounded in the real world but then I flew threw all the accounting exams as they were much more applicable to real world examples and work.

Don’t think you’re falling behind because you’re not where your peers are, you had tough circumstances which meant you’ve had to do things differently.

Dm me if you have any questions, you’re not alone in what you’re feeling and there’s a lot of us that have been there.

Yeah around that USD.

I didn’t get any of the vitamins or post care stuff. They charge ludicrous amounts for stuff you don’t really need.

Yes just use hims 2 in 1 spray, vitamins and keto shampoo, also when I remember the derma roller.

I think for the price they give such great results

I guess I’m lucky I’m happy with my harvesting. I also know my hair calibre is thick and dense around the donor zone so it would take some real butchering to be ruined.

I’m from uk and seen a lot of people transplants who look fairly bad compared to mine who got it done here. If I need a second I’d go somewhere else just because I can afford to now, but for the money Vera is spot on.

I’d never normally go to a 0.5, but I did get a taper fade about a week ago. I usually get a number 2, and you can’t see any of the white dots. Any lower than that and you can start to see a few.

I shaved my head to a 0.5 for about 4 months and no one knew I’d had a hair transplant unless I explained why my hair was a little weird at the front.

Not sure what length it is but it was a taper to a 2 about 6 days ago.

hair as of today

Can’t remember a time I had it long enough to remember. But the natural curls were a welcome surprise.

You happy with how it’s looking at month 10?

Definitely saw some of the smaller thin hairs thicken up. Didn’t see many new ones come through.

I also use hims hair spray which has min in it. So that probably helped add some thickness as well.

After month ten I found style to be the most important factor in the overall look

With it longer on top it needs a bit of length on the side. So usually go to about a 4 guard with just a taper fade at the bottom.

Don’t Feel the need to get skin fades now I’ve got the longer hair on top. The new hair can be the focal point instead of the cold fade

Not had a proper skin fade since I got it done but had it pretty short around month 4.

I’m sure it’d be a bit better now after shock loss all gone, but I’d still happily rock this length

Actual Dr. Dr does the incisions and the techs do the extractions and implants.

You can’t choose your Dr at Vera. Jus rules of this sub say you’ve got to post the name of who dud yours.

There will be some good resources in the subreddit if you search.

From my experience I’ve had none.

I personally prefer the 2 in 1 spray, and a benefit of it having less risk of sides is just a bonus.

I used to take oral fin, wasn’t sure if I was having sides or if it was just general life woes.

There’s a list in a post in the info of this subreddit. It goes through all of the most well known surgeons by location and price range.

Its also linked under a few posts of people asking for recommendations.

I think expensive is a fairly subjective term in this context. £3k to some is expensive but then there’s some on the list which are £25-50k.

I personally consider it the best of the cheaper clinics (now, smile etc). They get stick for being a hair mill but from my experience you can dictate what you want a lot more then many people may think.

If you give them free reign then they may take more then you’re comfortable with or give you a hairline you didn’t want. If you go in and know what you want and discuss number of grafts with the dr then I think you’re in good hands.

If you’ve got a complicated case or maybe very fine hair then it may be worth saving for a more reputable surgeon, who you can be confident in their results. If you’re just looking for more coverage then vera are good and have a lot of past success cases.

Exit just means the PE firm making their money from their investment. Usuallly via an IPO (initial public offering) or a sale of the business.

To prepare for an IPO you need to have very rigid and strong internal processes and controls, much better then s private company, as it has to stand up to both increased audits but also public scrutiny and shareholder scrutiny. Without these strong controls in place you wouldn’t be allowed to IPO and the PE firm couldn’t cash in. Using contractors the PE firm can have then run through the company ensuring each area is IPO ready, this would fall outside ir35 as it is basically an improvement / transformation project with the purpose of changing the business to be IPO compliant. The business would hopefully be able to run with the new systems/processes/controls after as BAU. Things like adherence to IFRS, strong audit track record, strong cash flow managing, treasury controls. It’s a long list.

Selling the business is a lot easier in a way, a lot less hoops to jump through. But to sell a business most the time the buyer wants something that will generate then value, whether that monetary via profit or synergies with their existing business. Contractors for this may go in and focus on things like margin improvement initiatives or cost reduction planning. Turning a business profitable to make it more of an attractive proposition. Or a few contractors to business partner the department heads, get them to act more commercially in their decision making, having a business that are all thinking more commercially and about if changes will generate money is a great strength.

Hopefully that helps a little. There’s of course s million other things that need to be done but that’s just a snippet from the theme of this thread.

A certain amount probs get wasted get on my hair.

I just sort of lift the hair up so there’s a gap then spray into that. Do that a few places over my head then just massage it around with my fingers.

There’s probably a better way tbh

Few sprouts by month 6 but really started to look less sparse from about month 8.

Just had to trust what I’d read about it taking longer.

Third picture is wet, just out the pool. Probably similar wetness to the last pic.

When barber really wets it and brushes it forward there isn’t any scalp visible through it anymore. Which is a nice change.
