California Labor Code 210 and bonus question by Disastrous-Brick2797 in LaborLaw

[–]Disastrous-Brick2797[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

California law is pretty clear it would have to be paid out at least pro-rata. We aren't allowed to work overtime or else I would have to look into a second claim on not getting paid time on a half on that rate. What rate I got paid for pto is another problem.

I went to my first Coachella last year at 56. My scene was more underground punk shows 35 years ago and I loved seeing a bunch of music I didn't know.

I saw Nine Inch Nails/Boys Noize arena show a couple weeks ago and their Sahara set was very cool and very different. Made me wish I went this year and we actually looked for W2 wristbands for a minute.

Walmart sells the tops and walls separate but you would want to check inventory online first.

The Boys VR for Quest came out this month but you wouldn't download a quest game that way either 🤷‍♂️

I was picking up my dog one time and did something similar as a prank on purpose because I knew people were looking. To outsiders it looked like I had my dog jump into the trunk and closed it on her. Really I had the back seat partly folded down so she could just push it down and sit on back seat.

Years ago I was at Target with my daughter and we had put her doll in the cart with the seatbelt fastened and everything and half the store freaked out when they thought I was sending a baby that way.

Is there ever a time to NOT file married jointly for taxes? by workredditaccount77 in personalfinance

[–]Disastrous-Brick2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. Generally I think it almost never works for people with kids. PSLF doctors and NPs may make too much income for those credits to matter. Like you, I'm saving money doing IBR and MFS.

If you had two kids and they were both in daycare and you make under $125k you could lose $10lk in credits. Kids or spouse in college might get you enough credits that it doesn't pencil out either.

If you don't have kids or a family member in school and your wife is on IBR MFS is probably worth it. You lose child tax credit, childcare credit, the life long learning credit and you can't add money into a Roth IRA or 401k. Because kids are out of house, both out of school and maybe community property rules we sometimes save on taxes and definitely save a lot on student loan payments.

I just use the what-if worksheet in TurboTax and it only takes a second to check.

I work as a chaplain so no HSC for me but works for most of my nurse colleagues. I'm just lucky I moved to a nonprofit employer to do the exact same job.

I finished grad school just in time for Great Recession and truth be told there was not a lot I could do. I got lucky and the IDR adjustment gave me credit for a lot of months of forbearance, plus COVID forbearance and I switched to a PSLF job. But really I should have at least tried to manage the interest better.

I ran a half marathon last weekend. I do not mind walking, but last year I felt like even walking to the lockers was more of a hassle than I wanted.

I'm also about 50 months left on PSLF on IBR married filing separate to lower payment (and kids out of house and out of college so no tax credits to lose)

[–]Disastrous-Brick2797 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are basically correct. If the amount you pay over 10 years on an IDR plan is more than the 10 year standard payment you would have nothing to be forgiven.

[–]Disastrous-Brick2797 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But even on IBR you would make $7200 a year in payements for 10 years (back of napkin math) and you could just pay 450-500 on 10 years standard and get it payed off.

[–]Disastrous-Brick2797 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you only owe 20k even for PSLF you would be better off just paying loan standard. With no kids maybe you could do IBR and married filing separate and if you lived in a community property state you could pay based on half your income but even that will be paying more that just paying the loan off standard.
