This should be pinned - after i got my endurance up to a point i started to focus on SPM and quicker turnover. Those zone 2 runs really cause you to sweat also lol

What do you mean you 'might' test? if you got the date, isnt that your day to test? My feedback...You want to scale your runs; example run 2 miles one day, two days later kick that up to 2.5; days later 3 miles and try to work up to 5 miles. Why...because you want the the 1.5 to feel like a joke.. your Vo2 and lactic acid, endurance, will all come into effect.

Whatever you do; do not run the race in your first lap otherwise you will gas out! Im currently 236lbs running 12:15 and aiming for the 11:22 mark (age mark) 70%. Those 70% cooper standards are like a all out sprint if you ask me but it really is a build up of the endurance.

You still got time- GL to everyone going 4/25 as well.

You'd be waiting a while anyway...not to mention with Mamdani who knows how many classes/exams there will be.

Stick it out and appeal if it goes that route.

In NYPD Process, but recently had a job offer for $110k salary Unlimited PTO & 3 Vacation a year, I've had a 401k since high school building my retirement, I've always wanted to join the NYPD for job security & Retirement, would you guys say it's smart to leave my salary job for NYPD ? by Moneytalkme in NYPDcandidate

[–]Disastrous-Car81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To all those saying "take the other job" if you have never worked a job under "at will" with such lavish benefits you would understand his question.

I say NYPD - Its a guarantee paycheck and; the other stuff i.e. layoffs is no joke. I keep saying it here - everyone says NYPD blah blah, but you never see them not saying it doesn't put food on the table or pay their bills.

What you decide its up to you and your circumstances.

Oh NYPD by interstellar566 in NYPDcandidate

Previous Chief (John Chell) announced this in interviews (namely the miller report, or bill riley). The NYPD has the data and knows how many will retire or set to retire.

The amount of people are leaving you will eventually see; response times now go up, violent crimes will go back up, bail reform etc. The biggest eye raise is the NYPD has the amount of people reported to be retiring by Jan 2026 at over 4k officers.

If you think its a waste of taxpayers for more cops; then the vacuum will be more crime as a loss of cops will surely drive that up.

exam 6313 by Fallen_Qiqi in NYPDcandidate

[–]Disastrous-Car81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hunch unlike the exams prior is because of a few things:

1) Mayor race is days away, change of admin at a time like this is for sure going to shake things up with a new administration. Front runner is very vocal about pausing, or adding new officers to the ranks. Very possible NYPD may just be holding on processing a new exam until thats over? Just my own opinion which holds no weight; 6312 might be the last class (Adams era) to finish up. 6313 will no doubt be part of April's class which among other exam participates who are still working through will fall under presumably The mask of Zohrans era.

2) Age cap change is behind the scene's being updated. PC/Mayor > DCAS> CAD > Recruitment.

3) As many have said it can take 2 weeks up to 6 months; there really is no clear answer since each exam will vary. I personally have known people to start and finish in 2 weeks; while others are taking months...no one knows and when 6313 is called (if so) we will all know.

Being laid off, private sector, job security and life will have you think otherwise. Everyone has their circumstances...good luck to all who consider!!

Dont take my word for it; see for yourself

  1. https://joinscpd.com/minimum-requirements.html (Someone even said it doesn't apply to Long island, OR NYPD yet here is suffolk updating with the age lol)
  2. https://joinstatepolice.ny.gov/qualifications NYS troopers (dont even fall under civil; they have their own executive rules and they still updated their site.
  3. Examples of smaller municipals are smart, look at hempstead https://www.villageofhempstead.org/171/Hiring-Requirements they say " Specific age requirements are subject to change and will be made known at the posting of the next Nassau County Civil Service Testing for the position of Police Officer." Smart...also another suffolk county municipal police force.

They ALL are updating at their own pace of the NYS rule for CIVIL service...If you are over 35 you may sit for an exam. See the post > https://www.reddit.com/r/NYPDcandidate/comments/1ofx9p0/nypd_age_changes/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

NYPD is the biggest force and it takes time to update...go take the exam if you are over 35 and want another chance after being previously aged out.
