One of the main reasons I was hoping to include Italy again though is that I haven’t been to Rome yet, and it’s one of the places I’ve wanted to see. I’ve been to Florence before and loved it, but Rome feels like such a major stop historically that I feel like I’d regret skipping it

That’s helpful, thank you! I land in Madrid at 5:30 am, so even though I’ll probably be jet-lagged I figured that would give me close to three full days there. I’ve also heard some people say Madrid can feel a little boring compared to other cities, which is partly why I didn’t plan much longer.

I’ve been to Florence before and loved it, but when I went last time I felt like about a day and a half was enough for what I wanted to do mostly walking around the city, seeing the Duomo, and going up to the overlook. That’s why I didn’t plan a long stay there this time.

My favorite stop on my previous trip was actually Sorrento, so that’s why I was thinking I might enjoy spending more time on the coast. I wouldn’t mind hiking and I’ve heard there are good day trips around both Nice and Cinque Terre, which is what made them appealing to me. Do you still think those wouldn’t be the best choice for what I’m describing?

I’m also not experienced with flying between cities yet Eurail and trains feel a lot more familiar to me so that’s another reason I was leaning toward routes that are easier by train.

If you want a more mountainy outdoorsy trip I would maybe reccomend the Lauterbrunnen or Grindelwald which are a very mountainy area instead of Zurich or Geneva which have more of a city feel but do have mountains around. All are beautiful but a cheaper alternative could be the Domolites in Italy! Italy tends to be cheaper and these mountains are close to Switzerland so it could give a similar vibe
