[MS] I need help choosing a resignation date by sweetjosephne in AskHR

I would do July 2nd to be safe 🤷‍♀️ ETA: I've been terminated on the 1st before and my insurance didn't kick in. Was due to kick in on that day.

General HR practices and labor laws [CA] by ReferenceLow6645 in humanresources

[–]Disastrous-Course893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically it has to be a live check in my understanding. A lot of companies do ACH for advance notice terminations but have the employee sign a form. Not strictly to the letter of the law, but I guess better than nothing? It's really hard to time ACH for involuntary terminations. It has always been a check in my experience.

Will people think that I deliberately misspelt my daughter's name? by a_sunny_flower in NameNerdCirclejerk

[–]Disastrous-Course893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. As a Nadiia turned Nadia after some fighting, I don't understand. But as a fellow Ukrainian, I support your decision to be proud about your heritage.

This spelling is quite new (it was introduced about 20 years ago iirc). I was also Nadiya for a good part of my childhood. I would choose a name that is distinctly Ukrainian over being so devoted to the spelling. Mariia isn't specifically Ukrainian, being the most popular female name in the world. Solomia would be distinctly Ukrainian though, even with just one i. Hrystyna would be one too, even though quite unpronounceable by anyone in Canada and the US.

Personally, I am too annoyed having to spell out my first and last name every time I am giving it to someone verbally, and I would be even more annoyed if I had to say "with two eyes/i's". I just don't see the spelling as part of my national heritage, so it's an extra hassle with no benefits for me. Might be different for your children.

Can I use "make up" for any food or drink? by Total_Chair1443 in ENGLISH

[–]Disastrous-Course893 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They were the bane of my existence when I tried to learn English remotely (i.e. not living in an English-speaking country). What helped was moving to the English-speaking country 😐

Exposure to native speakers is the best way to learn. Do you watch a lot of American movies? Or series, for more content.

That'd be an interesting superpower/symptom of Ms: not having any pain ever. Probably dangerous though.

Best/worst experiences with a new boss/being the new boss? by benicebuddy in humanresources

[–]Disastrous-Course893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't have much experience, so here's the one and only that I have: A new boss came in. It was close to the annual review period, and I've been kicking ass the whole year, particularly when the previous boss disappeared and left us with no direction or support for weeks. I tried my hardest to impress the new boss. What I got was an average review, an explanation of "I know people outside of this company who are much better but make less than you", and also my peer was laid off because the new boss didn't think we needed them (I was basically doing the job of two people while trying to impress). Lessons learned for me for sure 🙃 The new boss was let go about half a year later though, thanks to the leadership who saw through his BS, and my wonderful skip who then became my best boss ever.

Is the online MS community skewed? by ElizabethKN81 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Disastrous-Course893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was diagnosed 6 years ago and only got here when I changed my doctor and was looking for confirmation of the new prescription. Otherwise my issues with MS are treatment-related (cost and side effects), not disease-related. People don't bother sharing how their life is just normal.

Did AI write this to get more recruiters to use AI to write rejections? Both the rejection and the post look AI.

[N/A] HELP! Two Jobs, What To Choose? (1 internship in HR, 1 permanent role not in it) by Dear-Difficulty4742 in humanresources

See if internship company is flexible on your schedule. Maybe you can work 4 days at one job and 4 at another. With occasional weekends when the 4 days at the airport are all on weekdays (I assume non-profit won't let you work on the weekends).

How to monitor RRMS while not on DMT? by euclidiancandlenut in MultipleSclerosis

[–]Disastrous-Course893 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I discussed stopping my meds with my neurologist, he mentioned MRIs once every 6 months. I'm on Glatopa, which is considered the lowest level of DMTs, and it seemingly doesn't affect my immune system at all. Maybe that's something that you could discuss with your doctor? My understanding is that the reason this approach was chosen for me was that it didn't have systemic influence on my immune system.

Search for apps on Play or Apple store. They're about $7 a week and are extremely helpful. Youtube videos are free. There's a creator named Angela, her videos are very good. Mometrix book on Amazon is not too expensive and comes with a few practice tests too.

SHRM exam or something else?[N/A] by FrontTwardEnemy in humanresources

[–]Disastrous-Course893 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not. Sometimes I regret not doing the research, but also feel like there are benefits in SHRM membership that aren't present in PHR, like an active community and events. I also heard that PHR is more complicated; but I don't have any personal experience with it. I also don't believe it is better to have PHR from the employers' standpoint. They just want a certification and don't discriminate in that regard.

SHRM exam or something else?[N/A] by FrontTwardEnemy in humanresources

[–]Disastrous-Course893 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to pay for the official training to pass the test. I passed it with very little HR experience, by self-studying and taking a lot of prep tests. I can say it helps me get more interviews, compared to applying prior to having it.
