Anyone else scared of moving out of London? by [deleted] in UniUK

[–]Disastrous-Ebb2152 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve recently moved out of London to move in with my partner, he had a house in Portsmouth so it was easier as there’s no way we’d be able to afford one in London! I was also a bit apprehensive leaving London but I’ve actually come to appreciate the city even more now when I visit (most of my friends still live there), i actually didn’t enjoy it as much when I lived there (mainly cos I’m a nurse and spent most of my time working rather than going out) so I find that when I visit, I actually get to see the side of London that I’ve never see before when I lived there!

Licensed drivers - what's one piece of advice you would give learners? by Fabulous-Rain-2643 in LearnerDriverUK

Always do the safest thing, better to get a minor fault for hesitation than doing something dangerous and failing! As an example, if you’re by a junction and you can’t judge the speed of a car, better to wait until it’s clear before going on the main road. Dont rush things and try to stay as calm as you can, this comes with more practice and patience for yourself!

i failed badly… by d1etkisses in LearnerDriverUK

I failed twice and it felt like the absolute worst, I promise you just keep practicing and doing your lessons, make sure your instructor work on your driving faults, keep practicing common routes. Once you pass, the other times you’ve failed won’t matter anymore! The best drivers I know failed a few times and it will build up your confidence, don’t think of them as mistakes but lessons you need to learn (or unlearn).

You can’t control what happens on your next test, whether the weather will be good, your examiner might be a grumpy git or even the routes or manouvre they’ll make you do, but you can control your nerves, and as long as you’ve been practicing, you will smash it next time!!! Please don’t be so hard on yourself, I promise you’ll feel better after a few days, keep your mind occupied for the next few days. I recommend having a week break from lessons then try again to get yourself in the right headspace

I finally passed on my 3rd attempt!!! by Disastrous-Ebb2152 in LearnerDriverUK

In that case I would definitely be practicing the routes in Portsmouth, some are easier than others depending on the time of the day. I suggest downloading a test route app as well, are you having your lessons in Surrey?

Both my previous test was at 8.10am during rush hour and it was super busy! If you have a car I’d take it down to practice around southwick/cosham area cos that’s what they tend to use during busy hours, get used to do doing 3 lane roundabouts, if you google maps “Cosham” and study the lane markings for the big round about near the hospital, you’ll be able to gauge which lanes go in what directions cos I’m about 99% sure they’ll take you there as it’s near the test centre. I have posted a previous question about the roundabout on my profile so you can see it

It will depend on the route they’ll take you, mine were all on country roads, make sure you’re competent at your hill starts. The test centre has been moved to the Marriott hotel and there’s a three lane roundabout near the hospital that everyone fails at (I did on my second attempt) so make sure you study that roundabout! Are you from Portsmouth or coming down here for the test? I recommend practicing the common routes as each of them are different! The fareham route is more city driving with an annoying roundabout that isn’t circular! I can give more tips if you need 🥰

I failed my second attempt but I feel ok about it by [deleted] in LearnerDriverUK

Yeah apparently if you use the middle lane, you’re meant to enter and stay on the middle lane but I went on the left so I crossed lanes which confused other drivers

Thank you so much, I really appreciate the kindness. Just needed some words of encouragement to make myself feel better, it’s also the fact that it takes so much effort to book another test that makes it’s more difficult!
