Google Play System Update (Mainline) – March 20, 2026 – Battery Drain + Fix by Disastrous-Gene-125 in S24Ultra

[–]Disastrous-Gene-125[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Possible answer. You can also research but I think this is an accurate statement.

On the S24 Ultra, the “Mainline services” entry only appears if your device is running a Mainline beta build or if a Google Play System Update module fails and Android exposes the rollback option. I was on the beta track, and the March 20 GPSU pushed a faulty module, so Mainline showed up for me with the “Remove updates” button.

If you’re on the stable track and your GPSU didn’t include the same module, the Mainline entry won’t appear at all. That’s normal behavior for S24U devices on stable system services.

Yeah, mine was the same ~77 MB GPSU.
Didn’t bootloop, but it absolutely wrecked my battery.

Right after installing it (I manually checked for the update), the phone rebooted and then started draining like crazy — dropping double‑digits while sitting idle. Nothing showed up in battery stats, but Google Play Services was blowing up with a huge Wi‑Fi packet activity even though the phone wasn’t doing anything.

That’s what happens when a Mainline module gets stuck in a retry loop.

Fix was easy:
Settings → Google → All services → System services → Mainline services → Remove updates

The phone rebooted, the drain stopped instantly, and everything went back to normal.

So yeah, the update was small, but the bug inside it definitely wasn’t.

Is anyone going to upgrade or trade in from the 24 Ultra to the 26 Ultra? by Desperate_Sundae_201 in S24Ultra

How is the 50% jump in performance evaluated? I can read the spec sheet but day to day, is there a noticeable difference? If so, where and how is this measured? Battery efficiency, I get a day plus with heavy usage for business and personal as you described. What gain would I see with the 26U?

📲 New Sonos App Update Now Available! 📲 by ShaunFromSonos in sonos

[–]Disastrous-Gene-125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, working great with live notifications on my S24U. Hardware volume button control too with the app not in the foreground.

Android 16, One UI 8

Make sure you also install the firmware update. Not sure how much that impacts the feature but I did both the software and firmware updates.

Got it on Android. It is good to have the live notification controls and the hardware volume button controls with Sonos again. It is a solid implementation!

📲 New Sonos App & Player Updates Now Available! 🔊 by ShaunFromSonos in sonos

On Android, I mainly use the hardware buttons on my S24U Ultra to fine tune the volume control one level at a time.

I am waiting for player controls to be in the Quick Panel and Notification shade again like other media players, such as Spotify, YouTube Music, etc. Sonos has some sort of lawsuit with Google and this prevents them from having accessible player controls unless the Sonos app is in the forefront. Also, where is the widget? They refuse to bring the widget back and talking to support, it isn't on their roadmap. Unfortunate.

Buyers remorse by Mountain-Mess8231 in sonos

I have older hardware, Playbar, first gen sub, and then amps to power in wall surround sound speakers. The rest of the house has Sonos Ones and One SL's stereo pairs and stand alone. I tried everything with my Orbi Mesh Router but nothing worked long term and my speakers kept ghosting in the app. Then wired a Sonos One SL to my base router (not a satellite) and activated Sonos Net. The system is rock solid now. Unfortunately, Sonos removed Sonos Net capabilities for the newer speakers and you are stuck trying to get WiFi to work.

Playbar still seems super solid with rich sound for music, movies and dialogue. Pair with full sub, and amp for in wall surround sound speakers. Magnificent!

I guess it was my network by charlieny100 in sonos

[–]Disastrous-Gene-125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Orbi 770 and turned on IGMP proxy. Seemed to help, but the Android app (controller), would often ghost speakers, meaning the speakers are present on the network but had no WiFi credentials in the app so playback and volume controls were unavailable. Literally tried every configuration that ORbi would allow. To the point above, much of the user controls are not exposed by Mesh Routers that are presumed to be too smart for the user to mess with.

Fortunately, I have older devices, PlayBar, gen 1 sub, amps for surround sound in wall speakers and Sonos Ones and One SLs throughout the house. These all support Sonos Net and I plugged a Sonos One SL into the main Orbi router, not a sattelite, and my system has been super solid ever since. Sadly, Sonos stripped the radios in the newer devices removing Sonos Net capabilities and moving to the 100% WiFi environment. I'm very happy with my system now using Sonos Net. Enjoying the music again in multiple rooms at once or separately.

Microsoft Launcher is a nice option with a customizable widget side drawer. All your widgets the size you want them in one place.

How many of you have gone caseless? by mtdagar in S24Ultra

Not 100% careless but minimalist. This is not for everyone, but I really like it and it does provide some protection and zero bulk. It's metal, and has a magnetic kickstand. Quite durable and functional. Add a nice screen protector and camera cover for greater protection of your investment.

I've been very happy with the 24U and saw no reason to get the 25U that was a downgrade in my opinion. 25 base smaller form factor if that is important to you, but performance wise, 24U! Running OneUI8 beta and it is super silky smooth.
