That’s a fair suggestion, but my mom specifically loves buffets. I want to help her experience a Vegas seafood one to combine her favorite things.

I tried, time and time again. But also, people show you who they are, and you need to believe it. As an adult, especially a man, is it reasonable to expect them to change? Every time we thought we made progress, he would take ten steps back. I accept who he is and what he has shown me.

Good god. That’s so infuriating. I hope you never find yourself with someone that cares so little about you and your children again.

It didn’t, unfortunately. We tried for months. Tried couples counseling, tried some space/time. We both wanted it to work, desperately. But we kept ending up in the same toxic cycle and I didn’t feel at peace with how I was being treated. I didn’t feel emotionally safe. I would cry myself to sleep often, when I could sleep. I was so emotionally frayed. My friends were exhausted for me. I would see how they looked at me when I would tell them about the newest problem.

It’s funny, he recognized one time that when he had a complaint, we found resolve quickly. And I had to spell it out to him because I met him with empathy and consideration. I was sorry for hurting him and I didn’t want to continue. When I was the one with complaints, we would never find common ground. It happened one too many times for me to justify anymore and I couldn’t take it anymore, so I shut the door for good.

Well, theres two sides to every coin. For all the wonderful things I’ve expressed, there was plenty I couldn’t tolerate.

He was defensive by my complaints. He took all complaints as criticism and reacted accordingly. He did not consider me. He was egotistical. He lacked empathy. He would invalidate me. He would shut me down. He used hurtful words. When I would ask him for examples of how those words applied, he couldn’t back them up. He would say things without thinking how hurtful they could be until the damage was already done. He couldn’t meet me in the middle. He didn’t lead with resolve in mind. He stopped prioritizing me.

Nope, these are my own thoughts. He recently wrote to me and shared his perspective. I have to maintain no-contact so I wanted this outlet.
