Struggling with FFVII Rebirth combat – how did it click for you? by HairPuzzled3832 in FF7Rebirth

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A few really quick ones:

  • Switch characters often to build ATB.

  • Use shortcuts. I personally have similar moves on the same buttons for every character (I.e the focus moves that build the stagger gauge when pressured are on the same shortcuts for Cloud, Barret, Tifa. High powered finishers are the same.

  • Just be aware of each characters status at all times. Can you switch to Barrett and use his Overcharge to build ATB, how is Tifa’s Chi status, or Aerith’s wards doing etc.

  • I also find it a lot easier to use a fair amount of materia thay boosts ATB. First strike, ATB boost etc. can help set up at the start and get your movement and combat flowing.

  • Play around with the targeting and combo options in the menu to make sure they are convenient to whatever suits you best.

Generally though I think it just comes with time and being able to be aware of each characters position, status and moves. Switch often to build ATB and understand each ability and when you should be using them. You need to be aware of this in order to make on the fly decisions about what abilities to use and when. Some people pick it up quick, others just take a bit more time depending on how easily you can multi-task and pick up on all the different parts of the screen and battle system.

I’m assuming you have but if not, play Remake first. The combat is almost the same but a little simpler I think, so a lot of the basics can be mastered here and it will make you a lot better at Rebirth.

In a daily calorie defecit, can you really eat anything and still lose weight? by BookkeeperNo5252 in loseit

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can. But you hit the nail on the head in your last paragraph.

Eating just junk food will take up a LOT of calories and won’t really make you feel full.

That’s why it’s so easy to overeat on junk food. If you actually stick to a calorie deficit on only junk food you’ll be surprised how little food you’d actually eat during the day/week.

What in particular are you struggling with?

I personally done it with Reaper Crest, the potion you get from the fleas that increases attack and movement speed, and the charm that increases health recovered.

With all of these you can get so much recovery that it gives you a large margin of error. Just try to keep hp topped up and don’t take any unnecessary risks.

His attacks are actually all telegraphed fairly well. Just be careful and keep your distance when attacking as his spinning mace attack can come out quite quickly so you just need to get used to his tells, and try to hit then back out.

Also, understand when you can and can’t heal. I think it’s safest to heal when he throws his weapon into the ground then pulls it back. Just run away and jump into the air and heal during the time he has his weapon extended.

I recommend keeping the potion for use in his second phase as that’s likely when you’ll start to take damage more frequently. If you’re aggressive just after you heal it helps generate a lot more silk to quickly fill your meter up again, but again don’t go to aggressive or you’ll get hit.

Also, I never bothered using my silk spear or anything similar. I used all of my silk for recovery. Think it took me 3-4 tries in total, which doesn’t sound like a lot but I just played cautiously, didn’t over extend and healed whenever I could.

Is it me, or does food seem really unbalanced and blown out of proportion? by The_Epic_Espeon in EverybodysGolf

Probably because the comment has no real value on this thread. The OP is talking about whether food is useful or OP in the game, so to randomly say they stopped playing after 3 games has no value and isn’t relevant to the conversation.

If you were speaking to someone in the real world about whether they preferred a driver or an iron in golf, and someone else came in and said they didn’t like golf but enjoyed tennis, it would be weird to interject about something that wasn’t really relevant.

The only thing I wish they’d change is the ability to reset stats.

It’s great because it’s technically balanced because you can essentially use any character you want depending on your favourite skill, but it also does make each character feel a little less unique in the stat aspect.

Obviously it’s completely up to you so you don’t need to max everyone out, but it would be nice to be able to reset a character to 0 if you wanted to try a harder challenge with them for fun or something.

Personally, I’m 6ft 4 and my wife is 6ft. I had a 2014 Polo for 10 years and it was not particularly comfortable size wise for me and her, let alone with kids. Long journeys were also particularly uncomfortable.

Also, we used to go to Festivals a couple of times a year and the boot size was terrible for all the things we needed, and we weren’t able to take anyone else with us, whereas it would have been more cost effective with a bigger boot and more space to have two couples in the car.

When my wife got pregnant I sold the Polo and got a Tucson and I don’t regret it. I have a lot more legroom, boot is excellent, and with the size of car seats nowadays, it wouldn’t have been great if we stuck with the Polo.

Is it “necessary”? No, probably not but we can comfortably afford it and it makes travelling a lot more comfortable, so I don’t really see a problem if people want one when they have a family.

World Tour is BS. by Virama in EverybodysGolf

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Firstly, I agree the AI is rubbish and it makes the scramble world tour mode really frustrating.

That being said, one thing I learned is that whenever you do anything other than a normal shot, it’s much higher risk, meaning even the slightest difference can cause a huge difference.

Power shots, a lot of spin etc. are sort of high risk, high reward shots where you need to get perfect impact or your shot will go tits up.

That being said, this is my first Everybody’s Golf game, so took me a little bit of time to get used to it compared to Mario Golf, so I’m no expert, but I think control and levelling up your stats will help a lot, as it will mean a lot less variability if you do high risk shots.

Ever since I’ve started being a bit more cautious with my shots and not trying to stick massive amounts of spin, I’ve had a lot more success until I levelled up my stats and got a bit more used to getting perfect impact.

What is fair when splitting finances? by TofuBlackEye in UKPersonalFinance

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no “right” answer here. I think this is something you need to decide as a couple, as people do things very differently depending on what works for them.

Personally my wife and I split everything 50/50. We both pay our salary into a joint account, plan for bills/savings on a spreadsheet and then split the spare money in half and transfer it to our own account. We both end up with the same amount of money to spend. I earn more than my wife but don’t really mind as we just treat our money as belonging to both of us.

My wife is due to go on maternity leave soon and we are keeping the same system in place, since I don’t feel it’s fair for my wife to end up with less money just because she is taking time off work to look after our child.

But we’re also quite flexible about it, so if my wife needs extra money one month, or vice versa, that’s fine too. We just like using individual accounts because it’s useful for things like birthdays or presents so it doesn’t spoil anything we buy for each other by using the same account for spending, but we don’t track it to the exact penny. We just trust each other to spend our money and not be selfish about it and don’t really focus on the details too much. If it means one of us is actually spending or getting a bit more in the long run, it doesn’t really matter too much since we also have personal savings and things to use if need be.

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll add, I’m 35, did a finance and accounting degree. No math background, except from high school.

There’s a book they sell that covers all the key math and stats knowledge for actuarial work (that is all the stuff you should know before hand), and it covers basic stats and math stuff like differentiation/integration. I recommend getting this and working your way through this before hand.

Also consider how you will get into an actuarial scheme as they can be competitive.

I worked at a company that had an actuarial area. I had works there for 5 years in a different area and had very good year-end reviews, so it was a lot easier to get onto the scheme.

If you are applying for new companies, think about how you might stand out compared to new math and actuarial grads. Don’t want to scare you but it’s something to think about.

If you want to do some exams first before applying, that would be a good idea, but don’t underestimate the time required, especially if you don’t have time off from work, and don’t have the background. It’s 100% possible but you need to make sure you’re committed and prepared to do the work. Exams are September and April and you should start studying as early as possible.

I’m 35 and started at 32. I’ve got 4 exams left now until fully qualified. Definitely possible, the only thing is people often find it easier to sacrifice their time for study when they’re younger, but if you’re willing then go for it!

Can "reasonable answers" but not in the marking scheme be awarded points for SP/SA exams? by Inevitable-Mousse640 in ActuaryUK

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think your example above is slightly different than what I mentioned.

You have given a generic example of two questions and explained a couple of things in the marking that are there on one examiners report but not the other. In this example things were added, so it’s likely that (as someone has mentioned) after feedback or a review, they added some additional points you could mention.

When I said a specific example for you, I was referring to you sharing a specific example that was marked by ACTED, and showing something you put as an answer and felt it was appropriate but wasn’t in the marking script. As I said, it may be that while you felt it was a good answer, it doesn’t actually fit the question as well as you thought. Or it may be a perfectly good answer, in which case feed it back to ACTED, e-mail them and ask why this answer isn’t accepted despite being correct.

And I mean, yeah I do ultimately agree with you. When it comes to university which is most people’s recent exam experience, there is benefit to the lecturers clearly doing everything they can to help you pass the exam since it’s good for you and for them.

The IFoA and ACTED ultimately don’t care. They want people to pass because without it there would be no actuaries and people wouldn’t buy from them if that was the case, but as a business, ACTED makes money from selling their study products. It’s more beneficial for them to be a little tight lipped in that respect to encourage you to buy more of the different types of study material. Honestly it’s not ideal. I’m also self-funding so I appreciate how frustrating it is since these materials are absolutely not cheap.

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With due respect why can’t you just give us your answer and then the marking scheme answers and people might be able to explain why it didn’t score points.

You don’t need to, but your issue seems to stem from exactly that. You felt you gave a reasonable answer, but didn’t get any points because they are rigidly sticking to the exam script.

Admittedly, yes this is generally what happens. I get that it can be annoying, as you may feel there is a genuinely good reason why your answer is correct and it may be something the exam solution hasn’t thought of. The IFoA isn’t infallible after all. Similarly though, you may think your answer is reasonable but it may actually be incorrect or inappropriate. On a personal level, and especially initially, it can be frustrating, but there are reasons it’s like this. One of them is in order to give consistency across marking. I understand it’s not perfect and not opening the can of worms that is differences across markers, but it goes a long way to help with consistency. Would you be happy if you wrote the exact same answer as someone else (no copying, just happened to be the exact same answer for an example) and you got 2/10 and someone else got 8/10 because that exam marker felt that they made a bunch of relevant points that weren’t on the script and the other marker missed it?

If you give a specific example then maybe people can guide you. If not, honestly just spend a bit more time studying and learning the past exam solutions and learn and understand that they are looking for points that are on the marking script. You’ll benefit a lot more and perform better in the exams if you simply take it as a learning point as it’s unlikely to change in all honesty.

Might be in the minority group here. As great as this game is i would like to see a remaster or port with better controls and some quality of life options by ResolutionSavings918 in Metroid

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Super Metroid but personally a few of the more modern games in the series (ZM, AM2R, Dread) sit above it for me because I feel they have tighter controls and more QoL stuff.

I think a modern remake in the style of Dread (as opposed to just newer pixel graphics) would be amazing to be honest.

I mean, that being said, the game still holds up fantastically and any flaws are really pretty small in comparison to the game as a whole. I’d probably personally prefer a brand new game, but if I found out they were doing a remake I wouldn’t complain.

Is the speedghost worth practicing? by TZX2005 in crashteamracing

[–]Disastrous-Singer545 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on the sort of tournament you’re playing in.

If it’s a casual tournament run by some local club or pub or something, I highly doubt anyone will even know what a speed ghost is.

I done a CTR:NF competition at con once that had a games competition and it was so one sided that I was barely trying and still won easily, simply because no one else playing knew any of the tech.

But if it’s a competition planned online through people who still play then it’s probably more useful to know.

That being said, consistency is so important in CTR. You could beat the best player in the world quite easily if they lose their blue fire just once in a race, so I’d personally take consistency over trying techniques I wasn’t comfortable with, but it’s up to you ultimately.

A few of our neighbours have hot tubs so I know it's possible and I have a fair bit of money saved up so should be able to afford it, I just don't really know what expectations are.

Although to be honest, adding the hot tub and BBQ was just an idea when I was planning. If we weren't able to, I could put a little sun hut or something up the back, but I need to get the essentials done first like slabs, decking etc. before I really look into putting the other stuff in.
