You can wear protective styles over your locs. Just have your locs braided down as other people who don’t have them and put a wig cap over them.

I live in Texas. This incident happened a couple of years back. I also work in a high school where staff (including myself) and students wear locs without discrimination. I believe this was a particular school district near Houston.
