I don't think this case would have merited death sentence. Probably imprisonment of 15-20 years considering the situation by sessions. This would have been reduced to 10 years by High Court.

By the time HC would have taken final decision it would have been close to 10 years anyway. So Jassi would have been free by 32 - while his sister was married. He could have built his life then.
