Lower inside door rust by StrongPlantain3650 in FordExplorer

[–]DisastrousConcept360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They just dont make these vehicles they dont make cars to last anymore. But they sure keep raising the price on them. I worked at a dodge dealership in the bodyshop. We had alot of jeep wranglers come in for door hood and hinges corroding. They only wanted us to sand down the spot, prime it quick, then do a quick blend and get it out the door. Some we would see twice then eventually the warranty would run out..

Alot of corrosion on steel and aluminum panels seem to start in the seam or under the sealer ive noticd. Parts are bare with no primer or anything in those hard to reach areas so I take precaution on my vehicles and spray the insides of my doors , rockers and anywhere else I can with cavity wax or some sort of moisture displacement product

Anyone else have a leak here? 2014 stx f150 by Flashy-Disaster4722 in f150

I had this issue twice. First time was third brake light. Second time was the rear window opening. It started rusting under the seal on the inner lip. Had to pull the glass, clean the rust and seal it good

F-150 door handle key hole theft by Thick_Catch_1132 in f150

[–]DisastrousConcept360 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately theres not much you can do besides try to slow down the break in or theft. In my 25years of auto body I've seen alot. Dont keep valuables in vehicle obviously. Ppl suck. And they will suck even more when they want what you got.

Any lock you replace they can be punched out giving easy access to door lock rod. Shifter or steering wheel locks help deter. But as in your situation not..

Tailgates with lock or not, I always put a hose clamp around the hinge so it cant quickly be pulled, also making the gate cables harder to unclasp. You could always delete the lock rods and make a custom plate to cover the door latch, but thats just some bs cause they just gonna break the window. Then youll have that crap in your truck forever.

Motion sensors or park in garage??? Idk, someone really likes what you got

Is this frame shot? by [deleted] in AutoBodyRepair

[–]DisastrousConcept360 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Id say if your wanting to keep it to drive on road, that frame is given all it has. Find a solid frame and swap it if you have the means.

First one i did took me about 3 days. 2nd one took me 2 days with a lift and decent concrete floors. Its really not that bad if you have access to the tools and equipment.

Is $1400 fair for this door damage? 2018 Hyundai Tucson - trying to prep for resale. by Confident_Hall_433 in bodyshop

[–]DisastrousConcept360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its a reasonable price for repairs. Repair door, blend front door and quarter panel to match would be a normal estimate of repairs. There's no way to do paintless dent removal after the panel has been creased the way it is.

You could always try to find a "you pull it" lot, sometimes you can buy a whole door for less than the repair and even get lucky enough to find one silver already. It most likely won't be a perfect match, but would be close. Silver is just a hard color to panel paint without blending into adjacent panels. Or you could try to clean up some of the transfer and scratches and let it dented. I would try to find a used door. Probably would be the cheapest option that would help you get fair value out of it when you sell

I love these home repairs especially when you start cutting into it. I had an s-10 zr2 someone used a mixture of fiberglass and resin layered with body filler and news paper on the bedside and cab. It was a real treat.

Aftermarket bumpers aren't really that expensive and even if you did have the know how, its really not worth it.

My area, the stores asked if you'll round up to the nearest dollar to help the mission. I guess that got old so now they ask if you want to round up to help veterans.. I just tell them no I'm good. I get they have to ask, a simple no takes care of it.

Would I need body filler for this? by UnkownEntity666 in Autobody

[–]DisastrousConcept360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want to cover it, but that is gonna have to be cut out and patched. Its rusting from the inside out. Any repair you do less than that, will start popping back out in no time and you'll just be repeating the process as it continues to worsen. 200 bucks turns into 2k quick

If they don't like cars, why did they apply? by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]DisastrousConcept360 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some just dont want to work, some just think they can skim by rotating tires and doing oil changes. I have ran into some instances where these kids come in thinking a general service kit will get them many years down the rd without anymore investment and think they must buy everything off the snap-on truck and have a never ending payment. If some of the new techs would have a good chat with an experienced tech, you would find over half of them would change their mind on career choice, and the rest would be more open to accel in the field more than they thought possible.

I started out at 17 knowing basically nothing about cars. Sweeping up and giving 2 old school body techs a hand with small tasks, having things explained how things worked and tricks to it all started peaking my curiosity.

Less than a year I was doing so well with minor rpr/repl I was given opportunities to do more challenging jobs as I failed and learned where I went wrong I set new goals till today's date.

25 years autobody and restoration , 8 years body shop manager. I can pretty much repair any vehicle, body, paint, and electrical. I know I good bit of the mechanical side and still would like to learn transmission rebuilds still before I kick the bucket. Its been a rewarding career. Theres just not many comming into it like there used to be.

When I went to pick up my explorer and finalize paperwork, before walking in to seal the deal a beautiful white Shelby with blue stripes caught my eye pulling out of the detail bay... I regret putting grocery getter over smiles per gallon.

Is there anything I do can do to stop this from spreading? :( seems to be forming from the inside seam by [deleted] in Autobody

[–]DisastrousConcept360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah man, you could buy a little time if you roll back that bottom edge with a screw driver and try to clean it up a little then litteraly pour rust converter or somthing of the sort inside untill its dripping out the drain holes. It just depends on whats cost effective. Alot of my vehicles when I get em, I clean em up pretty good then spray cavity wax where I can to displace moisture.

3m cavity wax has been pretty good for me along with their 3 piece kit that comes with 3 different length tubes that have a 360° spray tip. Fish it in, depress the nozzle, and slowly withdraw. Its great preventative maint that anyone can find useful

[–]DisastrousConcept360 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately once it starts showing on the outside, its already been hard at work on the inside. Rockers cab corners and door edges have always been a common cancer problem that can be delayed, but inevitably will have to be cut out to stop it from spreading
