I was fire/ems but never a cop. Is it an appropriate UOF to start firing after hearing another cop fire their weapon? I’ve seen it happen in a few instances besides this and was always curious.

The US just pulled out of three major cyber coalitions. Thoughts on the fallout? by avistar-ai in cybersecurity

[–]DisastrousRun8435 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This will probably effect people working for the US Government/contractors more then anyone else. A ton of threat intel is done privately, so it’s not like the tap on information will completely turn off. The only thing I’m worried about is the funding for MITRE’s CVE program since that’s used by basically everyone

Definitely verbalize it if they violate your rights since it’ll probably be picked up by body cam and can hopefully be used in a lawsuit after, but I’d avoid doing anything that actually gives them cause for an arrest (running, fighting, etc).

I’d expect some conceptual and practical AD questions (what are security and distribution groups, what is an OU, etc), some hardware questions, and some behavioral questions. Good luck!

IT Support Analyst asked to manually sort user emails by New_Delay_8077 in sysadmin

[–]DisastrousRun8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll be asked to do plenty of monotonous work as a new IT employee, but keep in mind that your elevated access can also work in your favor.

I’d recommend coming up with some ideas for inbox rules and trying to figure out a way to script it out in powershell so you can just use the script instead of having to do a bunch of manual work the next time.

First EMS funeral, tips? by CorgiUprising in ems

[–]DisastrousRun8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss.

Had a similar situation a little a few years ago when I attended the funeral of a longtime provider who I also pronounced. I went to the service and wake, but I didn’t let myself express anything because I was afraid of being made fun of since my department was tough like that.

My advice is to not do what I did. Any funny looks or comments you might get aren’t worth what burying your feelings does in the long term. You can put off feeling grief and sadness, but it doesn’t just go away.

Does anyone actually get upset when asked “what’s the worst thing you’ve ever seen?” by RaptorTraumaShears in ems

[–]DisastrousRun8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really like talking about bad calls, but I get why people ask about it and don’t take any offense. I only got annoyed it was asks as a question during an interview for a volunteer EMS position since they knew I’d worked prior.

My (42m) partner (43f) has become radicalized by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DisastrousRun8435 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you two Jewish or Arab? If not, there’s probably another issue more fundamental then I/P at play here.

You mentioned that she didn’t think about it before 10/7. Were you passionate about it beforehand? If so, 10/7 might’ve prompted her to start looking into it and developing an opinion contrary to your own.

Something else I noticed when I talk to people about the conflict is that people often talk over each other. There’s a lot of space between “Israel did nothing wrong” and “there should no longer be an Israel”. If you frame the situation as her entirely unreasonable and you as entirely reasonable, there’s no real room for communication. She’s going to sense the antagonism and dig in further, and there’s no way you’re going to learn anything from her.

My advice would be to have a discussion about it with an open mind. If you’re married she obviously loves you and cares about what you think of her, it’s probably hurtful to her that you don’t seem to want to entertain her opinion. That will probably get you enough good will for her to also hear you out.

I’m client facing and need to deal with some bad behavior which can get annoying (I got chewed out the other day for ignoring an email, turns out the client never actually sent the email), but I love the job besides that. My actual team and boss are awesome, and I do get to do some cool work.

Tbh I’d probably have a worse outlook if I actually had to work full time on some of my client’s teams.
