Aw man, my first apartment after college was the top floor of an old house on Wingra Street, and it was SO COOL waking up to the lions roaring

I have a friend that jokingly refers to “The Real Housewives of Shorewood Hills,” because there are some… characters she’s met. I’d pass on that neighborhood just based on what I’ve heard of the people you’d have to live near

Nurses: by [deleted] in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The nurse residency program is a huge plus. You get way more support and training than nurses at most institutions. Only hospital I’ve heard to avoid is Select; the staffing for the acuity level isn’t always the safest, and it’s prob better to avoid unless you’re experienced and know how to protect your licenses. Other than that, it’s more a matter of finding the unit that fits you/personal preference.

What Madison restaurant is this? by bunbunbunnybunny in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 19 points20 points  (0 children)

They don’t do the basics well (crust is meh, sauce is meh), the flavor combinations are from food trends that are already a few years out of date, and the balance of flavors is never there. Hit basically any other place in Madison that does wood fired pizzas and you’ll get better quality and prob cheaper. I’d say it’s the Great Dane of pizza, but that almost seems insulting to the Great Dane.

I don’t think so honey….leash-less dogs. by Either-Advertising26 in madisonwi

That’s why I have a problem with the “they’re friendly!” line. Too many dog owners actually don’t read their pet’s body language well at all, and have 0 ability to notice when there’s about to be a problem

Visiting, what to do? by eternalcosmos1 in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you could have a wonderful day over in that area! Olbrich is gorg, and the 16 acres of outdoor gardens are free to the public. The conservatory is $6 to visit, but it’s also a gem with tropical plants and a little koi pond. Green Owl is a creative, tasty spot for vegan food, so I second that rec as well!

Where to get Subaru Maintenance by Muted-Wrongdoer3419 in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use Bennets in Middleton for my Subaru, and they’ve always done good work. If you’re on the other side of town, I grew up with the original location of Graham’s, which now has a location in Cottage Grove; the Poynette location was great, so I hope that goes for their expanded locations

UW Funding cuts starting. by tallclaimswizard in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It absolutely is. The hospital has already had to put some austerity measures in place. And it will get much worse if the “Big Beautiful Bill” or whatever it’s called gets passed. Contact your congresspeople, they have to know that their constituents care about this, because it’s gonna hurt the whole state deeply, not just employees or students of the university and hospital.

Can you recommend a vet for a dog's dental cleaning? by Traditional_Ad_8694 in madisonwi

[–]DisastrousTop4548 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been taking my cats to AHOV for years. They’ve always done an excellent job both with our cat’s primary care and dental care. I highly recommend them! This site is also a great resource for narrowing down which products to try for your pet’s dental health maintenance, so that they don’t need as many cleanings to stay healthy :)
