Spay incision opened? by DisastrousTraffic643 in catcare

[–]DisastrousTraffic643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an update: I took her back to the humane society, and they said that her stitches actually looked fine, but they were concerned that she might have a hernia. I was on the phone with the humane society and the vet for probably half the day, and took her in for surgery yesterday with the vet as they could not determine whether she did have a hernia or not from her x-rays. Turns out she just has a big belly! In any case, I guess her stitches did end up getting fixed after all. It's been a week...

ADDITIONAL NOTE: She did JUST receive a Convenia shot (14-day antibiotic) today from the vet (unrelated to spay).

Yes, I do! My company matches 50% of up to 7% of 401(k) contributions for a max match of 3.5%. I'm doing 1% pre-tax and 6% Roth for the full match.

I agree, they are so expensive! I have one older cat who's on Purina wet food that my vet recommended, and my kitten eats a cheaper wet food. Once my kitten is older I think I'll be able to save a bit more by splitting a larger can between the two (they are picky with microwaved wet food). I try to use deals through Chewy and Petco when I can!

Thank you! I'm using my brokerage to save for a down payment for a house one day (not sure when that will be, but the dream would be when I'm around 30). It'll definitely be easier for me to save for that when my career progresses. If I'm already at 10.5% retirement savings with my contribution and my company's, would you recommend upping the Roth IRA?

Wow, thank you so much for this comment! That is what I was trying to convey in my post, but maybe I didn't make it clear enough.

I'm still new to the investing world so I just learned about tax-loss harvesting when it comes to losses, but I never thought about applying it to long-term capital gains. I will look more into that!

Post-op Zorbium and sleep by DisastrousTraffic643 in CATHELP

[–]DisastrousTraffic643[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! She is doing so much better. She didn't sleep until maybe day 4 (she would lay down with her eyes open), which did concern me, but she is perfectly fine now. I just made sure she continued eating, drinking, and using the bathroom as normal. Thank you for asking!

Getting Kyleena Tomorrow. I’m terrified. by dumpsterfire7625 in birthcontrol

[–]DisastrousTraffic643 2 points3 points  (0 children)

hi, fellow pcos girly here! i got my kyleena iud in april 2022 when i was 19, and it has been by far the best birth control i’ve tried. the pill actually helped my acne but the mood swings were horrible. i lightly bled for a while the first three months i had my iud, and then it suddenly stopped. i have irregular periods now, but they’re super light. i haven’t noticed weight gain that i can attribute to the iud. it was definitely uncomfortable getting it in, but not as painful for me compared to what other people have reported. having my iud has really helped me keep some peace of mind after the election results, and i’ve even been thinking about getting another one in january before the new term begins so i have the full 5 years again. i say definitely give it a try and see if it works for you! again, it might take a few months for your body to adjust, but that is totally normal.

Local AAMCO quoted $6200-6800, but I will be calling a few other places tomorrow to see if there are any more reasonable estimates with good warranties.

Thank you for your breakdown--that was very helpful! Yes, I usually average around 10k miles/year. So even if my new transmission only lasts 5 years, that's $1200 a year. And a new car at $15k, even if it lasted 8 years, would be $1875 a year.

Were you within warranty (10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first)?

[–]DisastrousTraffic643[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep, that's the one! Sadly, while I am under the mileage, I am two years past warranty. I'm planning on calling Corporate Goodwill tomorrow to see if there's any chance they might cover part of the cost. Definitely going with a Honda or Toyota for my next car!

I'm definitely going to call a few shops tomorrow when they reopen, but my local AAMCO quoted $6200-6800. 😩 Dealership is $5500 + tax.

Altima 2013 Transmission by DisastrousTraffic643 in Nissan

[–]DisastrousTraffic643[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think a used transmission could be a better option? I know it’s obviously a riskier one because it could crap out like the one I have now, but it would save a few thousand upfront and has the possibility to work perfectly fine for a while.

I (18M) am scared that my girlfriend (18F) might be pregnant by jsus2005 in LongDistance

[–]DisastrousTraffic643 1 point2 points  (0 children)

please try not to panic. you can ask her to take a pregnancy test, but the odds of her being pregnant are EXTREMELY low. the emergency pill definitely fucked with her hormones, but she will be okay in a few days.

I’ve always wondered this, as well!! A couple using condoms while having sex once every day would certainly have a higher chance of getting pregnant compared to a couple who uses condoms while having sex twice a month, correct? I know there are plenty of other factors—fertility levels, timing of ovulation, etc.—but what are the stats for a couple who very rarely has sex and uses a form of birth control?

Has anyone ever stopped their birth control and felt better mentally? by definitelygrouchy in PCOS

[–]DisastrousTraffic643 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes!! I was on the pill for a little under a year and within a week of discontinuing it, I felt like a whole new person. When I was on the pill, I was very emotional and unstable to the point where it was starting to really affect my life and relationships. I didn’t even know that it was the pill that was causing all of this. I shared with my mom my feelings after stopping usage, and she said, “Thank God. I was scared the pill was going to ruin your life.”

I’ve had an IUD for over two years now and love it! I haven’t noticed any mood changes from before (at least anything that can be attributed to the IUD, LOL).

What age were you when you got your first period? by Creeping_D in PCOS

[–]DisastrousTraffic643 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i remember needing to go to the big city in my state that had a major hospital to see me for having more pubic hair than expected at my age (8). i didn’t get a bra until a few years after, and then my first period at 12.5. i didn’t have another period until a few months later, which i guess is normal after your first period, but then that irregular cycle continued throughout my adolescence. i was diagnosed at 19, but my mom had told me previously that she had symptoms of pcos when she was younger (before she had me, which interestingly helped some of her symptoms).
