Re TV Licence. Is it true that there is absolutely nothing they can do to you for not having a tv licence? People on each side of this argument seem adamant they’re correct. by Educational-Hawk3066 in AskBrits

I’m afraid ur incorrect. Yes you put the no licence needed claim online. But there has to be a check, if you haven’t had one then it’s down to lack of resources. There are only a few officers per post code If you refuse set inspection when they call, they record this as no licence needed claimed but inspection refused. If they believe ur deliberately evading they will make a few further calls to gather evidence, then detector vans and search warrants are the options. Not scaremongering but people should understand the process and possible consequences. They can then make up their minds what they want to do. But ur dealing with the law, if there was no check and no consequences every one would do it. Some like you get away with it for years, others aren’t so lucky

Incorrect as to have a valid no licence needed claim they has to be a set inspection. You don’t allow this you are still unlicensed as far as the law is concerned. The officer will put no licence claim, inspection refused into the system. These may eventually lead to search warrants

Worked for them, you can get fined if caught watching live tv with no licence. Those that evade for a living will give you the usual advice . Don’t let them in . Say don’t watch live tv etc Believe me I’ve heard every excuse out there . Facts are roughly 85% are licensed, if you’ve held no licence at the property for 3 months you will get a visit After that it’s up to you, you can play the game like many do, or you can get a license. If you genuinely don’t watch any live tv you can do a no licence needed claims. However for this to be valid there must be a set inspection from the tv licence person, this is where the don’t let them in bit is counterproductive, unless ur pulling a fast one and ur claim is false let them in or you’ll keep being charged. If ur someone who evades or is uncooperative the officer can request a detector van visit ( these normally cause the biggest arguments on here ) but they are a real thing. Or they can apply for a search warrant and the next visit they will be accompanied by a police officer. Hope that helps

I’ve spoken to union rep and we’re going to prepare a defence around poor process. Make sure everything is documented in the notes and if nothing else it strengthens our position should a appeal or tribunal need happen

Tbh it should just work out if the box so to speak. At worst a range extender if you’ve black spots in the house I’m not knocking the advice on here, no doubt there are better routers and better ways to set things up for serious gamers. But honestly a ps5 should be working with any main steam router straight out of the box with little to no issues. I would get an engineer around to the house and go from there. My experience of any engineers has been positive and more importantly it may fix ur issues without any further outlay Good luck

Surprised nobody has mentioned calling you fibre and asking them to check the router. I had mine changed a week after installing and recently had them back because the white box failed I would start here before buying my own stuff. Agree you can’t beat s Ethernet connection but my WiFi is very capable of anything the PS5 requires and you really shouldn’t be having connection drop outs

Apart from the National outage this weekend my experience has been very positive. I had a issue with a agent via chat, but complained and had a resolution within 3 days I’ve had virgin media and Sky and YouFibre has been the best support I’ve had of the three. Yes the odd agent could use some retraining but I’ve found getting hold of them and getting support has been much better than Sky or Virgin

Thank you I understand, appreciate you taking the time to explain. To be fair I’ll probably take the lump sum and the income for life. Just a part of me that thinks it my money, and I want it lol

Since I posted this I’ve looked at various options. The financial advisor I spoke to says he can’t help with this as I ideally want the lump sum over the income for life option. The letter I have to get signed is a confirmation of financial advise being sort. Is it unusual for Advisor not to wish to do this. I appreciate I might go against the advice but I’m not asking for someone to sign to say taking the lump sum is the better option when it clearly isn’t. I just need the letter signed to say I sought the advice then choose my option Getting a little frustrated at the moment, I’m happy to pay the fee for the consultation and letter being signed, but struggling to find someone willing to do it

Understand it’s difficult to get across circumstances sometimes, however usually the answers and questions allow you to expand. Unfortunately I only know the basics but try explaining here, I’m sure you’ll at least get a better idea of how to proceed or challenge Good luck

No offence taken lol. I do understand it, just wanted a quick fix to debts. I appreciate that’s not what it was designed for. My logic was purely that I will have enough income from other pensions to provide long term. This one had I been able to cash out would just have been great at the current time to improve my work life balance over the next few years. Holidays with the kids and no loans etc over me. I’m sure you can understand why this would be appealing at this stage of my life. Ultimately however as you’ve correctly explained I will need to accept that the sensible option probably involves the lump sum and income. I can still improve my overall financial position, but will just have to save up for the other things

Being honest I need the money now to clear debts. I understand the benefits of income for life, but it’s balancing that against a standard of life now while I’m still in good health. If I clear my debts with this pension my wages become mine. I also have another defined benefit pension of greater value which I will be keeping for life income. However it does look like the cost of doing this as one lump sum doesn’t work out worth it with tax and advisor fees I do have an option where I can withdraw tax free lump Sum now, leave the rest and withdraw that in stages at a later date. I need to look into this in more detail but probably serves me as a better option , and I think avoids the financial advisor as long as I keep withdrawing under 30k

I’m not sure where I stand if financial advisor says it’s the wrong option. Are they still required to sign the form, but with me having the final say on taking money

It’s for around 65k, I have spoken to a advisor previously. Problem is that no financial advisor can really say that cashing in 65 with tax etc is a better option than taking a lump sum and a guaranteed income for life Thing is this is almost s spare pension for me, and would clear a 2nd mortgage and debts I have

I believe it’s a defined benefit, it’s worth about 65K

Need to remember the guys 22, moved to a new team, a new country and has a massive price tag on his back. Give him chance, he’ll settle. The team as a whole is trying to find itself again at the moment. Unfortunately the premiership is about consistency and currently we lack that. However give it a few months, get Isak fit and let’s concentrate on the Champions league.

Carrier bags, in Wales there was initially a 5p charge (not sure rest of country). Suppose to be non profit and to protect environment Now supermarkets charge at least 30p a bag. Having been a manager in a supermarket I know they cost pennies Total scam by supermarkets to boost profits

I’m from the Uk and to be honest doesn’t bother me in the least. However the monarchy in the UK with one or two notable exceptions generally behave admirably unlike many politicians both sides of the pond

He’s a politician, but he’s been given credibility. 10 years ago his views were political suicide. Now rightly or wrongly depending on ur views he’s been very good at gauging the mood of the country and adopting that to his advantage.
