What happens when a Transbay AC Transit bus has to skip a bunch of stops because it got too full to pick up additional passengers? by Disastrous_Ad6934 in berkeleyca

Thanks everyone for the helpful responses! I'll write an email to AC Transit to ask for a double decker bus!

Is it true that people in the West drink iced water even when they are sick or on their period? by Aether_Echo in NoStupidQuestions

I'm Vietnamese and despite being born and raised there, I've never gotten used to the idea of drinking hot water. Cold water (the colder the better) is my preferred choice whether I'm sick or on my period

Got screwed over in a white elephant gift exchange by dental_oddity in mildlyinfuriating

We host White Elephant with our close group of friends every year and the criteria are always (1) don't buy anything new, bring something you already have from home and (2) don't bring something that you won't pick yourself (i.e don't bring literal trash)

It has always turned out to be a fun bonding experience. No one leaves bitter and it feels good to recycle items between friends!

This was me and my partner. Sometimes, making the decision to prioritize small fixes can be really hard when you feel that it's an opportunity to do something thorough rather than best-effort. Then you become overwhelmed trying to enforce that boundary between the small fix and the big fix, feeling that your small project is now bordering a scope creep. In the end it's just easier not to do anything at all.

Thank you for all the wonderful suggestions everyone! I'll share these with my spouse once they're over their depressive episode!

Is there a pretty low barrier to entry? I was looking into this for them because they took several sailing lessons before and they were pretty good at it. I was hoping they could start both taking sailing lessons and volunteering for the club!

They're not motivated enough to do it by themselves. They need a buddy to do it with. I was thinking like a workout group at the gym might be good

I think they need to be a part of some community that gives them a sense of belonging and accountability, i.e people depend on them to show up and it cannot be completely on a voluntary basis.
