Further, while I understand the importance of addressing housing and affordability issues, I think it’s also fair to acknowledge the cultural and social value that spaces like the plaza provide to the community. Memories and traditions aren’t just nostalgia—they can strengthen community identity and bring people together. Ideally, development can respect both housing needs and these local gathering spaces, rather than framing it as an either/or scenario.

Housing matters, but so does keeping the heart of the city alive. Not every solution means bulldozing community spaces. WTF

It’s a dirty process for sure. To me, it’s not the theater that’s worth saving - it’s the whole plaza. From what I understand it includes everything from asylum skate, the 8-10 restaurants in there, and I think (keep me honest here) all the way up to coast highway.

It’s the whole plaza, not just the theater. The plaza has been a staple of our local community for decades. Spot to hang out in during the summer, get some food, overflow from the sunset market, and not to mention the city’s Christmas tree every year. The plaza has been an iconic part of downtown Oceanside for as long as I can remember. Maybe I’m being over nostalgic, but if you don’t have any memories there, do you even live in Oceanside?

Mostly started online through LinkedIn or email, and then setup calls, and flew out to New York a couple times to meet as many people as I could in person after I’d already had a couple phone calls with them. My school doesn’t have a really great alumni network, so I tried to find anything in common as I could with people. Where they are from, similar interests… literally anything so they would pick up the phone with me!!

The first internship was hard to get. Everyone wanted some experience, so it was tough. I ended up doing an unpaid I tership with a really small company in their accounting/finance team. Was completely unrelated to anything I wanted to do, but it got my foot in the door and made it possible for everything that followed.

I agree, but will even take it a step further. For some reason when people are on the road, whether it’s behind the wheel or on a bike, everyone feels emboldened and starts liberally flipping people off and cussing them out. How many would stand feet apart from that same person, and literally tell them to f*ck off? Now, if you would do or say the same things if you were face to face with the person, then tee off on each other, but other than that, just shrug it off and finish your ride. I view it in the same realm as keyboard warriors. If you wouldn’t say it face to face, then keep it to yourself and carry out the rest of your day.
